Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Chloe’s Dream

“Chloe awoke with a start to find herself in the Fortress, but it wasn’t the present day Fortress that was all black and death-like, it was the Fortress before Brainiac and Doomsday, the Fortress before her wedding. As she rose up from where she lay on a table like structure of White Kryptonian crystals she was reaching to pull her heavy coat around her thinking she must have been knocked out by something but found she wasn’t wearing her coat. Causing her to notice for the first time that it wasn’t freezing in the Fortress, which made her also notice the bone-chilling cold wind and snow that Jor-el usually created when anyone but someone from the El family whom were Clark and his cousin Kara, came into the Fortress wasn’t blowing at all.

“What was going on?” Chloe thought to herself as she walked around the Fortress looking for Clark.

“Clark! Clark where are you?! Come on Superboy I know you can hear me. Where are you? This hide and seek routine may have been funny when you were five and could hide in the next state over, but you’re 22 years old buddy its gotten old. Now where in the world did you get to? Clark!”

Just then Chloe felt a rush of air, expecting Clark to be behind her because the rush of air was his signature; or at least that’s how she thought of the breeze he created wherever he super-sped, she turned saying, “Well it took you long enough…” but her words were cut off when she found not Clark in front of her but Davis. But this wasn’t the Davis she had come to know it was Doomsday the monster that had crashed her wedding to Jimmy, kidnapped her, taken her the Fortress where Brainiac took her over completely and was out to do one thing…destroy! Destroy this world, destroy Clark.

“Davis….what are you doing….where’s Clark?” Chloe said stepping back a bit from fear but trying to stay calm.

“The other Kryptonian is dead. And you are mine now!” Doomsday growled.

“What?! No!” Chloe screamed trying to rush past Davis/Doomsday but he grabbed her wrist turning her back to him.

“You’re MINE! NOT HIS!”

That’s when she saw it and her breath just left her body. Clark’s destined soul mate’s bracelet was on her right wrist. Its 2”wide, 6” wrist pure silver looking like two bracelets were made one with their centers taken out so the gold-lining could wrap around the 1/2” turquoise diamond shaped stone being held in the center by a 1/4” thick silver strip through the center catching the sunlight shining off the crystals of the Fortress.

“This has to be a dream. A very weird, confusing, bad dream…” Chloe kept telling herself as she looked at the bracelet and not the Kryptonian monster who was at the moment transforming back into Chloe’s friend Davis Bloom.

Once Davis was his human-self he grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled the bracelet off her wrist crushing it in front of her eyes saying, “You’re mine now! You won’t where the symbol of another ever again!”

This wasn’t the Davis she knew, this was the monster he feared taking over. The real Davis, her Davis wouldn’t kill. He helped people just like his Kryptonian brother, Clark. “Where was Clark? Clark had to be nearby. He always was? All she had to do was call him.” With that thought she screamed his name out in fear of what this Doomsday/Davis had just said and hoping with everything in her it was wrong.

As she watched the crushed bracelet fall to the floor of the Fortress and felt her heart break along with it she noticed no Clark showing up she heard someone yell her name. When she turned her face to see who it was she saw Clark standing there breathing hard, beaten badly, and holding his bleeding abdomen. She found her heart soaring once again but when she went to try and help him she found Davis wouldn’t let her go. She tried to fight Davis’s hands off her but she couldn’t. What was her human strength against a Kryptonian monster? As she screamed for Clark, she watched as he fell to the ground and as his breath began to slow and then stop completely.

And as she watched him take his last breath Davis let her go and laughed as she ran to Clark’s side, trying to heal him but when she couldn’t she just held him to her as tightly as she could. As Davis’ laughs began to deafen her from their echoing through the Fortress they stopped and when she raised her head to see why what she did see shocked her. She was in the middle of a war zone, that’s what it had to be. Destroyed and burnt buildings, torn up roads and land. The sky black with smoke and fires burning in some places still. Crushed cars and worst of all bloody and mutilated bodies of innocent people everywhere. This all had to be a war zone, a war zone from a movie not real life it couldn’t be real life, but as she looked around she saw the Daily Planet’s globe laying not 25 feet away burnt but still in one piece and she knew she wasn’t in the middle of a war zone from a movie but real life, Metropolis after Clark and Doomsday had fought and Doomsday had won over the world’s Superhero sent here just for them. Her worst fear had come to be. The world…she had lost Clark and Davis had fulfilled his dark, evil destiny.”

With a scream on her lips Chloe sat up in bed. “Where was she? This wasn’t her apartment bedroom? Where was Clark?” She was just about to scream for Clark’s help when a heavy hand landed on her shoulder and a deep voice hit her ears asking if she was alright. Then it hit her like a slap from Clark’s hand on her cheek sending her flying into a wall. Clark was back in Smallville probably looking all over for her and Davis. Davis, she had run away with Davis hoping that getting away from Clark and Smallville while having her with him would help Davis control the monster within him. After he had attacked Oliver and Jimmy a few weeks ago. After Clark had tried to send Davis to the Phantom Zone and she had stopped him. She was trying to save both of her guys and by saving the one she had to leave the other. It had killed her inside but she was doing what was right.

She was doing what she had to for the greater good. She was doing what she had to protect…to save Clark…the world.

“She had to at least try, right?” And as she turned to the man in the one-bed motel room she smiled trying to hide her sadness and said, “Yeah I’m fine. Just a bad headache. I’m going to go get some water from the bathroom and take a few pills go back to sleep Davis I’ll be fine. I’ll be back in a minute.”

With that she grabbed a glass from the little kitchen area and a pill bottle from her purse and headed to the bathroom as Davis lay back in the bed. She closed the door to the bathroom, turned on the water in the sink, got some water to take her pills and took them, but as she was setting the glass down on the sink she looked in the mirror for a second and froze. She didn’t recognize herself and she began to cry. As the water in the sink continued to run, she cried.
