Chapter 2
Ch 2
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
"Damn alarm clock." A sleepy Grace mumbled as she looked at the time. She ran her fingers through her thick red hair as she slowly awoke and sat up in bed. Well today's the day, its now or never she thought to herself. She got dressed and headed for the kitchen where the smell of pancakes reached her nostrils.
"Hello Grace!" A perky Will said to her as he handed her a plate of freshly made pancakes.
"God, I love your pancakes" She started to cut into them when it came to her. She hurried into the fridge and poured herself a nice tall glass of milk. "Now I can eat" she said cheerfully.
She gobbled down her pancakes and gave Will her morning peck as she placed the dishes in the sink and headed out the door.
Will looked up as he heard the door open. Sitting at the table sipping coffee Will started to arise. "Forget something?" A baffled Will said to the frozen Grace.
But Grace just stood there gawking at the handsome man. Realizing the awkwardness of the whole situation she managed to spit out a few words about forgetting her portfolio, quickly grabbing it, and shutting the beh behind her. But what Will didn't know is that she hadn't forgotten her portfolio. She wanted to get a second look at him. She loved to watch him. Every once in a while she would sneak into his room at night and just watch him sleep. She loved to see his chest rise and fall in a steady pace. She could almost imagine lying there next to him in her own sweet slumber. But most of the time she would snap out of her trance and return to her room.
Her thoughts of Will soon disappeared as she reached her office. She opened the door to find Karen sitting at her desk with the usual routine. She did her make up, talked on the phone and then maybe if she didn't take an early lunch break, she would eventually get some work done.
"Good morning Karen." Grace said to the squeaky voiced woman as she set her portfolio on the desk.
"And what's good about it?" Karen replied sarcastically.
"Apparently nothing, I'm sorry I even said it was good." Grace replied with a hint of sarcasm.
Grace sluggishly moved around the office trying to concentrate on work that needed to get done. She finally sat at her desk and attempted to start on one of her new project. She looked through various magazines trying to get new ideas. If she was going to redecorate a kitchen and living room, she would need lots of ideas. She tried to focus but she couldn't take her mind off what the night had in store. She bit nervously at her pen as she flipped through the pages and periodically she would place sticky notes on things she considered for the clients home.
“Well, Jack is going to join us for lunch!” Karen said enthusiastically.
Grace simply nodded in reply. She hated going to lunch with Karen and Jack. Every time she would go to eat with them anywhere she would always get stuck with the tab. It never failed.
At the restaurant the three sat talking at random intervals. Most of the chatting was done by Karen and Jack. Grace casually added her input here and there. The red head poked at her salad and forked a small amount of it into her mouth. She chewed silently as she stared off into space. Before she knew it the bill was in her hands and she was handing the waiter her credit card. She sighed as the expected was revealed. Jack and Karen were no where to be found. She took her credit card and headed back to the office.
Time flew once she got to work on her new project and before she knew it she was getting in her car to go home. On the drive home she started to wonder about her feelings for Will. When did she fall in love with Will? How was she going to tell him when he asked her where and when and how all this hned?ned? She started to think back to that time. When was it? Ah. It was a couple months back. They were sitting at dinner, one of their favorite restaurants.
It started to come back to her. It was her. It was what she asked him, his answer. The way he looked at her. The way that he touched her hand. He touched her heart with his words.
“If you could marry anyone in the whole world who would it be?” Grace looked at Will and smiled. Taking her hand and looking into her eyes he said “I would have to marry my best friend. If I were straight I would have to marry you.”
That was it. When he said those words. When he held her hand and looked at her like that she fell in love with him. She knew it had always been there. She just couldn’t admit to it. She didn’t want it to be true. She knew that he could never love her. He wasn’t attracted to females. She was too afraid to express her feelings or even let herself have those kind of feelings towards him. But what would he feel if she told him? The only way to find out was to tell him. She decided that she was going to tell him after Greg left. It was now or never.
Authors Note: Sorry if this is too slow. It might be a short story. This is the first time I have ever written a story so bear with me...lol. hope you like.
