Chapter 3
Cello Suite No. 1
Kahlen could see more of the entry way, now. She saw, from where she stood pressed against the wall, clutching her beretta, that how ever many men Cameron brought back, they were obviously strong and fast and doing the job efficiently.
“Has it moved towards you?” that was becoming the main question now, as all of military men – and woman – tried their hardest to move the rocks faster than was humanly possible.
“No.” Always the same answer, yet she was ready to change it at a moments notice. She could see the top of the spider-like thing and it was moving, yes, but not towards her. It was crawling back up the wall towards the ceiling where three – no, four – more of them had come out of the hole, making it seven in total.
Kahlen took a deep breath, daring to close her eyes for a second, trying to focus on the sounds of the others moving the rocks away and coming closer to getting her out of there and away from the creepy spider things.
She opened her eyes and screamed, scrambling back as far as she could, tripping over some of the rubble that was around her feet. While she had closed her eyes, one of the spider things had creeped its way over the pillar in front of her and was standing there, two of its ten legs pointed upwards as it's two pincers snapped together, a red liquid oozing out of the tips.
“Sheppard, what's happening?” Cameron's voice was slightly panicked, but controlled. Kahlen couldn't answer, her hands were shaking as she quickly raised her beretta, firing at the thing. It fell back, hissing and bleeding what looked to be black sludge.
“Sheppard!” her radio cackled again, and she was about to answer when another spider thing scrambled over the pillar and over his fallen brother. Kahlen swore and quickly reloaded her gun, shooting the spider thing. She made a mad dash to where her P-90 sat next to a pile of rubble and what used to be the small table she had set up.
Usually when Archaeologists or Astrophysicists accompanied a SG team off-world, they were fitted with a beretta, but, like her brother, John, Kahlen was a ranking Colonel but rarely went out into the field; she was completely content to stay at the SGC and continue working on translating Ancient texts for playing with new technology – she had more than enough to do than having to go off-world. Since she was a ranking Colonel, it was guaranteed that she would also carry a P-90 with her when and if she went off-world – just in case. She was thanking God or whatever deity that was out there that she had her P-90 with her at the moment.
“I'm fine!” she quickly chined in on the radio's, her newly brandished gun tucked up against her armpit; her fingers gripped the trigger, ready to start firing again.
“What the hell happened?” Cameron puffed out.
“Two of the things came over the pillar in front of me. They were poised like they were going to attack and the first one had some nasty looking liquid coming of it's fangs. I think it's poison.” She quickly glanced down, making sure that her footing was secure and focused all of her attention on the spider things that were taking up the far corner of the ceiling; their two dead were still on the other side of the pillar.
“Alright, that's it. We have the entrance way clear.”
“Good, but be careful. Last I counted there were seven of them, but I'm pretty sure that two of them are dead. I can only see three from where I am.”
“Understood.” her radio cackled into silence. She could hear their muffled foot steps as they made their way through the entrance, Cameron taking point if his orders were any indication. Even though she was expecting it, she still managed to flinch when she heard the sound of them opening fire on the spider things – aiming up at the corner they had begun to make their new home.
“I don't understand it...” Sam's voice filtered over to where she was still hidden and blocked, by the pillar, “How could they have survived so long while being holed up in there?” Before any of the others could answer, Kahlen interrupted them with her own gun fire; one of the two missing ones had appeared over the ruble to her right.
“Move!”
Things happened so quickly then, that Kahlen was still positive that she was still disorientated when she woke up on a completely different planet.
