CHAPTER 3
“Hey Katie. Where are you?” Bodie called out when he got home that night. The flat was silent and dark. Bodie had to admit he’d got used to coming home to someone. Two hours later after he’d had a shower and heated up some food Katie had left for him in the fridge Bodie was getting worried. He’d searched the flat for a note and there was not one. Where the hell was Katie? He wondered for the millionth time. At 10:30 he heard her key in the door and flew over to open it.
“Where the hell have you been?” Bodie dragged her inside and immediately checked her for injuries. Katie brushed him off impatiently.
“Stop fussing Bodie. I’m fine.” Immediately Bodie knew she wasn’t. It was very rarely she called him ‘Bodie’ usually it was Dad or Daddy and when she was really pissed with him ‘William’. The first time she did it they had been in the middle of a row and he’d burst out laughing.
“Come on darling, talk to me. You can tell me what ever it is.” Bodie switched on the kettle and sat her down at the kitchen table.
“Bloody boys is the problem. All they damn well want is to get into my pants.” Bodie nearly poured boiling water over his hand at hearing that!
“Excuse me!” He said astonished.
“It really ticks me off.” Katie continued as if he had not spoken. “They take you to some crummy restaurant, not even a nice one like the one you and Ray took me to for my birthday and then they expect you to come across for them. Yuck.” Katie took a sip out of her tea.
“Maybe you need to go out with older men then.” At Katie’s astonished look Bodie continued. “That crummy restaurant maybe all they can afford did you think of that? You need someone who makes a decent wage and doesn’t mind spending it and someone who treats you good also. I don’t want you going out with any deadbeats.” Bodie sipped his tea and watched her.
“How much older though.” Katie asked curious.
“I don’t know. 22 or 24 maybe. Just aim a bit higher darling. Go on, off to bed with you.” Katie gave him a big hug and Bodie kissed her on the forehead and she toddled off to bed.
Bodie lay in bed for quite a while trying to get to sleep, he had a 6:00 am start but he could not drop off. He was trying to think of some young men to set Katie up with to show her a good time but men he could trust and he kept coming back to bloody Doyle.
“He’s twice her age though.” He mumbled into the darkness still coming up with no other alternatives, well alternatives he could trust anyhow.
Bodie was a cranky bugger the next day. He’d been awake till 3:00 thinking about what to do about Katie and he was knackered. Of course bloody Cowley could not have sent them off to do anything exciting or active so he could work off his frustration, no they were sitting in the car all day watching a warehouse.
“For God’s sake Bodie, will you keep still!” Doyle snapped at him. He’d been fidgeting all day and it was grating on Doyle’s nerves. Bodie slumped in his seat and tried to concentrate. It was not working. Doyle glared at him again. “What’s the matter with you today?” He took a sip of his cold tea and grimaced.
“Its Katie.” Bodie admitted.
“What’s wrong with her?” Doyle demanded worried.
“She’s having men troubles.” Bodie reluctantly admitted.
“Men troubles?” Doyle laughed. “She’s 18 for God’s sake, how much trouble can she have at 18.” At the quizzical look Bodie shot him he amended that statement.
“She’s ticked with the um – talent in London. None according to her and I can’t disagree with her. I’ve haven’t had a bloody date in 10 months and its getting to me.” Doyle knew exactly where Bodie was coming from. They were both highly sexed and going without for extended periods made them both jumpy and 10 months had to be a record for Bodie.
“Maybe you’ll pick some one up at this dinner tomorrow night?” Doyle said helpfully.
“Oh Yer and take her back where?” Bodie demanded sarcastically. “I can’t take her back to my place with Katie there. I don’t want to subject her to a chorus line of women coming out of my bedroom. Not exactly a good role model hey.” Bodie said
“You can always drop her over to my place. I’ll take her to the movies or something. Give you some space.”
“You sure?” Bodie asked astounded. He’d never expected this.
“Yer, I like Katie, she’s a sweet kid and its not exactly babysitting is it?”
“Thanks Doyle. I appreciate it.” They both lapsed back into silence. The R/T made them both jump. It was Cowley with a message for Bodie.
“Katie called for you Bodie. Wants you to take home a can of Guinness and some milk.” Bodie hit Doyle as he tried to hide his sniggers. Cowley delivering shopping lists!
“Yes Sir. Did she say what for?” He asked.
“Och lad, do you think I’m your personal message boy?’ Cowley demanded. “No she didn’t. Go home and find out yourself. Nothing is happing there. I’ll see you tomorrow night at the dinner. Do not be late, either of you.”
“Good night Sir.” They replied feeling like chastised schoolboys.
Bodie stood in front of the mirror tying his bow tie and wondering what Katie was up to. He’d not seen her for an hour. Typical woman he thought takes forever to get dressed. He straightened the tie and walked out of his bedroom. He unclipped the dry cleaning tag from his dinner jacket and slipped his wallet in the pocket. The intercom buzzed and he answered it.
“Yer?” It was Doyle “push.” Bodie instructed and walked over to open the door for Doyle. He was also dressed in a dinner suit.
“Jeez we look like a couple of penguins.” Doyle waddled into the flat and Bodie laughed at him. He poured them a drink and plonked down on the sofa.
“Where’s Katie?” Doyle asked.
“Still getting ready. What is it with women that they can take 2 hours to get dressed to go out?” Bodie sipped his drink.
“No idea but it usually worth it.” Doyle said
“And is this worth it?” Both men spun around at Katie’s voice.
“Holy shit.” Doyle mumbled unable to take his eyes off Katie. She was gorgeous. Her hair was pinned up with a few strands loose around her neck and shoulders, a black figure hugging dress, very fine fish net stocking and high heels.
“God you’re so beautiful.” Bodie was amazed that this beautiful woman standing in front of him was his daughter.
“You don’t look to bad yourselves.” Katie remarked this being the first time she’d seen them dressed up in dinner suits. The effect was stunning. “I’m going to be the envy of every woman at the dinner with the two best looking dates in the place.” She hooked her arms through theirs and was lead from the flat.
