Discovery
Jeff knew Drake was gone, but he stays on the couch for a few minutes longer, just to make sure. Finally, Jeff got himself up off the couch. He didn't know how, but his staggering legs take him to the bathroom. He turns on the water to the bathtub and undressed.
As soon as he was able, he climbed into the shower and allowed the hot water sting every inche of his body.
He thought if the inside of his body could be tortured, perhaps he could torture the outside as well.
The hot water pounded on his head as he allowed the tears to flow...
After a blisful day of being together, Phineas and Olivia decideds to go back to her apartment.
"You don't want to check on Jeff?" Olivia asks.
"Nah. I'm sure he's with Morgan. You know how crazy they are for each other,"
Olivia smiles and kisses him hard on the lips. "Like I'm crazy about you?"
Phineas Bogg grins. "Guess we'd better hurry, huh?"
Olivia laughs. "Phineas Bogg, you ARE encourgable!"
Bogg shrugs. "You bring that out of me,"
They come to Olivia's apartment and finds Morgan still reading and still very much alone.
"Where's Jeff?" Bogg asks, looking around.
Morgan shrugs. "I don't know, Bogg. I haven't seen him all day," the small girl told him,her eyes wide.
"Phineas?" Olivia said, not liking the look on the pirate's face.
Bogg looks over at her. "Well, I DID say IF he got bored. I'd better go and see how he's doing,"
Olivia wraps her arms around him.
"See you later, huh?" she asks.
"Definately," Bogg smiles and reluctantly leaves her.
Bogg gets to the apartment in a little less then ten minutes. There was one light on, but no Jeff. The couch was in a shamble, so he puts the cushions back on.
"Jeff?" he calls out, but no answer.
He looks around and hears the shower in the restroom.
Relieved in knowing that Jeff was there, he went to the kitchen to make some dinner.
A few minutes later, he hears the water stop and Jeff leaving the bathroom.
"Jeff! I'm making dinner. It'll be ready in ten minutes,"
Bogg hears the boy's bedroom door slam. Odd, Bogg thought, the boy didn't even say hello.
He puts down the spoon and turns off the stove. Bogg walks over to the boy's door and knocks.
"Jeffrey? I made dinner and it looks pretty good if I don't say so myself,"
"I'm not hungry,"
"Kid, you're always hungry,"
"Leave me alone, please, Bogg." the voice was not like the boy at all.
Bogg shrugs. "Fine by me. I'll just have this wonderful food by myself,"
In the bedroom, Jeff wishs he didn't feel the way he did. He was confused with what he was feeling. It was all mixed together: anger, hatred, emptiness.
He knew he should tell Bogg, but what if what Drake said was true?
That not even Phineas would believe him? The hot shower had felt good, but it did not deaden the pain that was still inside him.
Jeff sat on his bed, wraped his arms around his knees and burried his head to cry...
The next morning Phineas was certian Jeff would be up. He usualy was up and ready to get to work.
He went to the boy's room and knocked on the door.
"Jeff? C'mon, kid, up and at 'em!"
He heard Jeff moan something, so he went to fix himself some breakfast.
As few minutes later, Jeff finally emergs from his room and sat at the table.
"Mornin, sleepy head." Phineas smiles.
"Mornin," was all Jeffrey could say, but he did not dare look up to the man's blue eyes. He didn't dare to,afraid his eyes would give way to what he was feeling.
"Gonna eat something, kid?" Bogg asks, stuffing a forkful of bacon in his mouth.
"Not hungry,"
"C'mon, Jeff. You didn't eat last night, then not hungry this morning. What gives?"
"Nothing, Bogg. Can't I just not be hungry?"
Phineas was shocked at Jeff's harsh remark, but shrugs it off. The kid's tired, that's all, the older voyager reasons to himself.
So, he let it go. Jeff did the dishes quietly and then retreated to his room.
This puzzled Bogg for he knew Jeff was anxious to get back to work, so for the kid to act in this manner was a bit strange.
By lunch time, Jeff was still sucomb in his room.
Worried, Bogg went to the room and rapped on the door once agian.
"Jeff, you okay?"
"Please, Bogg, go away."
The kid's voice sounded strange, nothing like his own at all.
"C'mon, kid. You're scarying the hell out of me. Let me in,"
"No,"
"Jeffrey, open the door or I'll break it down!"
"Please, Bogg, just go away!" Jeffrey begged.
"No, Jeffrey. We need to talk,"
Bogg hears the click to the door and he opens it slowly.
What he saw shocked the hell out of him. Jeff was sitting on his bed, NOT reading, holding his knees and quietly whimpering.
"Hey, Jeff, what's wrong?" Bogg walks to the bed and was ready to sit next to Jeff.
"No, Bogg! Stay away!" Jeff screams, his brown eyes wild with fear.
"What's the matter? What's wrong with you?" Bogg repeated.
"I can't--I can't tell you," Jeff cried.
Now Bogg was worried. REALLY worried. Jeff used to tell him EVERYTHING and had no problem in doing so.
Something must have happened last night to make the kid act like this.
He tried to put his arm around his partner, but Jeff violently shrugs it away.
"Don't touch me!"
"Jeff--"Bogg felt hurt as to the boy was always ready for a hug before now.
"Please, Bogg. Just go,"
Jeff was feeling quite close to tears and he didn't want to cry in front of Bogg. He knew Bogg cared and loved him, but he just didn't want any part of it. At least for right now.
Oh, DAMN DRAKE! Damn him for what he did to me, Jeff moans inwardly. He looks up at Bogg, who's eyes were also close to tears.
"Bogg, I'm sorry. I don't know what's going on with me. I just know I need to be left alone," Jeff tried to make his voice sound 'normal'. What was normal, anyway?
Bogg sighes. "It's okay, Kid. I understand. When you're ready to talk, let me know."
Bogg leaves the room, but thankfully he didn't hear Jeff locking the door.
Feeling neglected, Bogg obliged and left the room. He wished Jeff would open up and tell him what happened. Especailly before the picnic tomorrow.
But, for now, he tried to clear his mind and take a nap.
"No! Let me go! Stop, it hurts!" the screams awoke Bogg with a jolt.
"Jeffrey!" he ran to the room, almost knocking over the night stand in the process.
"No! Leave me alone!"
Luckily, Jeffrey had not latched the door earlier that day, so he ran into the room.
He saw Jeffrey thrashing in his bed, as if trying to fight someone or something off him.
Bogg jumped to the bed and grabbed Jeffrey by the shoulders. "Wake up, Jeff. It's just a dream!"
"Bogg, where are you? Help me!!" Jeff screamed, trying to wiggle out of Bogg's graps.
"I'm right here, kid. Wake up!"
"Help me, Bogg! He's hurting me!"
The older voyager was taken aback to what Jeff just said. He's hurting me? What the hell is the kid talking about????
Finally, Jeff jerks awake, hie eyes looking right into the worried blue eyes of Phineas Bogg.
"What--" Jeff gasps for air.
"You had a nightmare, kid."
"Oh, Bogg, I'm sorry!" Jeff cried, big tears fell down his cheeks.
Phineas wraped his arms around his boy, who this time did not shrug him away.
"It'll be all right, Jeff. It'll be okay,"
They sat there for awhile, Bogg rocking the boy and whispering soothing words. He thought Jeff had been dreaming about his parents. But, the words,'he's hurting me,' throughly threw him off.
Jeff stopped crying, feeling a like a baby. Angrily he wiped the tears away and looked up at his partner.
"I'm sorry,"
Bogg looked down into the eyes that had no more laughter in them.
"Quit apploigizing, kid. You've got nothing to be sorry for,"
"Yes, I do. At my age, I shouldn't be crying like a big old baby."
Bogg's heart went out to the kid. He could tell the boy was in pain and despreatly wanted to help him. But, he couldn't if Jeff wouldn't open up!
He looked at Jeff square in the eye. "Jeff, we're partners, aren't we?"
"Uh, huh."
"Well, I thought we told each other everything,"
Jeff shook his head. "I can't tell you this one, Bogg. Please don't make me,"
Bogg sighed. He had to give in to Jeff's wishes and not pressure any further....
As soon as he was able, he climbed into the shower and allowed the hot water sting every inche of his body.
He thought if the inside of his body could be tortured, perhaps he could torture the outside as well.
