[A/N-Chapter 3, yes, it's done! Whew. Just in time for the new year. Yay 2005! Anyway, I'm not sure how good it is, because most of it was written pretty late at night (go insomnia, yes!). I might try a fourth chapter, I'm not sure. I'd like to explore someone discovering their relationship. Don't know, depends on the feedback, you tell me. So, I've got some partying to do, so read and please, please review!]
Clark gave up on school towards the beginning of third period and midway through his fifteenth scenario of how the afternoon would go. This one had involved Lex setting a team of federal agents on him and then sending him to Area 51 where the probing began and what happened after that was of no real relevance to his nervousness, he was just horny.
It was impossible to think of anything but the task that lay ahead. How could he tell Lex? Telling Pete had been hard enough. How could he start anyways? Just blurt it out: “I’m an alien”? Or, “Hey, you know that whole meteor shower thing? Well, it’s a funny story…” Or, “You saw E.T., right?”
Assuming Lex even believed him, how would he react knowing that he’d been sleeping next to an extraterrestrial? That his lover was from another planet? Not even daytime talk shows could touch that.
Needless to say, Clark dreaded and welcomed the final bell as it rung that afternoon. He moved, drone-like, through the halls, so lost in his own thoughts he didn’t even hear Chloe calling his name.
“Clark!” she said exasperatedly, breathing heavily. “Geez! Didn’t you hear me?”
Clark shook his head, trying to focus. “What? Oh, sorry, Chloe, I’m just… it’s been a long day.” Not long enough, he thought mournfully. “What’s up?”
Chloe gave him a weird look as they walked. “I just wanted to remind you about the movie tonight. You, me, and Pete? Don’t tell me you forgot.”
He rubbed his forehead in frustration. “Oh, God, Chloe, I’m sorry, I did, I totally forgot. Do you think you guys could just go on without me?”
She looked ready to rip him a new one until she caught a glimpse of his face. She sighed. “Yeah, sure. Are you feeling all right? You look awful.”
“No, I’m just…” he struggled for words. Somehow he didn’t think ‘stressing over how I’m going to break it to my boyfriend that I’m an alien freak’ would cut it. “I just have a lot on my mind.”
“Obviously. Anything I can do?”
Clark forced a smile at his friend. “No, but thanks, Chloe. I’ll talk to you later, ok?” he said, opening the door to his truck.
Chloe nodded. “Of course.”
“See you later.” And with that, he slammed the door and drove.
Four twenty-two. Exactly eight minutes until Lex could leave work. About ten minutes after that, he’d arrive at the Kent farm, expecting… God knows what, but not this, definitely not this. How could Clark look into the eyes of the man he loved, knowing he was about to do this to him? The responsibility of knowing his secret… especially for Lex, who was always in the public eye, whose life was pried at and picked apart. Would Lex hate him? God, would he fear him? Clark couldn’t handle that.
He paced nervously around his house, visiting every room with no real destination, ending up sitting on the stairs. His home but not his home. Clark loved the farm, loved his family, loved his friends. But he knew Smallville isn’t where he belonged. He couldn’t stay here. One day-
There was a knock at the door.
“Clark?” called Lex. He looked around and saw him, breaking into a smile. “Hey. How are you?” he asked, coming forward and kissing Clark in greeting.
“Not so good, actually,” Clark replied after they broke off. Lex looked at him, concerned. “There’s something you need to know, Lex, something I’ve been keeping from you, from everybody.”
“I know you have your secrets, Clark. You can tell me anything.” Lex stroked his jaw soothing.
Clark laughed sharply and without humor. “God, I can’t believe I’m doing this.”
Lex looked into his eyes. “You’re scaring me, Clark. What’s wrong?”
Clark stepped away from their embrace, running a hand through his hair. He took a deep breath and began. Turning to face Lex, he said, “What if I told you, that the meteor shower happened for a reason? What if I told you something else was meant to come- did come- on that day?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Think about it, Lex. The meteor shower was completely unexpected. I was adopted right after it. No one knew my parents were planning to adopt… because they weren’t. They found me in a field the day of the meteor shower.”
Lex narrowed his eyes. “Are you saying you came with the meteors?”
“Yes.”
“Clark, that’s-”
“Crazy?” Clark laughed bitterly. “I know. I know it’s crazy. But, Lex, I can do things. Things no person should be able to do.”
“We’ve seen a lot of that around here, Clark-”
“Lex! Stop trying to rationalize this and listen!” he yelled. Lex immediately quieted, eyes intent. “Lex, that day on the bridge. You hit me dead-on. And I wasn’t hurt! And the reason the car looked like that? I ripped the top off to get you out. Come on, think! I know you’ve noticed! You’ve probably been investigating me, probably have a million files on me…”
Lex was silent, and he glanced away from Clark for the first time. Clark closed his eyes. He’d always suspected, but actually hearing it was painful, to say the least.
“I burned them all,” murmured Lex. “The night after we first made love. I threw them into the fire. I thought, whatever secrets you might have, you would tell me in time.”
Clark smiled mirthlessly. “Bet you weren’t expecting this.”
Lex shook his head. “No, I… Clark, are you saying that you’re… from another planet? An alien?”
“Yes, that’s what I’m saying.”
“I hope you understand if I doubt this just a little.”
“Follow me.” Clark walked quickly out the door, leading Lex to the storm cellar. He knew Lex didn’t believe him. He thought he was another meteor victim. That was probably easier to comprehend. The only problem is that he was the reason for the meteor victims.
Clark sighed and pulled open the door to the cellar. “Please say you won’t tell anyone about what I’m about to show you.” He knew it was unfair to ask before…
“All right. I promise.”
“Come on.” Clark led him down the stairs. “For years, my parents hid this, even from me. It’s how I got here, Lex.” Reaching down, Clark yanked the sheet off the ship. Lex’s eyes widened in astonishment. “Is this proof enough for you?”
“Clark, is this…” Lex trailed off, brushing his fingers across the unnatural metal. “This is a spaceship.”
“Do you believe me now? I’m responsible for everything that happened in Smallville that day, that’s still happening. I’m an alien. I can walk, talk, and look like a man, but I’m not one. Watch me.”
Lex looked up, disbelief in his eyes.
Clark sped behind him. “Over here.” Lex spun around.
“How’d you-?”
“I told you, Lex. Come outside for a minute.” Lex followed him out mutely, his face showing raw emotion for once. He looked unsure, almost scared. Oh, God.
Clark walked to Lex’s car. Slowly, he bent down and gripped the hubcap. He lifted the car into the air and Lex’s jaw dropped open. Clark set it down.
“Do you see it now? Do you know why I never told you? If this got out, if people knew… They’d all look at me the way you are now. Afraid. Disgusted.” Clark’s voice faltered as he felt hurt tearing at his insides; so painful it was almost physical.
“Clark, I…” Lex was at a loss for words. “I’m not disgusted, I just- I can’t process this, it’s not… It’s unbelievable, and I just can’t… I don’t know what to do.”
Clark swallowed hard. “If you wanna leave, get away for a while, I’d understand. It’d be ok.”
Lex nodded. “I think I should do that.” He walked to his car, his face unreadable. “I’ll… well, you know.” Their eyes met for a moment before he got into his car, Clark’s pleading and hurt, Lex’s wondering and maybe even a little hurt too.
Clark waited until Lex was far out of sight before collapsing on the front stairs and allowing himself to weep.
~*~*~*~
Lex rubbed his face, trying to wake up from his sleeping pill-induced night. He glanced over at his bedside clock: 9:23. He stretched and rested his head on his hands. Saturday. He had no pressing work. He was free to go visit Clark, who would be finishing his chores pretty soon-
Clark was an alien.
Lex sat up as the thought struck him. He buried his head in his hands, the previous day’s events returning. It was true, he could feel it. Clark was an alien. Clark was from another planet. Clark had lied to him and to everyone he’d ever known for his entire life. It all made sense now, as he thought back. Everything that had happened since they’d met.
Part of him thought he should be angry with Clark for lying, knew Clark himself expected him to be angry, but Lex just couldn’t do it. Of course Clark had hid this. For God’s sake, the boy was an alien. Who knew what kind of national panic such a thing could ignite if discovered. People could never accept him. A person who knew Clark like Lex did, maybe; but people as a whole are scared and bigoted. Mob psychology would completely take over, and who knows what would happen to Clark.
Clark. Lex was overcome with compassion for him all of a sudden. He’d lived with this his whole life. Being different, having to keep this huge secret from everyone, even his closest friends. What a lonely life it must have been. Hell, what a lonely life it must be.
Maybe, Lex mused, that’s what attracted him to Clark in the first place: a sense of fellowship. Someone who knew loneliness like he did.
As he recounted the conversation they’d had, one phrase stuck in Lex’s mind. “I’m responsible for everything that happened in Smallville that day, that’s still happening,” he’d said. It struck Lex that Clark felt guilty for it. “I’m responsible.” Good God… Clark held himself accountable for everything: the destruction of the meteors, the effects they had on people. Clark, being the kind of person he was, blamed himself. Which was ridiculous, of course. Clark couldn’t have been more than a toddler when he’d… arrived, and there was nothing to indicate he’d have been any different mentally from a human child. He couldn’t have had any control over what was happening, or the repercussions.
That’s why he was always saving everyone, Lex realized. Of course, that made sense. He didn’t have a hero complex; he had a guilt complex. Suddenly he wondered; did Clark feel guilty about what had happened to Lex himself that day? Probably. Clark would feel guilty about stepping on your foot, that’s just what he was like. God, how did he even function around Lana Lang, feeling responsible for her parents’ deaths, as he must, all the time?
Clark lived with a terrible burden everyday of his life. He was a great son, a great friend, a great person, and the only one who’d ever believed in Lex. And he felt guilty because of something he couldn’t control?
Lex knew what he had to do. He knew… what he wanted to do.
Lex arrived at Kent Farm in record time, which was saying something, what with his usual disregard for trivial things like speeding limits. He parked the car and stepped out, burying his hands in his pockets as he walked to the house. Now that he was here, his task loomed before him. No matter what he told himself, Clark was an alien, and that was going to take some getting used to.
He rang the doorbell.
Sex would be weird for a while. Lex didn’t want to sound shallow, but he had thought about it. Sleeping with an alien was some pretty freaky stuff to consider, after all-
The door opened, and there was Clark. It only took one look at him before every thought flew out of Lex’s mind and he flung himself onto Clark. He kissed him, not caring who saw, not caring about what he knew, not caring about anything but the arms that held him now. Lex broke off and embraced him, babbling in his ear, probably quite incoherently. “I love you, God, I love you, Clark. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I love you, I don’t care, it doesn’t matter… It doesn’t matter, I love you.”
“Lex?” murmured Clark, his voice disbelieving. “Are you here, is this real? God, please tell me you’re really here.”
“Yes.” Lex pulled away to look at him. His face was pleading, frightened. “I’m here.”
“Oh God, Lex!” Clark pulled Lex to him, and Lex could feel him shaking. “I was so scared, I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again. Thank you for coming back-
“None of that matters. I love you so much, Clark. Nothing- nothing!- could ever change that. And nothing could stop me from coming to you.”
“I love you, too, Lex.” Clark kissed him again, and then held him.
After a few moments, Lex came to his senses. He chuckled and glanced behind them, where the door was wide open. “We’re lucky. The mailman could’ve had quite a show.”
Clark laughed and released Lex from his death grip. “Come inside, I’ll get us some tea or something and we can talk,” he said, shutting the door. “My mom’s in Metropolis and my dad’s working out in the north field, so we’re pretty safe. How… are you?”
Lex noticed the disguised nervousness. “Better. I was pretty shaken up yesterday.”
Clark leaned against the kitchen counter. “I’m sorry for doing that to you, it must have been so hard to-”
“Quiet,” Lex commanded. “I don’t want to hear it. I’m glad you told me. I’m… honored you told me. But now it’s your turn to listen. Clark, this is all really… unimaginable, and everything’s a little shaky. I’m still trying to understand it.”
“It was hard for me to believe at first, too,” said Clark. Lex gave him an inquisitive look. Clark explained, “I always knew I was different, but the… other stuff, my parents didn’t tell me until last year.”
Lex shook his head, a tired smile crossing his face. “God, Clark, how do you do it?”
Clark shrugged and gave a weak smile. “What else can I do? I can’t stop living.”
Lex reached across the table and took his hand, gently squeezing it. For a moment they were silent, just looking at each other. Then, Lex walked around to stand next to him and said, “Do you know what brought me here today? It wasn’t the fact that we were lovers. It was that you were my friend. Clark, you’ve always been there for me, no matter what was going on in your life. You may say you’re not a man, but the truth is you’re a better man than anyone I know.”
Lex smiled at Clark as he trembled, as his mind processed what Lex had said. Lex reached up and cupped the side of Clark’s face. Clark closed his eyes at his touch, leaning into his hand. Lex pulled him down and their lips met in an affectionate kiss.
“I love you, Lex,” whispered Clark. “I love you so much. Thank you for coming back.”
“How could I stay away? I can’t imagine not being with you,” replied Lex, burying his face in Clark’s strong shoulder.
Clark stroked his back and asked suddenly, “Can we get out of here?”
Lex pulled back. “Where would you like to go?”
“Anywhere. The mansion. I’m done with all my chores; I don’t have too much homework. I need to be with you, someplace where we can be alone.”
“Spend the night at the mansion. Say… say you’re coming over to hang out and watch a movie and you don’t want to drive home late. You still have clothes there, right?”
Clark nodded, smiling eagerly. He’s so beautiful, Lex thought, as Clark wrote a hasty note to his parents, promising to be back tomorrow morning.
Clark’s room at the mansion was the room where they’d first made love. Lex smiled as he looked around. It’d been furnished with some homey touches: pictures on the walls, kitschy little adornments scattered around the room. There were flowers, changed almost daily. A warm fire blazed in the small fireplace. On the mantle was a photo of them, taken only two weeks ago in Metropolis. Lex almost couldn’t recognize himself, for how happy he looked.
Lex turned when he heard Clark chuckling behind him. He expertly arced an eyebrow. “What?”
Clark masked the same expression, dead-on. “Once you’re done admiring your own decorating, would you care to pay attention to your lover who’s dying to get naked?”
Lex grinned, though he felt himself getting painfully hard. “Please, don’t wait on my account.”
His young lover smirked back at him and pulled off his t-shirt, and then his undershirt. Clark never broke eye contact, gazing at him seductively as he unbuttoned the fly of his jeans. Damn, he’d gotten good at this. He stopped undressing and laid down, his tanned skin a stunning contrast to the dark blue of the sheets. “Coming?”
Lex stripped off his shirt and jeans, leaving only his boxers. He got onto the bed and straddled Clark, his erection pressing against Clark’s own clothed hardness. Lex trailed his fingers down Clark’s chest, appreciating the long hours of work that went into such a hard body. Clark moaned underneath him. Lex smiled and continued. He pulled off Clark’s jeans and boxers and sat there for a moment, in awe of him. He slid his hand along Clark’s hard cock. Bending down, Lex closed his mouth over the tip of his cock.
Clark moaned loudly. “Lex,” he whimpered.
Lex could tease him, but didn’t. He wanted to make sure Clark got pleasure from this, as much as was possible. He brought his mouth down over Clark’s long cock and started a slow rhythm. Clark moaned his name over and over. Lex gripped his strong thigh with one hand and with the other began slowly brushing over his nipples.
“Lex,” Clark said deliberately. “Lex, I want you inside me.”
Lex ran his tongue along Clark’s length one last time and then moved up along his body. They kissed, passionately yet lovingly. Lex began to reach over to get lubricant from the bedside table, but Clark stopped him.
“I like it better when it’s just you,” he said, his eyes watching Lex determinedly with lust in his striking green eyes.
Lex started to protest, “I don’t want to…” and then stopped. Slowly, he realized. “I really can’t hurt you, can I?”
Through his haze, Clark grinned mischievously. He reached down and stroked Lex’s hard erection. “Just make love to me.”
Lex leaned down and kissed him again. Meanwhile, he positioned himself just right and, when Clark was least expecting it, drove into him. Clark broke off and cried out. He continued, slowly at first, then faster and harder, hitting Clark’s prostate with every thrust. He slipped his hand between their bodies to reach Clark’s cock.
“Lex, oh God, Lex…”
“I love you,” whispered Lex gently. And with that, he pounded into Clark one last time. Clark came explosively against Lex’s chest, keening low in his throat as he did. One more thrust and Lex peaked too, his eyes blinded for a moment as he collapsed against Clark.
Lex kissed the hollow of Clark’s neck and rolled off him, breathing heavily. Clark’s eyes were still closed. He looked peaceful, his mouth just slightly open in post-orgasm bliss. He opened his eyes and looked over at Lex.
“We need to do that more often,” said Clark, sounding very satisfied.
Lex laughed. “If we did it more often than we already do, we’d never leave the bedroom.”
“I have no problem with that.” Clark grinned roguishly. “Guess I’ll just have to spend all today and all tonight convincing you.”
Lex grinned back. “Can’t wait.” He rolled onto his side and trailed his fingers across Clark’s hard stomach. “But I’m thinking shower before anything else.” His eyes glinted naughtily.
Clark licked his lips. “Has possibilities.”
For a while they were quiet. Lex laid back and Clark settled his head on his chest. Lex loved the way their bodies looked together, tan standing out stark against his own pale skin. It was beautiful.
Lex was absently playing with his hair when he asked softly, “What’s the whole story, Clark?”
Clark glanced up at him. “The whole story?”
“Yeah. Yours. Or do you not want to-”
Clark leaned up and pressed his lips to Lex’s before settling back down. “I’d love to tell you.”
