ch 35
Grissom had to spend three days and nights in the hospital. Sara and the kids visited him every day. Sara was excited that she could finally collect her husband from the hospital and bring him home.
“Gil. I talked this situation over with Ecklie while you were in here.”
“You did, what did he have to say?”
“Well because you became infected while you were working the lab feels responsible.”
“Oh, really? What do they plan on doing?”
“You are being temporarily transferred to CSI Headquarters in Miami. The climate is better there, not as dry. You will be working for Horatio Cane.”
“Who is coming here, to Vegas?”
“Somebody by the name of Ryan Wolfe. He volunteered.”
“Does Amy know?”
“Not really.”
“When do we leave?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Great.”
They walked out of the waiting room and headed home. His portable oxygen tank was in tow. Gil jumped in the passenger side and reclined the seat. Inside the truck he asked, “Who wants to go to Disney World? I hear they have amazing roller coasters.” He was trying to look at the bright side of things.
“Disney World?”
“Yes, we are going to Miami for a while until dad gets better.” Sara was trying to sugar-coat it for the benefit of Amy.
“Wow. Will I get to meet Mickey Mouse?”
“I’m sure we can arrange that.”
“Gil has a couple of weeks off so we can explore Disney before he reports for work.”
“Yeah!” Amy squealed.
This should be an adventure. Sara thought to herself as she stroked her swollen belly. I can’t wait for you to come out. She inwardly thought to the baby. I am getting excited to meet you.
“How much stuff do I need, Mom?” Amy asked.
“A lot. We aren’t sure how long we are going to be there, it depends on Dad.” I pray he gets better and it is not a permanent residence.
“I think I need a bigger suitcase.” Amy stated.
“We will get you one. We need one for Sam anyhow.”
Sara pulled into the driveway and helped Grissom out of the truck. She carried his bags and he rolled the oxygen behind him. Amy got Sam out of the car along with her stuff.
“Gil. You need to lay down and rest, please.”
“Alright, I’m tired anyway.” Too tired to protest.
Sara helped Grissom into the bed and went to check on the kids. She noticed the answering machine blinking. She checked the messages.
“Mr and Mrs Grissom.” The voice chimed. “This is Dr. Whiteman. I tended to Mr Grissom in the hospital. I have a few concerns, could you please call me back as soon as you get this message.”
Sara picked up the phone and called the hospital.
“This is Sara Grissom; I am looking for Dr Whiteman.”
“One moment please.” The nasal voice said. “I’ll transfer you.”
“Dr. Whiteman.”
“Good day, Doctor. This is Sara Grissom.”
“Ah, Mrs Grissom I have a few concerns.”
“Regarding what?”
“Travel. His health has been compromised.”
“So we have to go to Miami but we can’t travel? Am I getting this right?”
“Well, sort of.”
“Doctor, I am confused.”
“He needs to take a private jet in order to travel.”
“What? We can’t afford that.”
“You have to find a way, it is important for your husband.”
“SO why can’t we use a commercial airline?”
“Too many contaminants. It is a breeding ground for germs; it would only make him worse.”
“Doctor, is he going to be okay?”
“Yes as long as he follows my orders.”
“Thank you doctor.”
Sara hung up and put her head in her hands.
Amy had been eavesdropping and rushed to her mother’s conversation.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Is it dad?”
“No, it is alright.”
Amy didn’t believe her. She was genuinely worried about Grissom.
“I need to call Catherine.
