ch 24
"We played a video game the other day. I bet him that I beat his score."
"Oh"
Sara's free hand went over to Grissom's, hoping that she wasn't crossing the boundary. "You look like you could use that massage if you still want it," Sara added softly.
He put her hand in his. "I would love it. That case was rough. I'm in definite need of a vacation." He smiled at her. Sara is going to give me a massage. I'll make breakfast first.
"Poor baby," Sara empathized out loud this time.
He brought her hand in his up to his lips and kissed the back of it. Shivers ran down her arm as she squeezed Grissom's hand.
"So what do you feel like for breakfast?"
"Got a waffle iron?"
"Probably, but it may be dusty. I haven't used it in years."
"Hm....we'll figure that out I'm sure. I've got a craving like you wouldn't believe."
She craves a lot of things? Are all women like that? "I'm sure it is fine, it is still in the box if I remember right."
"Good."
"Are you excited about out trip?"
"Getting there." That's the truth...just....take it easy Sara pulled up to Grissom's townhouse. She gave him a smile as she turned off the engine. He got out first and went around to let her out.
"Thanks."
They walked up the path and he unlocked the door. Sara followed Grissom into the kitchen. She set down her purse and her jacket by the door. She watched him haul out the waffle iron as she debated about asking him to spend today with her as well. An ironic smile touched her lips. Here lately, she had been telling Mara she was wondering if she should be spending less time with him, not more. Now here she was wanting to be around him all the time. Who would have thought?
"Have you ever used one of these things?" He asked looking at the waffle iron, not missing the smile on her face.
The smile disappeared as quickly as it had come as she got to her feet to help him. "Yes, I have."
"I got it as a gift a number of years ago. I have never used it. Never had a need until now." His own face sported a smile as thoughts of Sara swarmed his head.
"Did this all the time in college." Sara studied the iron in front of her, her forehead creasing slightly in concentration. Then, smiling when she figured it out, she put it together, plugging in the cord. "And voila."
"Wow, you are so talented.” He said coming in close to her and resisting the urge to kiss her neck.
Sara however, backed into his embrace when she sensed he wanted to be closer to her. “Got plenty more where that came from," she murmured, lightly kissing the tip of his nose.
"I can hardly wait." He said kissing her neck.
She grinned at him, biting her tongue at all the comments that were rushing forward. "Want me to help?"
"Sure, you are the expert."
She gently disentangled herself from him despite his loud protests. "In a minute," she reassured him again as she began mixing the batter.
"I got lots of food for Colorado." He was trying to get his mind off of devouring Sara on the kitchen counter. "If we need more there is a store nearby."
"What sort of things did you buy?" Sara asked curiously. Her hand got to close to the iron and she burned her index finger. She jerked it away.
"You ok?" He rushed to her side. "Mainly non perishables, vegetarian of course since my partner doesn't eat meat." He realized his innuendo after it came out of his mouth and he hoped it didn't upset Sara. "I didn't mean...I “ He looked over and saw the jewellery box he had purchased for Sara's birthday on the coffee table. I must hide that before she sees it. I don't want her birthday surprise to be ruined three weeks before her birthday.
Gil Grissom stood in front of the jewellers. Sara’s birthday would be while they were in Colorado. He didn’t want her to miss it so he decided to take the gift with him. He wanted to buy her something special, something she would always remember him for. He loved her and he wanted to show her that.
He took a deep breath and walked inside the store,’ baby steps’ he kept telling himself. He looked around and saw nothing that really caught his eye.
“Sir, can I help you?” The attendant asked.
“I’m looking for a gift for a special lady.”
“What are you looking for?”
“A promise ring. I know it’s a bit juvenile, but it makes sense to us. Can you help me out?”
“Well what type of ring are you looking for?”
“I’m not sure, I’ll know when I see it.”
“We have a few you can order if you like.” She passed him the book.
“How long will that take? I’m on a time limit here.”
“Only a couple of days.”
“Ok.” He began looking through the book. One caught his eye right away. “I like this one.”
“Oh.”
“ What’s wrong with it?”
“Its just not really a popular choice.”
“Is there something wrong with it?”
“No, it just different.”
“So is she, she is different, that’s what makes her perfect.”
“So what size do you need?”
“Six please. Can I get it inscribed as well?”
“Certainly, what do you want it to say?”
“To Sara love your Grissom.”
“Could you spell that for me?”
“G-r-I-s-s-o-m.” He spelled out.
“Thanks, now what stones do you want in this?”
“A solitary in the middle and peridot and a sapphire on either sides, please.”
“Are they your birthstones?”
“Yes.”
“White Gold for the band?”
“Yes.”
“Your lady must be quite special.”
“Yes she is.”
Sara touched his face with her free hand. "It's okay, baby." Then she looked down at her finger and cursed softly. "Still got that aloe vera plant handy?"
He took that as a blessing. "Yup, I'll get it." He ran over, grabbed a piece of the plant and pocketed the case, hoping she wouldn't notice. "Want me to do it?" He asked taking her hand.
"Sure." Sara's voice sounded slightly strangled as she bit her lip against the tingles going up and down her hand at his touch.
He rubbed the aloe vera on the burn. He continued to rub her arm and hand not wanting to stop touching her. Sara momentarily closed her eyes, letting herself relish how good it felt to have him touching her again. He couldn't resist, he leaned in and kissed her neck. "Umm you taste soo good." He growled out.
"Don't tempt me," Sara begged him in a whisper. She squeezed her eyes shut and sighed a little. "We'll continue after breakfast. Promise." She turned around and kissed him lightly.
Damn breakfast! On the plus side she looks really sexy stirring that batter. "Alright." He moved away from her. "What do you want me to do?"
"How about you pl...." she shook her head. "I'll do it." Sara began softly humming a Billie Holliday song as she began putting batter on the iron.
“So what do I get to do?" He snickered, "Watch?" A smile was his only answer as she continued singing. "You know you have a beautiful voice, somewhat Angelic." He did not mean to say it. He bit his lip to prevent anymore from coming out.
Sara blushed a little as she leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Thanks."
"You are more than welcome." I’ll show you how much more later.
"How many waffles would you like, Griss?"
"Probably two that is my usual number. I sometimes have the frozen ones."
Learn something' new all the time. She passed over two waffles and put on more for herself.
He dressed them and took a bite. "I thought the pancakes were good, but I think I was wrong, these are amazing. Where did you learn to cook?"
"Mara," she admitted, blushing a little more.
"I'll have to thank her someday." He took another bite. "Will there be enough for me to have more?"
"Think so." Sara was momentarily distracted by Grissom's comment. Baby, you have no idea how much Mara is responsible for. No idea at all.
"I'll wait until you eat yours until I have some more." He chewed the last bite. "I could always nibble on you in the meantime." His grin grew.
Sara hadn't been listening. She was occupied with her thoughts. His voice brought her back. "Hm?"
He got up behind her and whispered in her ear softly, "What were you thinking about?" He kissed her neck lightly.
"You and how much of a distraction you are."
He laughed out loud. "I'm still hungry." He nipped at the flesh on her neck.
Sara took a piece of waffle and stuck it in his mouth. "Here."
He chewed it. "That's not the hungry I was talking about." He waited for her reaction.
A coy smile played on her lips. "I know." He kissed her lips savouring them and then turned to go sit back down. “Soon, baby," Sara, said a little softer.
"I know...” He rubbed the back of his neck.
Sara got up out of her chair, feeling sorry for him. "Sure you want more to eat right now? You look like you're suffering." She gently rubbed his neck, trying to relieve some of the tension.
"Would you be offended if I wanted to skip more waffles?" He turned to look at her. “Ummm..feels so good" Her touch was so soft.
She whispered in his ear, "You're more important."
He clenched the small box in his pocket and leaned into her massage. "Sara feels so good."
She kissed his neck. "Why don't you take your shirt off and get more comfortable?"
He got up, disrobed and walked to the couch. "Out here?"
Sara cleared her throat as soon as she saw Grissom's bare chest. "You comfortable there?"
"I'm comfortable anywhere that you are." He growled closing the gap between them. Sara couldn't resist reaching her hand out and stroking his chest. "Ummmm" he moaned "Maybe we should take this to the bedroom?"
"Yeah..it uh... might make you more comfortable," Sara stammered a little as she took her hand away. He grasped her hand and led her to the bedroom. Sara rearranged the pillows on the bed so Grissom could lie down on his stomach. He contemplated what to do with the box still in his pocket. He didn't want her to find it. He took his pants off and placed them on the chair. Sara swallowed a hard lump in her throat, going to find the bottle of lotion she had seen in Grissom's bathroom. She heard him start to panic when he realized that she wasn't there. He realized she just went to the bathroom and got comfortable propped up on pillows on his stomach.
Sara kissed his shoulder blade as she settled herself down beside him. Shivers ran through his body. Nobody had ever paid this much attention to him. She opened the bottle and squirted a small amount of lotion on her hands. She then began massaging. She started at his neck and slowly worked down.
"Err mmm. Feels soo good."
"Try to relax, Griss," Sara said softly.
He let his thoughts overcome him and his mind wander. Sara wasn't sure if she liked this, but she's the one that wanted him to do it. She sighed and continued massaging.
"Sara that feels amazing. Did you want me to give you one when you are done?"
"I'll take a rain check."
"Oh." He was hurt
This is about you....not me. Sara kissed his neck. "I was wondering though. Did you want to spend today with me?"
"I thought you'd never ask." Sara fell silent again, wondering if telling him not to massage her had been a mistake. "What did you want to do, its our last day in Vegas."
"I was thinking about that. How would you feel about dinner and dancing?"
"Oh"
Sara's free hand went over to Grissom's, hoping that she wasn't crossing the boundary. "You look like you could use that massage if you still want it," Sara added softly.
