ch 30

Sara had more than a few problems supporting the shivering, soaking wet Grissom. Opening the door to the cabin proved to be difficult as well. He was nearly dead weight because his feet weren't wiling to cooperate.

“We're here, Grissom,” Sara told him, lowering him down in front of the fireplace.

“Burr. I....I....F...r...” He was shivering so much he was stuttering.

“I know, baby. I'm getting the fire going, “Sara promised. She cursed under her breath when the matches didn't want to cooperate.

“Cccccoollldd. Sso cccc...” He stammered.

Sara finally got a blaze going. She quickly fed the fire and then returned to remove Grissom's wet clothes. The soaking wet articles were only proving to make him colder. He was trying to help her disrobe himself unsuccessfully. Sara finally took his hands away. “I'll get it, Griss.” She peeled off his shirt, his pants, socks and his underwear. He was too cold to argue. He shuddered under her touch. Finally, Sara got him completely undressed. She wrapped him in as many blankets as she could find before undressing herself.

“I'm so cold.” He whined. Sara took him in her arms. Grissom pulled out of her embrace and suddenly jumped up and ran to the bedroom. He returned with the blankets off of the bed and proceeded to wrap Sara in them. She tried to talk and he shushed her. “No, Sara I have to help you, you are freezing. You need to get warm.”

“Grissom, I'm fine.” She tried to assure him.

“NO Sara, I have to help you. You need to get warm, you are freezing.” He wrapped the blankets around her tightly.

It was at that moment that Sara realized what the doctor had said about Grissom. He had hypothermia and he was suffering from delirium. The doctor told her to just play along until it goes away, once his body temperature gets back to normal he would as well. “Will you stay with me and keep me warm?”

“Of course. Scoot over and let me in. I'll keep you warm sweetie.” Sara lay down. Grissom crawled under all the blankets and huddled her tight to his chest. “How is that? Are you warmer?”

“Better.”

“Good.” He murmured into her hair.

Sara muffled a sigh as she kept telling herself she had to play along with Grissom's delirium if she was going to get him to lay still. He began to gently kiss her neck. “That feels good too.”

His hand traced her body. “What about this?” What are you doing? She’s Sick!

“Mhm.” Sara's body shivered, triggering Grissom off again.

“Sara, you're shivering.” He said getting up. “Let me find more blankets.”

“I'm warmer with you next to me,” Sara said quickly.

“There has got to be more blankets. Let me look.” He proceeded to look for more blankets. He returned with two more blankets.

“Where did you find them? I thought we had all the blankets out already.” Sara took his hand and helped him sit down again. “I want you to be with me.” Figuring she was probably right he crawled back under the blankets with her. Sara ran her hand over his ice-cold forehead. “Let me cuddle next to you.”

“Ok.” He said. “It should warm you up.” Sara shifted her weight so she was on top of him and pressed flush against him. “Ummm.” He howled.

“Like that, huh?”

“Umm. Nice.” He could feel her warm breath on his skin and it made him shiver.

Sara closed her eyes as she felt his heartbeat against her chest. His lips found hers and he shared a passionate kiss.

“Mmm...” Sara moaned appreciatively. She was then presented with a problem. The fire was starting to die out and she had just gotten Grissom settled.

“Sara. I hate to do this to you, but I really need to run to the bathroom.” He was a bit embarrassed.

“Sure.”

“I'll be right back. Don't move.” He got up and ran off to the bathroom.

Sara followed him at a discreet distance after stirring the fire. She also started some hot cocoa.

Grissom began to run the water and stepped out into the kitchen. “I figured a bath would warm you up.”

“Why don't we take one together?” She asked hoping he would agree.

His brow perked up. “Sounds good to me.”

“Come on.” Sara took his hand. The bathtub was not as big as it could have been, but it was adequate for two people to be in. Sara kept her voice in a tone she hoped was normal as she studied the tub. “Well…this is cozy.”

“Yes. Very warm. That's good for you.” He was grinning.

“Us.” She added.

“Yes, I guess us.” He smirked. Sara pressed a kiss to his back as she leaned him against her and began splashing water on his chest. “Umm. Feels so good.” He groaned. “But this is about you Sara. Getting you warmed up.”

“Your body heat's warming me up.”

“Oh. Well good then.” He said enjoying her touches.

Sara closed her eyes and softly sighed. He kissed her skin wherever his lips could touch.

“Feels nice.”

He found her lips and kissed them passionately. Sara heard the kettle for the hot cocoa in the kitchen. She wordlessly got out of the tub, not knowing what to tell Grissom, but knowing he'd be right behind her.

“Sara.” He said running after with water dripping on the floor. “Why did you get out of the tub? Weren't you enjoying the bath?” He sounded wounded.

“Yeah, I was. But then I remembered we have hot cocoa.”

“Oh.” He deadpanned. “Couldn’t that wait?”

They wiped off the excess water from the bath and from herself.

“It could…but,” Sara wrapped a blanket around his shoulders. “Wouldn’t you rather join me?”

“Umm very tempting.”

“Come on, Bugman. Let's get comfy by the firelight.”

“Ooh, sounds good,” Sara got Grissom snug in his blankets again. He was getting some color back, which was good. However, he was still convinced that she was sick.

“Sara, are you warming up? How do you feel, better?”

“I'm fine, Griss.”

“Still cold?” She sensed his worry.

“I'm okay.” She tried to assure him.

“Need me to cuddle more?” He asked with a childish tone.

“I think I’m alright. Unless you need to cuddle,” she amended quickly.

“I want you to be warm.” He stated matter-of-factly. Sara unwrapped his blankets and positioned herself under them. He wrapped himself in the blankets with Sara. “Umm, that’s better?”

“Yeah, better.” He kissed her cheek. Maybe we should get some sleep?” Sara suggested.

“Where? Here?” He asked.

“Sure. Why not?”

Within seconds he was out cold in Sara's arms. Sara wrapped her arms around Grissom. She kissed his forehead. I'm sorry.... I’m so sorry I didn’t wake you up to drive, this is a partnership, I’m so sorry...its all my fault. She laid him down before stoking the fire and then laying down in the other sleeping bag.

“Sara...Sara. Where are you Sara?” Grissom was thrashing around on the floor. He was having a nightmare.

Sara and Grissom were walking through the forest. She picked up a pile of snow and threw it at him giggling as she did so.

He retreated and threw snow at her. They both fell in the snow rolling around. They rolled onto the frozen lake. The ice snapped and before he could react, she fell through the ice.

He grabbed her hand and tried to pull her out. He was trying so hard, she was screaming his name.

“Sara…Sara…Where are you Sara?

She was gone. He lost her.
