Chapter 3
"Why sir, did I just hear you ask me for a lunch date?" Putting on an exaggerated version on of my original Southern accent I poked my tongue playfully towards him, as he folded his arms loosely, leaning back in his chair and stretching those long legs of his out in front of him. "Mhhm, well.. since you mentioned it, there is this new Japanese restaurant around the corner, been dying to try it out." "Japanese? That's my favor.." I paused, there was no way he could know, hardly anyone knew my love for sushi and stir fry.. Pfft, probably just a coincidence that he knew about that tiny little place that had just opened, and that I simply adored the food there.. total fluke, right? "Your favorite? Good to know you have some taste, little girl" "Daniel.." "Fine, fine.. let's say around nine?" "Oh I dunno, sir.. that might be past my bed time." Purposefully widening my eyes to look innocent and pouting my lips I was aiming to at least get a chuckle out of him, narrowing his eyes in response, shaking his head at my dramatics and slipping his hands into his vest pockets. "Feisty little thing aren't you? Alright, I'll admit you have more than just some taste.. found that out when you agreed to have lunch with me." "So modest, Dan.." "I'm just a modest kind of guy, you know me." "Indeed.. your level of modesty is simply staggering." At that particular moment I could have sworn there was a glimmer of a genuine smile on his face, and something in those big, brown eyes changed.. they seemed to warm up, I couldn't quite recognize what that look was before he stood to his feet, briefcase in hand, even the tone of his voice had softened, tucking the newspaper he had been reading under his arm and picking up the steaming cup of coffee on the near by table he made his way towards the cafeteria door where he stopped.. briefly.. "Until tonight, young lady.. Oh my, look at the time.. already making me late, you would make a terrible girlfriend, Miss Miller."
