Three hours later, with Kinch and Hogan on one side and LeBeau,
Carter and Newkirk on the other, the collapsed tunnel was almost cleared.
Kinch and Hogan sat down. The hot, sweaty pair looked at each other.
"Colonel?" Kinch said.
"Yeah, Kinch?" Hogan responded.
"There's something that I've been wanting to talk to you about.
If I don't tell you now, I may or may not get another chance to say it." Kinch said warily.
"What is it?" Hogan asked. Hogan felt his stomach tighten.
He had a pretty good idea of what was going to be said.
"Colonel, I've been thinking about this for a bit..."
Kinch paused and decided to blurt the rest of it out, "and I'm in love with you."
Hogan let everything that Kinch had just said sink in.
His mind had a million thoughts whirling around.
His heart pounded and his pulse raced.
"Kinch... I've got a confession of my own. I love you, too." Hogan said.
They leaned in and shared a soft, chaste kiss.
The pair felt at ease with each other now that everything was out in the open.
