CHAPTER 29
Amy sat at the dining room table doing her homework, he mind wandered…
“Amy can you get dad a drink please?” Marion asked.
“Sure mom, just a sec.”
Amy approached the bedroom with the glass of water.
“Mom, I’m worried about dad. He seems to sleep a lot.”
“Sweetie, you are only seven years old, it is not your concern.”
“But mom, it worries me.”
“Don’t worry, Amy. I’m sure it is nothing.”
~~~
The oncologist stood before them.
“We need to keep your husband Mrs. Pierce. He is in the advance stages of Leukemia. He will need some serious chemotherapy and radiation if we have nay chance of saving him.”
“You mean it’s fatal?” Marion asked.
“Yes, it usually is. We plan on doing all we can but with a case like this one never knows.”
“I can’t lose him.” Marion cried.
“Mame, I’m going to let you tell your daughter. We have a family room down the hall; you can call any other family from there.”
“I only have him and Amy. They are all I have.”
~~~
“Amy, please come here and sit down.” Marion requested.
Amy walked towards her mother. “Mom what’s wrong?”
“Amy…” She began.
“It’s dad, isn’t it?” The small child broke down. “I told you he was sick.” She screamed in a fit of tears.
“Amy, calm down.”
“I don’t want to lose him, mom.”
“They are giving him treatments to make him better.”
“Will it work?”
“I’m not sure, honey. We will have to pray it does.”
~~~
Marion approached Amy in the family room.
Mom has been crying this can’t be good.
“Amy.”
“Mom, it’s dad isn’t it?”
“I’m afraid so. They can’t do anymore for him.”
“Oh no. What are we going to do now?”
“I’m not sure I can go on without him.”
“What about me, mom?”
“I’m not sure. I need to be alone.”
She walked out of the family room and collapsed on the floor in the hospital.
Amy ran to her side. “Mom.”
“All the pretty flowers, can’t you see them?” She babbled incoherently. “See them?”
“Mom, what’s wrong.”
“There are the flowers. Who are you again?”
“It’s me, Amy, your daughter, remember?”
“I have no daughter, I’m only ten years old, and what are you talking about?”
The doctors approached the woman and took Amy away.
“What are you doing with my mom?”
“Do you have any other family?”
“No, my dad just died.”
“We need to call family services.”
“Why?”
“Your mom is sick.”
Amy collapsed to the floor and cried.
