Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Two years later found Lois and Clark rushing to the site of a multiple car crash with possible causalities. When they arrived there was a huge crowd. They were stopped right at the police tape; Clark couldn’t even find a way to get away so he could use his alter ego Superman to help. Lois was trying to find out all she could about the people in the crash when she heard one of the EMT’s on the scene say a woman was bleeding heavily from her abdomen and she was three months pregnant. They needed to get another ambulance in to help her soon or her and the baby would be gone.
Seconds later Chloe aka Lois and Clark heard over the police radios that a young boy was suddenly by the woman, but he wasn’t talking to anyone so they didn’t know if he was a part of the crash scene or a spectator that got through. They both saw cops and EMT’s heading over to the woman and the boy who couldn’t be seen at the moment because of the wreckage around the area. Clark and Chloe did work it so they could get a straight shot of the scene if the two men in their sightline would move even an inch and as they thought this the two men did move. What they saw scared Chloe to the bone, it wasn’t the woman on the ground bleeding from a huge wound in her stomach though that was scary it was the boy beside the woman.
She could hear the officers asking the boy, “Young man, is this your mom? Young man you need to move so we can do our jobs whether this lady is your mother or not, ok?”
Then the boy’s voice came to her ears as if he had yelled but he hadn’t. He was just talking in a confident and determined tone of voice, “I can help her. Now let me!”
Just then the boy’s eyes caught Chloe’s and sudden recognition came to him. He slowly gained a very determined look in his eyes that she had seen in herself when she looked in the mirror and nodded at her and looked at the woman laying on the ground in front of him. She shook her head in the negative knowing what Brian had planned and so not wanting him to do it. It was her dream come true but not the good kind of dream more like nightmare come true. He was going to use his power to save the woman and possibly her child and possibly lose his life in the process. Brian begged her with his eyes and then came the words from her dream mouthed right at her, “Please let me do this Mommy. I can help her. I can be a hero like both of my Daddies and Superman…Please Mommy I can do it. I have too.”
Chloe could see her son had made up his mind so she nodded her head in the affirmative and let tears of fear roll down her face as she watched her son touch the woman’s blood soaked stomach and begin to glow and pulse gold light as he healed the woman and took the wound on himself; the woman’s wound healed and disappeared a matching wound appeared in Brian’s stomach.
Finally all the collected power he had been using burst out of him in a flash of golden light that blinded everyone in the surrounding area. When it passed the woman was awaking slowly and Brian lay on the ground unconscious and bleeding already turning a grayish-blue all over. Everyone was amazed and shocked. One pair of EMT’s quickly moved into action checking over the woman and getting her in an ambulance to rush her to the hospital to get checked out by a doctor while another EMT pair rushed to help stabilize Brian and get him to the hospital. Clark quickly pulled a shocked Chloe away and changed into his Superman costume, picked her up and flew her to the hospital.
Where she met the EMT crew coming in and told them to call his doctors Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Dovey. The hospital wondered why Lois Lane wanted these two doctors but when Superman asked them to call the doctors for Ms. Lane they just did as they were asked, trusting that Superman knew more than they did about this situation than they did. That he could handle whatever might come up.
Six months later at 11:30 PM found Brian awaking to find his best friend and crush Justin asleep sitting in a chair by his bedside with his head beside their clasped hands on the hospital bed. Brian let himself get straightened out on where he was and why before he tried moving his head which was pounding slightly behind his eyes; let alone his body which felt like a collection of two ton weights to look around the room he was in. Looking around he found his mom laying asleep in Mr. Kent’s arms who himself was asleep with his head bent back on the top of a small couch that Brian guessed pulled out to make a bed for someone to sleep on.
“Hey Buddy, nice to see you awake. You know you had us all really worried this was the last time. That we’d have to figure out what to say at your eulogy. ” the tired but calm voice of Brian’s dad said from the other side of the bed. Brian slowly turned his head to see his dad sitting back in another chair by his bedside.
“Sorry, dad. I didn’t mean to worry you all. I just…”
“Wanted to help that woman and her unborn child. I know son…and I’m proud of you. We all are. We were just scared. You’re a great kid Brian and if you make it…you’ll be a great man.” Oliver said finally arising from the chair.
Oliver stood by Brian’s beside, brushing Brian’s bangs from his forehead to kiss it and said softly, “I love you Buddy. I’m going to get some coffee for everyone able to drink it or live off it in your mother’s case. I’ll be right back okay.”
“Okay, Dad.”
When Oliver left the room and the door shut with a soft click Justin finally began to stir from his sleep. As he got his bearings he heard a voice that had been haunting his dreams for the past six months say, “Hey Blue Eyes, you know you could have asked for a cot or something. You didn’t have to sit in that uncomfortable chair by my side the whole time. Where’s Grandma Kent?” but the voice was also accompanied by a soft hand touching the top of his head.
“She went home to check on the farm. She’ll be back in the morning. Brian, your back?!” Justin’s relieved and sleep heavy voice said to the air between the two.
“Yeah, I’m back.”
“Where’d you go?”
“Nowhere as special as right here and right now. You okay?”
“I should be asking you that, Mr. Has To Save Everybody,” Justin said softly with tears rolling from his eyes but a smile on his face.
“No that’s Superman. I just wanted to save that woman and her baby. Speaking of them…how are they?”
“The woman was sent home a few weeks after you two came in. She and the baby were fine, nothing wrong. She had her little girl a week ago. They went home a few days ago, both perfectly healthy,” said a calm voice from the couch.
Both boys turned to face the voice and found a quite awake Clark Kent looking at them.
“Really they’re both okay?”
“Yes, thanks to you Brian. You know I’m very proud of you and so is your mother. Superman as well…”
“He could have done more than I did and he wouldn’t be in a hospital bed either,” Brian said getting a little down.
“I wouldn’t say that Brian. You did an amazing thing. Superman risks his life everyday for the world and the things he does are great and amazing but he can walk away from most anything. What you did six months ago risking your life knowing it could be the last time you ever saw this world that’s even more amazing than anything Superman could ever do and he knows it and is so inspired by you for it,” Clark said slowly getting up from the couch as to not wake Chloe and walking to stand at the end of the bed voice gaining more conviction and strength as his words went on.
“Thanks…Superman,” Brian replied with a tired smirk and twinkle in his eye.
“What?! How did you?”
“I’m the son of Lois Lane and the Green Arrow you take a guess how Mr. Kent,” he said as he began to drift in and out of sleep.
“I deserved that one, didn’t I Justin?”
“Yes, Sir you did. You should know Brian’s almost as smart as Ms. Lane is.
“Speaking of my mom when are you and your alter ego going to ask her to marry you? I’m getting tired of seeing the way the two of you dance around each other. You both love each other so why do you keep going around in circles?” Brian asked yawning at the end.
“Brian if and when, if being the biggest of the two, we get married is up to us not you.”
“I know that. I was just asking when you were going to the invulnerable skin and ask my mom to your wife,” Brian yawned before he motioned for Justin to join him up on the bed as he scooted over a bit to fit Justin on it.
“Yeah Mr. Kent, your Superman. You can face an exploding space shuttle but you can’t face the lady you love. That’s kind of pathetic.”
“Yeah really,” Brian replied as the boys fell asleep again.
For a while Clark just watched everyone sleep, but then Oliver walked in with a cup holder full of coffee. He set it down on the table beside the couch and looked to Clark saying, “He fell asleep. Good he needs it.”
“He was awake?! Why didn’t you guys wake me?! Should I tell the doctors he was up for a little bit?” a stressed, tired and relieved Chloe asked from the couch slowly sitting up with a look of beginning anger..
“We’ll tell them when they come to check up on him in a few hours. Go back to sleep Lois. I’ll watch over him.”
“We both will Ms. Lane.”
“Okay, you two I get it you want me to rest because I haven’t been. I’ll rest but you wake me up the second he wakes up again okay.”
“Okay, Lois” Clark stated softly.
“Yes, Ma’am” Oliver saluted with a smirk.
As Chloe fell back to sleep laying fully stretched out on the couch.
A month later found Brian finally going home with strict instructions to not use his powers to that extent ever again or he wouldn’t be rejoining the living the next time, to come back for every scheduled physical therapy session and to keep up his home therapy practices or he would be in serious trouble with his doctors. Chloe and Oliver were given their instructions for each household and the schedule and how much of each medication Brian needed.
