The Sister They Never Had

Sam was in his usual seat of shot gun beside Dean. Mavi had taken residence in the back seat by herself, which was just fine so she could sprawl out on long trips to read as a distraction. She used her jean jacket behind her head as a pillow. She opened the book that was setting on her chest once she had settled in comfortably. Dean glances back in the rear view mirror as Sam shifts in his seat to turn around.

"What are you reading?", Sam asks her.

"A series I picked up by P.C. Cast and her daughter."

"What is it about?"

"Vampire finishing school in Tulsa.", she says with a grin.

Dean and Sam roll their eyes.

"I like their version of vampires!", she retorts back defensively.

"Do they sparkle?", Dean asks.

"Ha ha... so funny, not no they do not.", she rolls her eyes.

"Now shush so I can go back to reading."

Dean has a small smirk  on his face as he turns the radio of the impala onto the AC/DC cassette tape that is in it.

Mavi groans, "Dean!", a slight whine to her tone.

"You know how this works when I drive babe."

"You jerk!", she exclaims as she slams the book shut and crosses her arms over her chest and glares at the back of his head. Sam turns the radio down and gives Dean a sideways glance.

"Thank you Sammy!", she grabs his hand that is dangling over the seat and gives it a squeeze. Dean growls.

Dean drives for several hours. Mavi had read for a few hours and fallen asleep. Sam was reading a map with the flashlight of his iphone. Dean takes an exit and Sam looks up feeling the impala no longer a straight path.

"We need gas and I'm hungry.", Dean says before Sam can ask.

Dean pulls up to the pump of the first gas station they come to after taking the exit. He gets outs and stretches his legs before putting the credit card in the pump and fills the impala up. Sam gets out and goes in the gas station to use the restroom and stretch his legs. When he comes back out, he tells Dean there is a 24/7 restaurant in a truck stop a mile up the road.

"Want me to drive after we eat so you can rest?", Sam asks as they get back in the car.

Dean nods as Mavi shifts in the back seat and sits up yawning and rubbing her eyes.

"Where are we?", she asks sleepily as Dean starts the car engine again.

"A few hundred miles away from Tennessee. We are eating up the road and then Dean and I are swapping so he can get some rest.", Sam tells her.

"Want the back seat Dean? I can sit up front."

Dean again just nods as he heads the mile up the road.

They get to the truck stop and Mavi gets out to stretch her body and legs out before she goes inside and finds the table the boys are already sitting at.

"I ordered you a coke already.", Dean tells her as she sits next to Sam.

"Thanks Dean-pie.", she grins playfully at him.

He rolls his eyes and looks through the menu. Sam and her open their menus as well and start looking. The waitress brings their drinks and they order the food. Once the waitress walks away, Sam puts sugar and cream in his coffee. She reaches over and snatches the coffee.

"Thanks!", she says before she takes a sup and give its back to Sam who pokes the tip of her nose as he takes it back. She giggles as the waitress brings their food. They eat quickly, pay the tab, and reload themselves into the impala. Sam gets in the driver seat and once Dean gets in the back, Mavi takes her seat beside Sam. She attaches the book light to her book and turns it on to read until daylight, which is about four hours away.
