ch 3

Grissom woke up first. He looked down at the still sleeping Sara and sighed loudly. It was loud enough to wake Sara up.

She looked at him, “Good morning.” She kissed him quickly. “What was that for?”

“A sigh of contentment.” He grinned.

“Yes I have to agree. What you did to me last night was nothing short of amazing.” She traced her hands over his chest. “Where did you learn that?” She was half scared to ask.

“I have read a lot of books.” He admitted. I haven’t had that many chances to practice, I hope I didn’t disappoint.”

Sara reached up to kiss him again. “You could never disappoint me.” She began to kiss his chest. “Besides, if that was without a lot of practice, I’m excited!” She was grinning. I wonder if he ever wanted to do this to Sofia. For Sofia. Sara swallowed the lump in her throat and became tense.

“What’s wrong sweetie?” Grissom asked with concern in his eyes.

“Nothing.” She lied.

“Sara, please talk to me.” He pleaded.

“Griss…. it's just…. it's Sofia.”

“What about Sofia?”

“Would you…” Her voice was shaking. “Would you…. ever want to do that to Sofia?”

“Sara, sweetie, why would you ask that?” He caressed her cheek.

“I still can’t help but think about you going out to dinner with…with her.”

“Sara, honey, we have been through this. It was nothing. My intentions were noble. I just wanted her to help me. I figured she had an in on Ecklie after working for him.”

“I’m sure that’s not what her intentions were!” Sara spat. “Otherwise why would she attack me about it, taunting me?”

“Sara, it's in the past. Nothing happened. Nothing ever will.” He was bold.

“I just worry, Griss.”

“Why sweetie?”

“I worry that this is all just a dream and one day I will wake up cold and alone.”

“Sara.”

“What Griss? I have been wanting this for so long I’m scared it’s not real.” She was near tears.

“Sara, this is as real as it gets. Do I need to prove it to you again?” He joked.

“I don’t know….” She laughed back. “It may be a requirement.”

He kissed her long and hard. The kiss nearly made her toes curl. She was amazed at how sensual the littlest things were with him.

“If you keep kissing me like that I may never get out of this bed.” She giggled.

“Maybe that was my intention.” He raised his brow. “Making you my sex slave.” He laughed.

“If you satisfy me like that…I’m game.”

He pulled her into his chest. “Don’t tempt me.” He joked.

“Griss, what are we going to do about work? Ecklie is going to have a field day with this.”

“As far as I can see there are no departmental policies against dating a subordinate.”

“I sense a but…”

“Yes…well…it won’t be looked at as us being in love. It could be rough on both of us, especially you.”

“They will think I’m sleeping my way up, won’t they?”

He nodded. “Is that going to bother you?”

“Probably at first, but it will go away. At work we are a subordinate and a supervisor.”

“And what are we at home?”

“Equals.”

“Equals, egh? How do you mean?”

“Well, we are equal. You aren’t my boss in the bedroom unless I want you to be.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes it is.” Sara changed the subject. “Should we both go to Ecklie and tell him about us?”

“I think it is better if I do it alone.” He stated.

“Alright.”

“I think he will go easier on me than he would you. The lab wouldn’t exist without me.”

She pouted. “So I’m not important?”

“I didn’t mean for it to sound like that, sweetie. You are one of the best criminalists I have ever worked with and I told Ecklie that. It’s just that after the suspension I think it is best if I bear the brunt of this.”

“Griss, I don’t expect you to do that.”

“This isn’t negotiable, Sara.”

Grissom sat in Ecklie’s office waiting for him to return. He contemplated what he was going to say to him about Sara and himself.

“Gil, what can I do for you?” Ecklie asked as he entered his office and took his seat.

“It's about Sara.” Grissom said softly.

“What did Sidle do now?”

“Nothing.”

“Then why are you here?” Ecklie asked with growing annoyance. It's now or never Grissom.

“Sara and I are dating.” He blurted out.

Ecklie’s jaw dropped. “You what? I knew it. Sofia was right!” Grissom's eyes narrowed in response.

“What do you mean Sophia was right?”

“She said you and Sidle had something going on. I knew it!”

“Whoa, back up. Up until a few days ago there was nothing going on between Sara and I. We were only friends.”

“Sure Gil, whatever.” He sneered.

“Believe what you want Conrad. I just wanted to make you aware before the gossip mill got a hold of it.”

“I will tell you this much, I will not stand for any hanky-panky going on in my lab.”

“We are aware Conrad, we are professionals, I’m sure we will get through it. So who do you want Sara to report to, for leave and stuff?”

“She will report directly to me now in light of the situation with Catherine. I will allow her to remain on your crew, for now, but if I so much as hear of anything going on I will move her, am I understood?”

“Yes Conrad, thanks.”

“Have you heard the latest?” Hodges asked Greg.

“What’s that?”

“About Grissom and Sara? Sara walked in on him with Sofia. It was all a big catfight. That’s why Sofia left.”

“Where do you get your information from, Hodges?”

“I have my sources.”

“I bet you do. But I think you need to tell them to get their information right.”

“So there is nothing going on between Sara and Grissom?”

“I don’t know, and frankly it is really none of our business. They are both adults.”

Hodges walked away. Greg went to find Sara.

She was in the break room. “Sara.”

“Yes Greg.”

“Did you catch Grissom with Sofia?”

“Excuse me?”

“Hodges just told me that you caught Grissom with Sofia and got into a big fight an that is why she left.”

“Greg, I think I need to find Grissom.” Sara got up and went to Grissom’s office.

“Have you heard what is going around this place?” Sara asked.

“No, I had my meeting with Ecklie.”

“How did that go?”

“Better than I thought.”

“How so?”

“He said you have to report to him instead of me, but unless we do something stupid, we can still work together.”

Sara smiled. She wanted to grab him and hug him but she knew that was inappropriate. “I’ll show you how happy I am after shift.”

He grinned. “I’m gonna hold you to that.”
