Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Secretly Married, Newspaper Proposal
A year had passed since Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan became eternally bonded mates and started living together in the Watchtower apartment, but to the outside world they were still Lois Lane and Clark Kent the best Daily Planet reporting team still dancing around the truth of how they felt. Though it did seem like they were getting closer, maybe even couple-ish but no one knew the truth except maybe those who knew who they were.
It was like any other day in the Daily Planet bullpen but something was different. Something about this day was making Clark Kent very nervous. And even though he was normally a simple and shy guy sometimes clumsy today he was figuratively jumping out of his skin and no one knew why. Nothing Superman related had gone on today so everyone was just trying to finish up their regular articles for the paper’s deadline.
Something was going on but no one knew what so they just sat back to wait and watch. They knew it had something to do with Clark and Lois because whenever Lois was busy they saw Clark watching her and whenever she spoke to him he would become very clumsy.

Finally about 9 PM Clark said he was going out to get a breather and headed for the Daily Planet’s roof. Not half an hour later Lois followed saying she was going to check on him and everyone in the bullpen being reporters and curious about what was up with Clark followed.
Up on the roof as Lois opened the door and shut it behind her Clark’s quiet voice floated to her, “You know they’ll be spying on us in a few seconds.”
“Yes, I do. They’re all reporters and photographers. It’s in their nature to be curious,” Lois replied walking up to stand beside Clark.
“Do you know what today is,” Clark asking watching the people on the street walking about their day.
“Yes, its April…” Lois started to say but was interrupted by Clark’s serious tone, “I know the date, Lois! Do you remember what that day means to us? Not Lois and Clark, but Chloe and Clark?” he finished softly looking at her.
“Yes, of course I do, Clark.” Chloe replied smiling softly back at Clark and reaching to hold his hand which laid on the roof’s raised edge.
“What is it Chlo?”
“The day we met. The day you took me up to your ‘fortress of solitude’ on your farm. The day I told you about my favorite book being lost during the movie and you used your super speed though at the time I didn’t know that and got it for me. I know exactly what today is for us, Clark. Why?”
“Because I got you this,” Clark held out that same book to her.
She smiled softly at the book and then smirked up at Clark saying, “Well, thanks but I didn’t get you anything.”
Just then Clark made a slightly nod to their coworkers trying to act like they weren’t spying but were and replied, “You will if you open the book to page 150.”
“150, okay?” And Chloe as Lois to the crowd opened the book to that page and found in an already open velvet box a diamond engagement ring that sparkled in the lights from the windows and the Planet symbol behind and around them.
“Oh My…” Lois gasped holding the book in shaking hands.
Clark stepped closer and took the box out the book as he took the book out of Lois’ hands and knelt asking with his heart in his eyes, “Lois Lane will you do me the honor of marrying me?”
Lois looked at the ring one more time and then to Clark’s face and smiled with tears in her eyes and nodded and quietly replied breathlessly, “Yes. Yes I will marry you!”
Clark quickly rose and placed the ring on her finger before picking her up and kissing her in front of all their coworkers that were now cheering through open windows and coming through the roof’s door to congratulate them. As they stood and laughed with their coworkers Perry White came out of the crowd and congratulated them and told them to take the rest of the night and tomorrow off. They had already turned in their articles and they deserved to celebrate this wonderful occasion by themselves. So they smiled, hugged Perry thanking him and then went to get their things and left to celebrate.
~Song ends~
Little did their coworkers know that all they did was go home, have a late supper with Brian and Justin and Clark’s mom, and then while they were getting ready for bed Clark was called away on Super hero business and didn’t get back until late the next day. So they only got a few meals together and one night that was full of sleep and comforting because Clark couldn’t save one family out of a whole village instead of what their coworkers were thinking would happen.
