Chapter 21
The next day Chloe was released from the hospital with strict instructions on how to take care of herself properly while pregnant and how to take the pills, which were prenatal vitamins, that were given to her along with some books and other documents on pregnancy. The doctor quickly made another appointment for her in a few months and told her if anything else went wrong to come back immediately. Which Oliver said he would make sure everything said was followed to the T.
Right when she got back to the apartment Oliver ordered her to bed and wouldn’t hear no for an answer. For the next couple weeks Oliver had workers alongside Victor fixing the security. He tried to put precautions set up for Zod/Lex but Chloe wouldn’t let him fearing if Clark every came back he wouldn’t be able to come through. So Oliver said instead he would have guards that carried regular guns as well as green kryptonite dart guns for if they ever saw Zod/Lex but they would only shoot if he was doing something to harm her. Oliver also hired a midwife for Chloe so she wouldn’t be alone at the apartment when she got farther along. Even though Chloe protested heavily most of Oliver’s actions she finally conceded thinking about what was best for her baby.
Two months later found a just beginning to show Chloe walking with her midwife Belle down to the café for some tea because she was out and hadn’t gone to the store yet. She was planning on going tomorrow. Everyone congratulated her and asked her if they could feel her tummy. She mostly said no but every once in a while if they caught her in a gracious mood she would say yes.
The world was speculating that Oliver was the father of her child seeing as he’s the one that redid her home, bought the floors below and always seemed to be around her. She tried to tell the few reporters that got passed Oliver’s security it wasn’t true that he was just a very protective and over concerned friend. Now that the real father was gone he had taken over the role of helping her out and being there for her when she needed it but the world wouldn’t believe it. So finally Oliver and Chloe both agreed to let the world think what they wanted and it would die down sooner or later.
Her appointment with the doctor was the day after tomorrow and she was going to find out what was going on with her baby, if it was healthy, what she needed to do and all that. She was hoping to learn from Dr. Hamilton if her baby had powers or not already. That was one thing that really scared her more than anything else. Belle had been briefed on Chloe’s case and didn’t seem to mind the special circumstances and always tried to calm Chloe’s anxieties after she woke up from one nightmare or another.
As Chloe’s pregnancy went on, her dreams seemed to be getting creepier and it was beginning to freak her out. She needed to know if her child had powers, not that she would hate them for it, more like she was afraid what would happen to him or her after they were born if they had powers already from birth.
The day of the appointment found a scared and anxious Chloe walking into the doctor’s office a little before the appointment time with Belle and Bart who had wanted to come along. After waiting about 15 minutes Chloe was called back and taken into the exam room where Dr. Clear Moon showed up maybe a few minutes later.
“Hello, Chloe how have you been feeling since our last appointment?” stated Dr. Clear Moon as she sat down.
“Fine, like I’m eating everything in sight and getting fatter by the second but I guess that’s to be expected huh.”
“Yes, well weight gain is a symptom of pregnancy as to support the new life,” Dr. Clear Moon replied with a laugh.
With that Dr. Clear Moon gave her the normal pregnancy evaluation with slight variations when it came to her special case and not knowing what was going on with the baby completely. Everything seemed to be on track and normal. Just as the first part of the exam got done Dr. Hamilton came in saying, “Chloe, I’d like to take some blood from you and your baby so I need you to stay calm. I need to see if the baby is reacting to your emotions or if you’re making the protections because of emotions.”
“Okay, Dr. Hamilton I’m calm as I’m ever gonna be so if anything happens it’ll be the kid.”
“Okay, here it goes,” he said as he pulled blood from her arm and then went to pull some fluid from the placenta. After the fluid was pulled nothing seemed to be happening but just as Dr. Hamilton went to clean where he had poked her stomach the area glowed gold for a moment and the spot was gone.
Everyone looked at each other and then Chloe began chanting ‘no’ over and over again to the point where Dr. Clear Moon was getting ready to sedate her if she had to, but suddenly Belle got behind Chloe where she was sitting and held her from behind whispering, “nothing will happen to your baby Chloe. Your circumstances are different than Karen Gallagher’s and Evan’s. Calm down your scaring everyone and this isn’t good for the baby.”
“Your right, I know you are but I’m scared,” Chloe replied calming down as Belle released her and moved away so Dr. Clear Moon could check on her.
“Who are Karen and Evan, Chloe?”
“It was something that happened a while ago. Clark and Lana found a baby in Evan’s Field one night after a flash of light surprised them. The flash of light was the baby being born but as they were taking care of the baby he grew from a newborn to a 7-yr. old and then from 7 to 16 with only a few blasts of energy that he stored in his body. The last blast killed him and destroyed the windmill he and Clark were standing on. Karen was the boy’s biological mother, she went to school in Smallville, after the first meteor shower computers or any technology would always short out around her.”
“Ohh, well Chloe as I’ve been told no meteor infected power is the same as the next so you have no reason to fear and besides it seems your baby only has the power to heal and protect itself at the moment. But as he grows and gets older we’ll keep watch ok,” Dr. Clear Moon and Dr. Hamilton said trying to reassure Chloe.
After this little surprise everything seemed to be back to normal so Chloe and the doctors agreed to meet in another month for her second official pregnancy checkup. After that was done Chloe, Belle and Bart left for the apartment where Chloe ate and drank a simple, healthy lunch and then went to lay down as Belle and Bart sat around the kitchen table to talk quietly as to not disturb her.
