Chapter 3
The girl's walked into the kitchen. Jamie walked over and kissed the man sitting at the table on the cheek. "Hello Uncle."
He stood and kissed her. "Hello Jammies. How was work today?"
Jamie shrugged. "S.S.D.D. Uncle. Where are my manners?" She pulled Christy over to them. "Christy, This is my uncle Paul. Uncle, This is my sister also known as my best friend Christy."
Christy put out her hand. Paul took it. "Hello sir. It is very nice to finally meet you."
He nodded and sat back down. Christy could help but think that she knew him from somewhere. But where she couldn't place. Mary was struggling to get a big pot roast on the table and she took it from her. "Now Mamma. You should have asked for help."
Mary laughed and sat down, allowing Christy to serve everyone. Paul sat there and watched her move. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of man would do her the way she had been. "Excuse me."
Paul jerked his head up. "I am sorry."
She smiled at him. "I asked if you wanted mashed or boiled potatoes."
He looked down in embarrassment. "Mashed please."
She filled his plate and then took care of her own. As she sat down next to him, Clint cleared his throat. Christy took Jamie's hand in her right and Paul's in her left and bowed her head.
As soon as everyone bowed their heads Clint spoke up. "Please Father above. Bless this food for the nurishment of our bodies. Guide us each day and help us to make the right decisions in our lives. Give us the wisdom to help others as well as ourselves. Amen."
Everyone said Amen and Paul looked at Clint. "You still do this?"
Clint nodded. "I tried to install at least this in our children's life. If I learned nothing else from Mother, this was it."
Paul and everyone started eating. When dinner was finished and Mary raised to clear the table, all the children jumped on the chore. "Now Mamma. You, Dadda and Uncle Paul go into the living room and set up the drinks. We will take care of this."
Christy raised her eyebrow at the other four. Something wasn't right here. But she wasn't complaining. Within thirty minutes the kitchen was spotless and everyone joined the others in the living room.
Paul looked at Christy and handed her a wine glass. Clint raised his head to her. "Chris. I know that you notice everyone is here tonight. It just isn't because my brother is here. But it is part of the reason. He has something he needs to talk to you about and I hope you will hear him out and think about the situation before you jump to conclusions."
Christy nodded and sat down beside Paul on the couch.
"Christy. I know you don't know the rest of Clint's extended family. Meaning me and my sons. Clint, there is more to this than you know. I will explain it now. Christy. About a month and a half ago we found the second part of our Mother's will. I have two other sons. Their names are Paul Jr and Michael. We could never figure out why Paul couldn't get his inheritance from my mother, Michael had already received his. I went to the lawyer with my son and there we found the reason. I am sure that you have heard Clint talking time to time about our mother?"
Christy nodded.
"Well our mother was strange. Paul was her first born grandson. In the clause is where you come into the picture. The clause is that within two years of my mother dieing, Paul needed to father a child. Now I am like Clint. I am very picky of the choices my children make in relationships. There is no one around us that we know who we would trust to do this for us. Christy. You are everything we have ever looked for in a mother for a child. Paul wants someone who is kind, gentle, but at the same time will not let no one run over them, someone that wouldn't care about money, someone who thinks about other's before herself. Christy. I know that you purchased the old home of my brother's as well as you let them move into this house with you. No one is asking you to marry my son. That is not required. All that we ask is that you birth the child. If you choose to leave that is your choice as well as the choice of if you wish to stay with the child. Christy, sweetheart. I know this is hard for you but once let someone else take care of you. After the child is born, you will receive a quarter of a million dollars. Even if you choose to leave the money would be yours. I will set up a meeting with my son and you if you make the decision in the positive."
Christy looked around the room at the family that she thought of her own. She looked at Paul and then back at Jamie. She sat in silence thinking. She looked up at Mary and Clint and to each of her brothers. She took a deep breath. "If I do this I have a few requests. I wish to see the child whenever I wanted, no matter who he is dating. I do not want to go to a fertility clinic. I want the fertilization to happen naturally. I know my cycles, so therefore I know when I am most fertile. I don't want to be treated like crystal. I want to be able to work. I also wish that Mary will be in the birthing room with me. This is her first grandchild also. If you can live with these requests then I will do this."
Paul hid his surprise. He looked at Mary and Clint. Clint was trying so hard not to smiled or bust out laughing. He knew Christy was full of spunk but this part of her he had never seen. Paul smiled at her. "Well then Christy. Let's make a baby."
Christy nodded and shook his hand and stood up. "I am going to bed. It was very nice to meet you sir."
Paul nodded and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you Christy, and the name is Paul."
She turned and walked out the doorway, leaving the three boys staring at her. Jamie hugged Paul and followed her friend out the door.
"Well that went better than expected.", Josh remarked.
A few hours later after everyone had went to bed, Paul and Clint were sitting on the porch outside his office. Paul started to speak and Clint help up his hand. Soon a door was heard opening and Clint nodded.
Jamie walked out on her and Christy's adjoining balcony. "Hey sis. Why did you do it?", she asked as she sat down beside her.
"I thought about it Jam. Paul made some good points. And I figured it out. All my life I have been trying so hard to please everyone. Right before the idiot divorced me I was thinking about having a baby. The money doesn't matter to me. I promised myself that my child would not grow up like I did. With no mother to love it. I see the love that Mamma has for us. Even me. I am not her blood but I might as well be. There were times whenever my life seemed like it was worth nothing but yet Mamma made me realize I was loved. I look at it this way. The boys are not getting married anytime soon. You aren't getting pregnant anytime soon. You wanted to wait till after you were married. When I got the papers for the divorce you all helped me through it. The hearing everyone was there. I know the material things don't matter to you all. The love does. I could buy cars, houses and give all the money in my bank to Mamma and Dadda and it still wouldn't matter. This is the way to pay them both back for all the love they gave a spoiled rich girl who had no love from her own home. It is the least I can do."
Jamie hugged Christy close. "I have never been so proud as to be considered your sister right now. You do have so much love to give. Paul is going to love you. So what if you all never get married. It is still the best thing in this world. I am glad your ready to move on. Just so you know. Uncle will want us to all move up there to be with them. I know Dadda misses him. Come on. Let's go to bed."
Clint waited till the door shut and looked over at Paul. He was crying. "We made the right decision didn't we Clint?"
Clint nodded. "When you bringing him down?"
Paul thought. "I know we are scheduled down here in two weeks for a bike show. I'll introduce them then,If she still wants to do this."
Clint shrugged. "Just so you know. Christy would not have said yes if she wouldn't do it. She tries her best not to break her word."
The men nodded and went to bed. Paul would talk to Christy in the morning.
The next morning Christy stumbled into the kitchen. Mary reach her a cup of coffee. She took it and sat down next to Paul. "Morning."
Christy mumbled something and nodded to Mary. She laughed. "Oh brother. I forgot to tell you. Christy can't talk till she has had her first cup of coffee in the morning."
Paul laughed. "You sure you ain't my daughter? My son's are the same way. Oh yeah. We are going to come back down within two weeks to see you. Will that be ok?"
Christy finished her cup and shook her head to clear it. "Yes Paul. That is fine."
"You ready to go brother?", Clint asked as he walked in.
"Christy. Thank you so much for this." Paul hugged Christy.
"Your welcome Paul. I will see you in two weeks. Mamma we will need to get online today and search for houses in the immediate area that will be big enough for us. Paul if you could please keep an eye out for us."
Paul nodded. "I will look around and have my girlfriend Susan do the same. She is a realtor. I am sure we can figure out something."
Christy nodded and walked out to get ready for work. "I'll have Susan to give her a call later today or tomorrow. Love ya Mary."
Mary hugged her brother in law. "Love ya too Paul. Give my best to the family."
Paul then left to go to the airport and Mary smiled. She waited till the girl's left for work and then sat down to her needle point.
