ch 27

That same evening, Sara stood in front of the mirror, trying to decide if her hair should be up or down.
Grissom fiddled with his tux, he could never get the bowtie tied. Sara walked in, fully dressed with her long hair in curls and up in a bun against her head. She even wore her butterfly necklace.

"You look amazing." He shuddered as he continued to fiddle with the bowtie. Sara took the bowtie in her hands and got it in one try. "How did you do that?" He asked in amazement

"I've had some practice tying Mara's husband's bowties."

"When do I get to meet this wonderful woman?" He asked kissing her lips and pulling her tight.

"Soon."

Content with that answer he took her hand, "You ready?"

"Just let me grab my evening bag." He nodded and picked up his phone and made a call. Sara joined him, putting her hand in his. "Let's go, Handsome."

He opened the door to reveal a very large limousine waiting for them. She looked back at him, shaking her head in a "What am I going to do with you?" sort of way. He held out his hand for her as they walked to the limo. They were greeted and the door was opened. Sara gave the driver her dazzling smile. They crawled inside the limo. He poured her a glass of wine and passed it to her.

"You’ve really gone all out, b...Griss."

"You know, it is ok to call me baby, I don't mind."

Sara glanced at the driver, who was looking at them through the rear-view mirror. She smiled at Grissom and clinked glasses with him.

"To us." He grinned as he took a sip.

Sara took a sip of wine as she looked out the window and watched the lights of Vegas go by. She shook her head. It was unbelievable to her that she had never really noticed how beautiful it really was at night. He took her unoccupied hand in his own. Sara absently squeezed his hand. The limo came to a stop in front of the restaurant.
The door opened and they stepped out. Sara linked her hand in Grissom's arms, wanting to be close to him.
After dismissing the driver they walked inside the restaurant.

"Hm...Comfortable. Don't wanna sit down."

"Wanna dance?" He asked motioning for her wrap.

Sara pressed herself closer to him as they walked to the dance floor. He wrapped his arms around her waist as they grazed across the dance floor. Sara closed her eyes and let Grissom guide her wherever he wanted to. She just wanted to stay in his arms. The song ended and they kept dancing until the next one started.

I wanna be with you forever. “I have to," Sara added in a whisper, not realizing she had spoken out loud.

"You have to what?" He whispered back

"Be with you."

He smiled. "I have to be with you too." He kissed her lightly.

"Wanna get some dinner now?"

"Sure."

They walked back to the table and gave their order to the waiter. He kept looking at Sara and it made Grissom uncomfortable. After that fiasco at the mall he didn't want to make another scene. Sara reached across the table for Grissom's hand. She gave him a smile. He was reassured by her actions.

"So what are you in the mood for?" Sara asked as she picked up her menu.

"You" he smiled at her. Sara wrinkled her nose at him, reminding Grissom of the young Sara he knew at Harvard.
"But alas you are not on my menu."

"Sara got up slightly out of her seat. She murmured in his ear, "Later"

He grinned widely. "So what did you want to eat?"

"The crab looks good," Sara mused.

"Yummy." He said licking his lips to get a reaction out of Sara. Sara giggled. "Crab it is." He motioned for the waiter to return.

"What will your beautiful daughter be having this evening sir?" The waiter asked. Grissom's blood began to boil.
Sara took Grissom's hand again.

"We'll both have the crab," Sara said, handing over the menus with her free hand. Grissom let out the breath he didn't realize he was holding. Sara looked pointedly at the waiter, giving him the message she was with Grissom.

"It’s always going to be like that Sara." He said disgustingly.

"And we'll deal with it," Sara told him soothingly. She placed a gentle kiss on Grissom's hand.

He smiled. "I love you Honey." He said as he returned the kiss.

"I know." Time must have stopped for a minute and then sped up. The waiter had returned with their meals.

"I must apologize for earlier, I'm sorry." He said placing the plates on the table. "I just assumed."

We get it all the time... Sara gave him a small smile. "Could I get a glass of diet Coke as well, please?" He nodded and went to retrieve her drink.

Grissom dove into his meal. "This sure is good." He said as he put another bite in his mouth.

Glad to see you haven't lost your appetite "So...how long of a drive are we looking at?"

"Around five hours, I think." He put another bit in his mouth and chewed upon swallowing he added. "It is only two states over. We can share the driving."

Sara nodded and took a bite of crab. Spotting the karaoke machine, she began to debate about singing.

"I can drive to Utah and switch or vice versa."

"Hm?" Sara's head snapped back. "Oh..yeah, that can work."

"That way one person isn't stuck doing all the driving."

"True."

"So do you wanna dance some more, or did you have something else in mind?"

"I could go for one more dance," Sara told him with a smile.

He held out his hand. "Lets go."

Sara took Grissom's hand, making it a point of ignoring the group of waiters who were staring at her and Grissom and shaking their heads.

"I like this song." He said as he nuzzled into her neck.

"And I like how you feel." AH! Did I just say that? Sara bit her lip.

He grinned and whispered in her ear. "You feel wonderful too."

Soon however, she felt Grissom tensing as she saw the same men from the mall coming into the restaurant.
Leading the pack was Hank Pettigrew, Sara's old boyfriend. He leaned into Sara, "Do you mind if we leave early?"

Hank was already headed in their direction. He grabbed Sara away from Grissom, wedging himself between them.
Grissom stepped back and looked at Sara not knowing what to do then Grissom was doubled over by a hard fist to the midsection. The pain was so severe he fell backwards onto the floor. Sara glared at Hank then she knelt down at Grissom's side.

What just happened? "I...I'.."

"You left me for HIM?" Hank was obviously drunk.

Sara stood up and faced him however. "I think you mean, you ruined it."

Grissom tried to stand up but he was dizzy. Hank grabbed Sara roughly, pulling her closer to him. Grissom stood up and moved Sara out of his way and clocked Hank sending him backward, Sara was close enough to grab Grissom's arm this time.

"Can we leave please?" He pleaded

'Right now, baby," Sara told him. She left money on the table for a tip and the two of them left. Hank tried to stop them at the door though. Grissom pushed him out of the way and they got into the limo. Sara helped Grissom lean back in the seat.

"Hurts." He mumbled.

"I know, sweetheart. I'm gonna take you to the emergency room, okay?"

He nodded. He was in too much pain to argue. Grissom got worried though when he was separated from Sara at the ER. I'm not sure if I can handle this. Where's Sara? "Where is Sara?" He asked out loud.

"In the outpatient's waiting room."

"Could you get her for me please. I want her with me."

Then he heard loud arguing outside the door. "He doesn't *HAVE* family here. Grissom hung his head. Sara pushed her way through the door, going straight to Grissom.

"Sara." He hugged her tight.

"I'm not leaving him," Sara reiterated to the doctor and nurse trying to get her to leave.

"She's my wife." He said matter of factly.
