I do not own Battlestar Galactica, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Chapter 3
AN: So here is my thought process on this. If Earth was colonized by the 13th tribe of Kobol, than most if not all of our ancient history is moot. No Fertile Crescent, No Egypt, No Rome, etc. Earth was colonized by space-faring humans thus we would have technology not found in our ancient history. People just don’t forget something like that. Even if the colonists decided to “return to simpler times”, there would still be some record of this. The Amish are good indicator of this. Even though they have rejected some of the more modern conveniences available today, they still know about it and use some of the more outdated tools.
I’ve glanced through some episode guides of the old series to see if they explained this a little more but haven’t really found anything. I do remember one episode where Apollo received some footage of man’s first walk on the moon but that episode didn’t explain how Earth would be like and how they would find it if they reached it.
So, in my mind, we are dealing with an alternate Earth. Possible one not as advanced as the 12 tribes but still very different than the one we live in today.
Also, I thought long and hard regarding the language “Earthlings” would speak. We are talking about centuries passing between the two colonies. I kinda think of it as Latin to our modern language. While most of our words are derived from Latin and other languages, if we were to speak to someone who only spoke Latin, we would get no where. Heck, most of us have to concentrate really hard to read Shakespeare and that is in the same language, lol. The point is that speech patterns evolve so if centuries separate the two tribes than more than likely their speech patterns would change over that time.
I could have gone one of two ways on this. I could have made this incredible more simple by just letting the Earthlings speak the same language and just chalk it up to the fact that ultimately they came from the same place so nothing changes and they speak the same language. Or I could have let evolution of speech patterns (as well as other things which you’ll soon learn about) take its course and make what is in my mind the more accurate storyline.
Feel free to let me know what you think. Agree or Disagree?
When I do finally wake the Earthlings, I’ll let you know how I will designate when they are speaking and the Battlestar cast is speaking. More than likely brackets will be used.
Thanks again for reading this rough draft. I hope I haven’t confused anybody yet. I only have about two more chapters in my head before I come to a stopping place (unless the plot bunnies get fired up and totally take over again, lol).
“She didn’t understand.” The blonde said sadly as she sat in the far corner of the station where they others continued to watch the monitors. “THEY didn’t understand, Gaius.”
Gaius remained mute as the image of his lover continued to speak. “They were sent to us by God, Gaius. Without them, we would be nothing. God sent them for us to protect.” Number Six stood gracefully from her perch and approached the silent man. “The very fact that they showed up here of all places is proof of God’s gift. He knew that if they had encountered your people first, they would have been polluted against him so he made sure that it was us that they met first.”
Gaius continued to ignore the woman despite her words. He tried to keep most of his attention on the conversation that had begun once the video had been replaced by a stream of numbers.
Boomer scanned the data as quickly as possible. “The Cylons had tried to recreate the human form with little success. But with the appearance of these humans, they were able to take samples…blood, tissues, etc. Finally, they completed the first versions of their…human look-alikes.”
Laura looked up to the pods and felt remorse for the twelve people lying within them. To be experimented on, especially without your consent would be a devastating to anyone. She wondered how they would be able to handle the realization of this once…if these Earthlings ever awoke from their imposed sleep.
She whispered softly to Doctor Cottle who stood next to her. “Doctor, could you please examine them. Let me know their condition as soon as possible.”
Overhearing her request, Adama quickly added to her request. “Dr. Baltar, Chief, inspect the pods. See if there is a way to transport them without disturbing or awakening there occupants.”
Laura turned sharply to him. “You’re not going to wake them?”
“No, I want to rule on the side of caution.” He nodded towards the screens. “While the video shows that the Cylons may have encountered Earthlings, it doesn’t prove that these twelve are the same ones. If they are, we can wake them onboard the Galactica. If their not and their creations of the Cylons than I would rather not have twelve additional machines running around.” He turned back towards the Chief. “When your done inspecting the compartments, I want you to take a look at their ship and get ready to transport it as well.”
“Sir?” Tyrol asked.
“It may hold the coordinates to Earth but until we can restore it, we won’t know for sure. I want to move as much as we can and get outta here. I don’t want to be around if the Cylons suddenly decide to retrieve their misbegotten gains.” Adama explained.
Lee interrupted. “Why would the Cylons leave it behind in the first place?”
“Yeah, I would think that this would be invaluable to them. Why just leave them behind?” Kara interjected, speaking for the first time since returning with Adama and the others.
Boomer answered. “The solar flares. They interrupted our silica pathways. We had to leave in a hurry or…die.”
“Then why not come back once the flares dissipated.” Lee said.
Boomer scanned the information. “They planned to. After assuring that the pods and its life support systems were stable, they left. But there were already plans in preparation to return. I…it doesn’t say anything else.” To prove the fact, the screen stopped streaming and stayed at the current list of numbers. A cursor blinking the end of the transmission.
“It’s because we forgot.” Number Six said in total disgust.
“Forgot?” Gaius said outloud, confused. The others glanced quickly at the befuddled man. Noticing that he now held the attention of the room, Gaius cleared his throat and thought quickly. “Maybe…maybe they forgot.”
“Forgot?” Kara scoffed. “How can a machine…forget?”
Quickly thinking, Gaius stuttered. “The…the solar flares.” He pointed at Boomer. “You said that the radiation caused by the flares were…interrupting their silica pathways…their brainwaves…correct?”
Boomer nodded. “Yes.”
Again, clearing his throat, Gaius continued to speak rapidly. “Well, maybe these interruptions actually caused damaged…not enough to incapacitate the machines but enough to change or even erase information…data. Such as the location of this base.”
“So smart.” Purred the voice next to his ear.
He cleared his throat, trying to ignore Number Six.
Adama nodded. “Even if that’s true, I want to get out of here as soon as possible.” He continued to issue orders. “Kara, help the Chief organize the transfer of the pods and the ship.”
Laura cleared her throat. “I think we should try to do this as quietly as possible. If word got out that we have Earthlings, we may be forced to act sooner than we want to.”
Adama remained quiet for a moment. “We could transfer the ship and the pods into the old hanger deck.”
“Where the gift shop is.” Tyrol stated, turning to Kara to see what she thought.
“It’ll be easier to corral that area off from the rest of the ship. Keep armed guards at the three bay doors.” She nodded absently thinking out the logistics.
“Only authorized personal. Chief, start thinking about a small group of your people to oversea the area. You as well, Dr. Cottle. Will need your medical team to make sure that the Earthlings remain health within their pods as well as when…if we wake them.” Adama continued.
“I’ll have someone from my staff leak to the press that we are transferring Cylon technology from this base to the Galactica so no one will get suspicious if they happen to see the ship moved. I’ll also see about having the fleet move away from the planet so no one will be able to peek out their window and see what we are up to.” Laura added.
“I want all of you to understand that this is highest priority and secrecy. Only authorized personal are allowed access to the hanger once we seal it off.” Adama glanced intently at each individual including the President making sure that each one understood the seriousness of his statement. “I don’t want the Cylons within the fleet to get wind of this…that’s including our industrious reporter. Hopefully, their not aware of what this place is and we can keep them in the dark until we can round them up.”
Kara turned to Tyrol. “Let’s get started.”
Dr. Cottle and Gaius soon followed the retreating pair.
Adama leaned forward, placing his hands on the large console. He glanced down at Boomer. “I want you to retrieve as much information from these computers as you can including any video feeds. If you need anything, ask Helo and he can retrieve it.”
Boomer started to nod but hesitated. “Sir.” As Adama reluctantly returned his attention to her, she continued. “I…I want out of my cell.”
Adama looked at her, incredulously. “What?”
She cleared her throat. “I think I’ve proven my worthiness as well as my alliance to Galactica as well as the fleet. I’m five months pregnant now and just want a little more freedom.”
Boomer felt the Commander’s scrutiny as he watched her for several moments before replying. “I want to make it abundantly clear to you, that I consider you an enemy. That will never change, no matter how…helpful you are. You are alive today for two simple reasons. The…child you carry within you and because you occasionally have useful information or skills that are valuable to us. If not for these two things, I would have had you executed immediately upon arriving back on the Galactica. Do I make myself clear?” During his short speech, Adama remained soft spoken which was contradict by the hard lines of his face as well as the steely glint of his eyes.
Boomer slowly nodded, tears welling in her eyes.
Adama watched the woman for several moments and without any emotion in his voice, he continued. “Helo can set up living quarters for you on the hanger bay along with the ship and pods. Don’t mistake this for generosity. You’ll be more useful among the Cylon technology of the pods than in the brig. There will be armed guards within the room at all times.”
Adama glanced to Helo. “That will be your responsibility, Lieutenant Agathon.”
Helo stood in attention to his superior officer. “Yes, sir.”
The last remaining Commander of the Twelve Colonies glanced over to the President and his son. “Let’s get back to Galactica. We have a lot of work to do. I want to be away from here within twenty-four hours.”
I’ve glanced through some episode guides of the old series to see if they explained this a little more but haven’t really found anything.
