The Ugly Duckling
Kalan liked visiting Brock on his farm. It was like visiting home, only this home had chickens instead of buffalo, ducks instead of cousins, and Brock instead of his family.
The younger boy always made a point of inviting his curly haired senior to the farm. Brock knew that Kalan was homesick, and he was more than willing to provide the caring atmosphere that Kalan craved.
"I miss home." Kalan murmured one day, as he cuddled one of the fluffy ducklings to his face.
Brock nodded sympathetically and stepped closer.
Kalan smiled shyly, and set the duck down on the ground so it could run around with its family. He looked back up at the homely boy in front of him. "You make me miss it not as much."
Bringing his lips to Kalan’s, Brock grinned.
"I know."
