ch 30
CHAPTER 30
“Amy, are you ready for the movie?”
“What mom?”
“Where were you just now?”
“I was remembering.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“I don’t know. I’m scared dad is sick. I don’t want him to die.”
“Amy. He will be fine.” She tried to assure the child.
“My mom’s name was Marion. At least my other mom. Dad’s name was Joe. Dad started sleeping a lot. I was only seven years old, but I knew something was wrong. It really worried me. Mom kept telling me everything was alright.”
Oh no, that’s what I keep telling her too. NO wonder she is concerned.
“Dad went to the doctor. They put us in a room and we had to wait, I knew it wasn’t good. Mom kept pacing. She was nervous too. Mom was so scared to lose dad. He was all she had.”
I know the feeling…
“Mom had to tell me that dad was sick. Something inside me already knew. They gave dad treatments but they only seemed to make him worse. Mom came into the family room crying and I knew it wasn’t good.”
“I’m so sorry sweetie.” Sara spoke softly.
“They couldn’t do anymore for him. His cancer was too far-gone. He died soon after.”
“I’m so sorry. What happened to your mom?”
“She went crazy. She kept talking about all the pretty flowers, can’t you see them? She babbled incoherently over and over. Then she said she didn’t have a daughter, that she was only ten years old.”
Sara held her hand.
“They took mom away and called family services. I had no one else, dad had died so they sent me to foster care and here I am.”
“I’m so glad we found you.”
“Me too. So is dad alright.”
“I don’t know. If it gets worse I will have to do something.
