Second Guessing Feelings
~~~~~~~~~~
Klink tried to clear his head of Carmel. He loved her when he should hate her.
She had been there a little over a week and every day, there she was tempting
him with her looks, taunting him with her American wit and just being
the little spit fire that she was.
"I can't love her. She is an American prisoner of war and I am a German colonel.
I can't let myself fall in love with her." He thought angrily. He could be sent
to the Russian front, court-martialed and shot as a traitor if he were to fall in
love with an American woman. Yet, at the same time, he would gladly go the Russian
front, get court-martialed and shot to love her even for a second.
Carmel laid in her bunk. She had never bothered to go to sleep. Her mind was too
cluttered with thoughts of Colonel Klink. Deep down, she believed that he was a
good man despite the fact that he was an enemy. He was more humane than most German
officers that she had met. The week she had been in Stalag 13, Klink had proved to
be a worthy man. He took her Southern sense of humor and Southern traditions in stride.
Carmel was grateful for that because her heritage was important to her.
"Maybe I do love him. But I couldn't possibly get away with it. I would be disowned
by my family for falling in love with him. I would, undoubtedly, be court-martialed
and shot for something like that... but it might be worth it." She thought. She sat
up and stared blankly ahead.
"Are you okay?" Kinch asked.
"I've just got a lot of stuff on my mind." She said.
"It's about Klink, isn't it?" LeBeau asked.
Carmel nodded. She knew that she couldn't and wouldn't hide anything from the Heroes.
They were like family to Carmel. Carmel looked around the room. She didn't see Hogan.
"Please, tell me that Colonel Hogan isn't talking to Colonel Klink." Carmel said.
"No... He's in his quarters." Newkirk said.
