Chapter Three

Chapter Three: Here’s to the Night

Evan starred up at the ceiling of his Omega Chi bedroom. Just thinking. Eventually he fell asleep.

“I’m so glad we’re bunking in the same cabin Capp,” a sixteen-year-old Evan said.

“Dude I know,” a sixteen-year-old Cappie said. “And we got so lucky getting the two person cabin. We’re going to have such a good summer.”

“Let’s go to the mess hall and get some food,” Evan said.

“We have to unpack our stuff Evan,” Cappie said.

“Since when do you care?” Evan asked. “You’re just going to throw it all over anyways!”

“Fine,” Cappie said.

***

“Evan,” Cappie said.

“Yeah?” Evan said.

“I was just,” Cappie said. “Nevermind.”

“Just what?” Evan turned to Cappie.

“Nothing,” Cappie sighed. “It’s nothing.”

“Capp,” Evan said. “Just tell me what’s on your mind.”

“Nah,” Cappie said. “I think I’m just going to go to bed.”

***

Rain was pouring outside. The windows were cracked, the cool air filtered in through the cracks in the wooden walls of the cabin.

Cappie tossed and turned under his thin, torn blanket trying to find a way to stay warm.

“Cappie,” Evan called.

“Hmm?” Cappie groaned back.

“What are you doing?” Evan asked, “It’s the middle of the night.”

“I’m just cold,” Cappie said. “My blanket isn’t really good for the cold.”

“Well,” Evan said. “Mine is pretty toasty. You can sleep in my bed if you want.”

“That’s a little gay man,” Cappie sat up shivering.

“Suit yourself,” Evan said. “You just seem like you might need to warm up.”

“I guess so,” Cappie said getting out of his twin bed and moved into Evan’s and under his blanket.

“There,” Evan said. “Isn’t that better.”

“Yeah,” Cappie said curled up next to Evan, still shivering.

Evan turned to his side and wrapped his arms around Cappie and moved his chest to Cappie’s curled up knees.

“Evan,” Cappie looked up at Evan. “What are you doing?”

“You’re still cold,” Evan said. “My body heat will help you warm up a lot faster.”

“Thanks,” Cappie said. “You’re a good friend.”

Cappie stretched out and rested his head on Evan’s chest.

“Evan,” Cappie said.

“Yeah?” Evan looked down.

Cappie looked up. Evan ran his hand through Cappie’s brown hair. Cappie moved himself up and kissed Evan.

***

The next morning Cappie woke up in Evan’s arms. He was a little groggy but he sat up. Evan opened his eyes.

“Hey,” Evan said.

“Hey,” Cappie said back.

“How’d you sleep?” Evan asked. “Was it warm enough for you?”

“Yeah,” Cappie said. “It was nice.”

“Nice enough that you’d want to sleep in my bed tonight too?” Evan asked.

“You being serious?” Cappie asked, “Evan… What happened last night?”

“You don’t remember?” Evan asked.

“No I do,” Cappie said. “I just can’t believe that it actually happened.”

“Yeah,” Evan said. “What should we do about it?”

“I don’t know,” Cappie said. “I thought I was straight. I still think I am.”

“Me too,” Evan said. “But I can’t help it Capp. I think I have feelings for you.”

“Yeah,” Cappie said. “I have them for you too. That kiss made so much sense but I’m so confused.”

“We can always do it again,” Evan smiled.

Cappie leaned forward.

***

Evan’s eyes shot open. He was breathing heavily. He sat up and looked around his room.

“Oh man,” he mumbled to himself. “What’s gotten into me?”

***

Cappie and Rebecca sat across from each other at a nice dinner table in a fancy Italian restaurant.

“Happy four months,” Cappie raised his glass and grinned.

“You too,” Rebecca said.

“This place is so nice,” Cappie said. “Do you like it?”

“I do,” Rebecca said. “I’m glad we could come here. There is something I want to tell you.”

“Oh?” Cappie raised his eyebrow, “What is it?”

“I want to tell you later,” Rebecca said. “Towards the end of the night.”

“Alright,” Cappie sipped his drink.

***

Evan paced around his room thinking, wondering.

“What am I going to do?” He said to himself as he sat back down on his bed. “This isn’t supposed to be happening.”

Evan ran his hand through his slightly curled hair and pulled it.

***

Cappie pulled his shirt off as he stood next to the already shirtless Evan who was sitting on his bed.

“You sure we should do this?” Evan asked, “We can just stick to kissing.”

“Evan,” Cappie said. “The only way we’re ever going to really know if our feelings are real is to explore what two guys can do together.”

“Okay,” Evan said.

Cappie knelt down to his knees and pulled Evan’s jeans down to his ankles. A nervous Evan began shaking a little.

“Hey,” Cappie said. “Don’t worry.”

“I’ve never even done this with a girl Capp,” Evan said. “I’m a little nervous to do it with you.”

“Why?” Cappie looked up.

“Because,” Evan said. “I think I might be falling in love with you.”

“Don’t be nervous,” Cappie said. “I love you too.”

Evan let out a smile. Cappie smiled back.

***

“Cappie,” Rebecca said. “I want to thank you.”

“For?” Cappie asked.

“For this amazing night,” Rebecca said. “And for being so great. Cappie. I… I love you.”

Cappie let out a smirk.

“Well Miss Logan,” Cappie said. “I love…”

Cappie looked passed Rebecca.

***

Cappie laid in Evan’s arms that night. His eyes were still a little swelled from the tears he tried to hold back from the pain he had felt. Evan’s arms rubbed Cappie’s side and Evan kissed his head.

“Capp,” Evan said.

“Yeah?” Cappie looked up.

“I love you,” Evan said. “I know I shouldn’t love you as much as I do because we are both guys but I do. I can’t help it.”

“I know,” Cappie said. “I love you too. I don’t think I could ever have a bond with a girl that I have with you. It just doesn’t seem like it will work unless it’s with you.”

***

“Evan…” Cappie said.
