Test tubes and microscopes surrounded them, were watching them in silence, resonating the words Wilson had said again and again, unhearable.
‘What did you mean when you said you loved me?’
He hadn’t said it, he really had yelled it, and the moment the words left his mouth, Wilson knew it was too late to turn back. He clearly cared about the answer. He couldn’t pretend he didn’t anymore.
At first, House smiled. ‘Well, I said I loved you, so that must mean I love you,’ he said. ‘What explanation do you need? Can’t you just be happy with that?’
‘Don’t make me look ridiculous. Just tell me.’
The smile faded from his lips. He didn’t say anything, just stared at Wilson in his white coat, his hands to his sides, his shoulders hanging down. He never lost sight of his eyes while slowly moving towards him, until they were thirty centimetres apart. His lips parted, but he didn’t speak. Wilson tried his best to look him in the eyes, but lost the battle over and over, staring at the floor. When House left, it took him some time to find himself again.
