The Apology

BJ hadn’t known what to expect when he arrived, but this? It was never even on the list of outcomes he thought would happen. He had to catch his breath before asking, “You want us to be friends again? Because I don’t know… what I said was kinda wrong…”

The blue-eyed mild-mannered boy broke in. “I know that’s too much to deal with. I want it. But, no, I didn’t invite you here to ask, or beg. I do dream about it. I dream of not having to live a lie, if not in public. I dream of holding you forever in heaven. But I also know that dorks like me might not be allowed there. Popular, outgoing guys like you are.”

BJ had not absorbed his words before Bobby leaned in for a kiss that was deep as it was sweet and sensual.

Then, in an instant, he was gone, and the ringing was back in his ears again. More voices. Men and women in muddled garbled sentences, talking as if BJ couldn’t hear them but whispering in case he did. The snapping of the porch light switch caught Bobby’s attention and the ringing stopped.

“I heard about you and Bobby getting into a fight last week,” Bobby heard Jack talking curtly to somebody as he slowly descended downstairs. “He’s still pissed over what went down at lunch he says. I’m told you both got detention for it and he never even knew that you feel just as bad about it. Guess you may still have a second chance after all Bongaro.”
