Chapter 3 of A Woman Scorned

Descent Into Madness

As she drove away from the Duke farm Diane was angrier than she had
ever been before. How dare he humilate her like that, who did he think
he was. Driving as far as Capital City, Diane stopped to get a room
knowing she was far too upset to be driving. Once in her room she fell
on the bed, kicking her feet as she beat her hands on the bed and screamed
into the pillow, looking for all the world like a spoiled, frustrated
child.

Waking later from an exhausted sleep, filled with disturbing dreams
of Bo and Luke together, Diane began to realize what she had to do. It
was up to her to make Bo pay for what he had done, humilating her, leaving
her for a man. Well nobody treated Diane Bensen like that and got away
with it, she was special, hadn't her daddy always told her so, and daddy
wouldn't lie to her. But how was she going to punish him, if she still
had her carnival, well just because she didn't have the carnival she
could still find a way. After all she just needed to find a man she
could manipulate, into helping her. Thank God she was in the south,
southern men were so much easier to manipulate thanks to chilvary still
being alive and well in the south. The first order of business was to
get some dinner and a newspaper, seeing as how she'd need someplace to
take him to for his punishment. Later after a filling dinner Diane began
the business of plotting her revenge, looking through the paper she
found it, the perfect place. For rent read the ad; farmhouse +40 acres
and barn. Completely furnished, located in Hazzard County on Mill Pond
Road. Contact Bob Jensen at the Capital City Bank. It was too late to
contact Mr. Jensen today, in the meantime she would figure out what she
would need to properly punish Bo Duke. After a while she left the room
having come up with a plan but there were some supplies she would need
first. Returning later having procured her supplies Diane retired to
bed leaving an 8 a.m. wake-up call with the desk.

The next day Diane was already awake when the desk clerk called her
room, after ordering breakfast she headed to the bathroom for a quick
shower. When the bank's doors opened at 9 o'clock Diane was waiting,
stepping inside she approached a teller, asking for Mr. Jensen the teller
pointed her in the direction of the manager's office. Stepping up to
the door she gave a quick knock, "Yes?" a voice called from within.

"Hello, are you Mr. Jensen?" Diane asked the balding middle-aged man
sitting at the desk.

"Yes I am, how can I help you Miss...?"

"Oh I'm sorry, where are my manners. I'm Diane Be...Benton, I saw
your ad in the paper and I'd like to speak to you about renting the
farmhouse in Hazzard County."

"Are you sure you read the ad correctly Miss Benton, no offense but you
hardly seem the type to take up farming."

"The same could be said of you Mr. Jensen, yet here you are the owner
of a farm."

"I apologize Miss Benton, it is of course none of my business. Well the
farmhouse is fully furnished, however I'm afraid it is rather old-fashioned.
You see it belonged to my folks and now that they've passed on I've
decided to rent it out rather than sell it outright."

"No, Mr. Jensen it's I who should apologize, I'm afraid I've been
getting a bit emotional lately. You have every right to ask questions,
after all it is your property. Actually you're right I'm not a farmer,
I'm a writer and I'm looking for someplace quiet and secluded where I
can work in peace."

"Oh, of course well then let's see what sort of an agreement we can come
to."

A short while later Diane returned to her room, the directions and
keys safely tucked into her purse. "Soon Bo..." she whispered to herself
as she began to pack her bag as she waited for darkness to fall. Stopping
at a store in Capital City Diane shopped for foodstuffs to take with her,
it wouldn't do after all for anyone in Hazzard to know she was at the
Jensen farm. Just a few miles from the Duke farm, a short distance from
her lover, Bo. "Soon my love, soon I'll save you from him. I won't
let him turn you away from me, I'll make him admit to what he's done.
You'll see Bo, I'm the one who loves you, not Luke, he just wants to
control you, but I won't let him get away with it. By the time I'm
done he'll be begging to confess all of his sins, I'll make him admit
that he manipulated you, that he doesn't love you, he just wants you for
the sex. That's why he lied to you and turned you against me, but soon
you'll know the truth, you'll know it's me you belong to, not him! I'll
make it up to you Bo, I'm sorry I almost believed him, I know now that
none of this is your fault."

Two days later Luke received a phone call from the VA in Atlanta. "Mr.
Duke my name is Ms. Clayton and I'm with the Veterans Affairs office in
Atlanta. I'm afraid Mr. Duke there are some discrepencies in your files,
would you be able to come into the office this afternoon so that we can
clear this up?"

"This afternoon...yeah I guess that would be okay, what time should I
be there?"

"3 o'clock, would that be acceptable for you?"

"Sure 3 o'clock, Ms. Clayton, I'll be there and thanks for calling."

At 1:30 that afternoon Luke kissed Bo goodbye and headed to Atlanta
in Jesse's truck. A short way down the road he saw a car pulled to the
side of the road with the hood raised and someone bent underneath it,
attempting to fix the problem. Pulling to the side behind the car, Luke
got out to see what he could do, only to be met by Diane gun in hand.

"Diane! what do you want?"

"Now Luke is that anyway to speak to a lady. Especially a lady with
a gun, but I suppose you do deserve an answer. I want you to climb into
the trunk, we're going to take a little drive."

"You don't really think I'm just going to..." BANG! Luke flinched as the
bullet kicked up dirt next to his feet.

"The next one won't miss, now it's up to you how this plays out Luke.
You can cooperate and you may live through this, or I can kill you now
and send your body back to Bo in pieces. Which will it be Luke?"

Realizing that as long as he was alive there was a chance, Luke knew he
had no choice. He'd have to cooperate and wait for a chance to escape.
"Okay, okay I'll do what ya say."

"Good, now go to the trunk and open it. Now climb in...don't make me
repeat myself." Looking down at Luke curled up in the trunk Diane calmly
closed the lid, after shutting the hood she drove off leaving Jesse's
truck a silent witness to Luke's abduction.
