Michael

Chapter: 29

24 hours later….

Sara sat on the sofa, her son in her arms, gently suckling her left breast. She smiled as she watched him, gently stroking the back of his head. She’d been taken to the hospital and her and the baby thoroughly checked over. Everything was fine and she’d managed to rest for a while before being sent home. The only person actually needing treatment was Grissom. For a badly bruised right hand. It had been strapped and he’d been given pain killers,

Sara hummed softly as she fed her son. Grissom approached from behind in complete awe of the sight before him. He sat next to Sara and just looked into her eyes. Smiling, watching his son feed. Sara smiled back at him and gently stoked his face. Holding her hand on his cheek. He placed his injured hand over hers and held it in place,

Then her face turned to worry.

“Baby I’m..so sorry about that”, she said gesturing towards his hand. “I didn’t mean to hurt you”.

Grissom smiled. “It’s ok, heal in no time. Anyway, I’m sure we’ll find a way you can make it up to me.”

Sara blushed slightly as did Grissom. “Oh yeah!”

Grissom nodded, and she smiled.

“You know…we still have to come up with a name.” Sara said.

Grissom thought. “How about William?”
Sara laughed. “Shakespeare?”

“I always liked Michael”, she continued.

“Compromise?”

Sara nodded and Grissom grinned. “Michael William Grissom”, he said happily.

Sara smiled. She looked down at her son who had just finished suckling.

“Michael”, she said gently stroking his head again as he drifted off to sleep.

Sara looked at Grissom. “I should put him down”, she said softly. Grissom nodded and went to stand but Sara took his hand again. She looked deeply within him

“Then….if you want too….we could talk.” She swayed from side to side a little, trying hard to get this out. He could see her face pleading to him. “We need to talk….but only if you want too.”

Grissom found his self stiffen and then she gently squeezed his hand in support, making him relax a little.

“Ok”.

Sara nodded and stood, cradling Michael she headed for the nursery. Grissom followed.

Sara had done a wonderful job doing up the nursery. With the help of Nick and Greg. Any child’s dream. Soft toys every where, fantasy wall paper, mobile heaven. She gently placed Michael in his crib and turned on the baby monitor. She turned to Grissom standing behind her looking a little nervous. She turned back to Michael and kissed him on the forehead before moving over to Grissom, who didn’t look as comfortable as he did before she told him they needed to talk.

She smiled at him. “Come on”, she said softly, taking his hand and leading him to their bedroom.

Grissom closed the bedroom door as Sara headed for the bathroom.

“You still owe me that back rub you know?” She called to him.

“Yes, I know” he answered and began to undress. For the first time in 8 months he was going to sleep in his own house, in his own bed. And with Sara.

Sara walked out of the bathroom to see Grissom clad only in his boxers. Then she saw the scar on his side. She walked close to him looking at his torso. He stiffened a little. She couldn’t help looking at it, a mark that had almost taken him away from her. He saw her eyeing up his scar. She gently reached over and placed her warm hand over it. Grissom briefly closed his eyes at her sensitive touch. She then took his hand missing the finger and gently kissed the scar there. It looked a little odd, but not too bad.

He opened his eyes to look deep into Sara’s. She had a feeling she knew what he was thinking about.

Grissom cleared his throat nervously and fidgeted slightly.

Sara smiled, took his hand and sat with him on the edge of the bed.

“Talk to me Gil”, Sara asked softly.

“What do you want to talk about?” He knew but it was hard.

Sara squeezed his hand slightly looking into his eyes. “You…how your feeling….what happened…..”

Grissom went to speak but when he mouth opened, nothing came out. He struggled.

“I….erm….I……I can’t. Sara I’m sorry…..I just can’t.” Tears began to form in his eyes. “Please….I just need a little more time”, he broke down now. Tears streaming down his face. “I’m sorry….”, he cried.

Now Sara’s eyes filled with tears and she reached over pulling him into a tight embrace.

“Shhh baby, it’s ok. It’s ok. It can wait. When ever your ready”. She rocked him gently as he sobbed frantically into her shoulder.

She cradled him for while. Until his cries subdued and he sighed heavily into her. She gently ran her hand through his hair, pulling away, cupping his chin so he looked at her.

“I love you..” She said sincerely. “That’s all that matters ok? We’ll get through this I promise.”

Grissom nodded. Sara was hoping for him to say the 3 little words back to her, but she knew it would come. In time…she prayed.

“You look tired”, Sara said. “You should get some sleep”.

She pulled him up and pulled back the covers, putting him into bed. She kissed him on the forehead.

“I’m just going to change and I’ll be with you ok?”

Grissom nodded and as Sara headed back into the bathroom he closed his eyes. Just wishing he had the courage to get out how he was feeling. He loved her so much, but something inside him had been broken. He needed to find a way to fix it and fast.

When Sara returned Grissom was already asleep, the last 24 hours and the over exertion finally catching up with him. She snuck into bed and propped herself on her elbow. She knew she wouldn’t sleep. She was just content in watching him sleep.
