Grissom
Grissom stuck to his word. His car pulled into the driveway just a little over an hour after Sara had left him. Unknowing to him, it was one hour too many. He walked through the front door and called out Sara’s name. Then whistled for Hank.
Silence.
He frowned walking further inside. He immediately saw the coffee table smashed to pieces on the floor, blood clots attached to the shattered wood and glass. Then he saw blood on the sofa. His heart raced. “Sara!!!”, he shouted in panic as he sprinted through the house in search of her. Upstairs, downstairs…nothing. His mind spun as he pulled out his cell phone and dialled her number. The phone rang, but he looked around. He could hear it ringing. He followed the sound and it led him into the kitchen. Her saw her cell phone on the sideboard and hung up. Next to the cell phone lay the syringe used to subdue her. Grissom could feel his gut wrenching as his eyes came across an envelope beneath the syringe, his name on the front. He swallowed hard as he reached into his back pocket for his spare gloves, placing them on his hands before picking up the envelope. He opened it….
Dr Grissom,
How was your day? Late home again I see. Too bad. You know you should have cherished every possible moment you could have had with her. She’s quite a stunning woman isn’t she? Hot and feisty. I’d ask you how she tastes but I’m sure we’ll find that out for ourselves. Do you tingle when you touch her? When she touches you? When you caress her skin, smell her scent, taste her seed? Hmmm…We are very much looking forward to finding out the answers to these questions. Do you want to save her Dr Grissom? Can you do what is expected of you in order to do this? We shall see! Simple instructions: Do not leave the house, do not use your house phone or cell phone unless instructed to do so. Do not contact anyone in anyway or she will suffer the consequences. We are watching you at all times Dr Grissom. We will be in touch.
Grissom stood mouth widely agape as the colour drained from his flesh. Unable to control his bodily functions he lunged for the kitchen sink and promptly emptied the contents of his stomach.
Grissom did as the note had requested. He did nothing. He couldn’t risk any further danger to Sara. He didn’t know if he was being watched or not but he couldn’t risk doing anything that would aid in Sara’s pain. And he knew she was in pain. She was a fighter and the remains of the coffee table made it obvious to him that she had struggled and suffered the consequences because of it.
He sat on the sofa, in silence, his mind thinking a million thoughts at once. Who? Why? When? What did they want from him and Sara?
Suddenly he jumped. A knock at the door shot him to his feet. He hurriedly but cautiously approached the front door. He looked through the peep hole.
“Delivery for Grissom," the voice on the other side said.
Grissom opened the door to a parcel delivery driver who looked at his clipboard,
“Egh, Gilbert Grissom?," he asked reading the name of the paper.
Grissom did nothing but nod and stare at the parcel the man was holding.
“Sign here please," the driver asked handing Grissom a pen. Grissom took the pen and signed the sheet taking the package quickly and closing the door before the man could even say thank you.
He starred at the package. No post mark, just his name on the front just like the previous envelope. He sat back on the sofa and looked at the package. For some reason his hands would not move to open the package. He felt afraid. Afraid for what might be inside. He took a deep breath and carefully began to open the package.
He jumped again as he cell phone rang. He reached into his pocket and looked at the caller I.D…… Catherine.
Note: Do not use your cell phone we are watching you!
He placed it on the sofa and didn’t answer it. It went to voice mail as he stood and walked to the dinning table. Carefully tipping the contents of the package out onto the table. Just 2 items inside, a small box and another envelope. He opened the box. A ring he had given to Sara on her last birthday lay inside. Not quite an engagement ring but close enough. He still hadn’t plucked up enough courage yet to ask her “the” question. A sad sigh emitted from his lips. He opened the envelope and pulled out a photograph. It was Sara. Tears filled his eyes as he looked at the picture. Sara strung up by her wrists in the middle of a darkened room. Blindfolded, and gagged by tape. Several large bruises on her face and her wrists cut and bleeding. She looked terrified and he felt terrified for her. He turned the picture over to read a message…….
“ Nice photo don’t you think? Gets her better side. Answer you cell. NOW!!"
He heard his cell ringing in the living room and ran to it. Caller I.D, no number. His mind flew. Shit, how did they do that. How did they know he was reading the note? He looked around frantically. They must be watching. Unseen to him the hidden camera’s in the house that had been placed there weeks earlier, provided them with hours of entertainment.
He answered his cell…”Grissom..” he said a little unsure of himself.
“Dr Grissom…how are you feeling?” Kate sarcastically asked him.
“Where is Sara?” He asked through gritted teeth.
“Oh hanging around!”
“I swear to god if you hurt her I’ll hunt you down and……”
“Plllease!” Kate’s voice was eerily calm. “Don’t make threats that you can’t keep Dr…oh let’s just skip the pleasantries, I’ll just call you Grissom, like everyone does. You don’t want to upset me you know. After all she will be the one who pays for your lip! Listen…”
She walked over to Sara who was still in the same position she had been in the photograph. Her breathing was heavy and she felt light headed due to the lack of oxygen her body was currently getting.
“Do it baby.” Grissom heard as Kate spoke to Bobby. He reached up and ripped the tape from Sara’s mouth. She squealed at the pain. Grissom heard her pain and breathed deeply. There was silence and then a sharp hard slap. And a terrified cry as Bobby’s hand came into contact with Sara’s already battered face. Again and again, he slapped her face. Her head swung from side to side as Kate held up the phone so Grissom could hear every brutal connection. Sara managed two words…”Please stop!” She whimpered, tears flooding through her blindfold. Her face burning, her nose now bleeding.
Grissom’s heart lunged from his body as he heard her plea, his eyes darting frantically.
“Stop!” He shouted down the phone.
“Please stop!” He was now begging. “Please, please stop," he quivered in defeat.
Kate held up her hand as Bobby was in mid swing and he stopped immediately at the command of his woman. Sara’s head dropped, she had no more strength to hold it up.
“Do you get the point Grissom?” Kate asked.
Grissom swallowed hard and bowed his head. “Yes."
He was helpless, he couldn’t argue. Any little thing he said out of place, the woman he loved would suffer for it. All he could do was comply and do what ever they asked.
Kate smiled. “Good boy," she said smugly. “Now, go out to Sara’s car, her keys are by the front door and follow the map you find under the front seat. We will contact you there. And remember what the note said Grissom, no contact with anyone or you know what will happen.”
She nodded to Bobby and he clasped his hand hard around Sara’s throat, making her squeal again. Grissom heard and gasped. The phone went dead.
Grissom ran as fast as his feet would carry him to Sara’s car and leapt in.
Silence.
