Saving money and secrets
Puzzled and tired Dean twisted the lower half of his body so that he was sitting at the edge of his bed facing his brother, "What is it?" Dean questioned. He could see the bothered look in Sams face accompanied with a subtle glisten of worry in his eyes. He was no stranger to that familiar emotion Sam had painted across the human canvas above his collar, it was like those reruns on TV that will go into a continuous cycle every month and once it was over it would begin again. A few minutes had passed with the younger brother still sitting in with his idle mind twiddling his thumbs, "Damn it Sam what!?" Dean snapped standing up to look down at the distant sibling beneath him.
Sam glared up at him and stood straight up as well with his fists tightly clenched, "I'm leaving." Wiping the remnants of a deep REM sleep from his eyes Dean gave his brother a cold stare, "The hell?" He stood up and pushed Sam back onto the bed so that he was sitting back down and so that Sam was able to look up at his older brother, Sam could feel that deep down Dean would want him to sit there and take notes from every word that would escape from Deans lips but the thought of him getting up from bed to stand up to his older brother only to be pushed back with Dean taking the stand probably looked silly from someone elses point of view, the thought made him chuckle in his mind but he was smart enough to hold it in.
"Where are you going to go huh? You can't just ditch and expect everything to just fall into place once you walk out that door, don't be a dumb ass!" Dean scoffed.
Gritting his teeth Sam stood back up and walked off pulling his gym bag out from under the bed swinging it over his shoulder, "There's a bus leaving in two hours.." The truth was again thrown back into the darkest part of Sams mind where he could no longer reach it, he didn't want to tell Dean, not like this and not in this state. All the arguing had led up to this moment anyway he thought, what would telling Dean the truth accomplish? Dean buried his face in his hand wiping it down with the septum of his nose wrinkled into his hand. "You can't do this to me kid.." He said to himself as he watched Sams shadow disappear into the winding hallway that led out of their room. "Fuck it.." He muttered, he knew deep down that once Sam was walking he would already have a hard time finding him but this time was different he could feel it. The older male jumped into a pair of dark faded jeans pulling the zipper and buckling his belt as fast as he could, he threw on whatever shirt was nearby and poured all of his belongings into the gym bag.
Once out of the building Dean scanned the streets on both his left and right side, nothing.. He knew he couldn't have gotten far he couldn't have, if anything he was probably standing around the corner of the next street waiting for a taxi or a bus to pick him up to wherever he was going. The 4 AM fog from the lakes nearby were starting to cloud up the view a few yards away, the sun was partly poking out of the peak of the street in the distance signaling the dawn of a new day which in Deans mind was probably going to be quite an eventful one.
Like a prophecy fulfilled there stood Sam kicking his feet and twirling his body around in a waiting stance with his bag flailing behind his back. Every noise they both made echoed through the narrow alleys beside them, the sky changing from a dark black to a gentle violet dimming the bright street lights.
"Hey.." Dean said quietly dropping his gym bag to his feet, both his hands dug deep into his pocket. "Dude, you're not going anywhere alone.."
Sam sighed and looked into his older brothers hazel orbs searching in his own mind for an excuse to keep him away, "You can't.." he simply replied.
"Why not?"
Sam winced a bit, he couldn't have Dean come along and open doors that just aren't meant to be open at least not yet.. He couldn't bear the thought of something slipping and hurting his brothers feelings.
"This is just, just me growing up, grabbing life by the horns one crazy decision at a time. If I don't end up going to college then I'm just going to drift.."
"That's fucking crazy." Dean barked, "You keep your wallet closed, we're taking the Impala and I'm driving you to that college myself even if I have to tie you up and throw you in the trunk!"
Before Sam could shoot a response back he felt a hand tug his jacket and pull him along the sidewalk, Dean left no time for Sam to make excuses for to leave on his own and he made sure of that by blocking out Sams voice with loud grunts.
Once in the '67 Chevy Impala Sam felt defeated, he couldn't help but think of how close he was to telling Dean, how close he was to escaping Dean, and now it was back to what he was trying to avoid. He knew that he had to somehow avoid any conversation about what happened early, how Sam blanked out and made an excuse to hide the truth, a really bad excuse which now had the consequential scenario of him being driven to a college by Dean for hours, maybe even a day and a night alone.. Right there and then Sam sealed his lips as Dean started the car.
"You just saved yourself forty bucks bro."
Sam glared up at him and stood straight up as well with his fists tightly clenched, "I'm leaving."
