Prologue

Airwolf Rule the World

1990 October

Prologue

For the hundredth time that night Hawke paced the cabins polished oak floor and looked at his watch, he checked the oven, everything was fine, the trout’s he had caught on Eagle Lake earlier were gently being steamed in the wood burning stove in the cabin’s kitchen. The vegetables were simmering away. He walked behind the bar counter and checked the sophisticated computer that was the new security system for the cabin. All the lights were green. He looked at his watch again, it had only been five minutes since he last checked it.

He walked back over to the open fire that was roaring away and put a couple more logs on for it to consume, he hoped it was warm enough. Tet refused to move from his customary position on the hearth and just used his eyes to watch his master move around the cabin, all day his master had been busy around the cabin, moving things, cleaning things. He then watched his master walk up the stairs to the loft and give the fire a poke up there and put more logs on that one. Hawke stood looking down into the cabin from the loft, surveying the cabin, triple checking everything. His ears diverted his glance to the roof. Someone was coming.

The helicopter’s engines could be heard and Hawke was already at the cabin door and walked out to the porch. He watched the FIRM’s armoured battleship helicopter land and as the engines whirred down, the rotors slowed. In the dusky light Hawke made out two males get out first, one carrying a bag. Both of the men paused before opening the pilots door and allowed the pilot to get out.

Hawke walked down to the dock, his walk went into a jog as he saw Kristien walk towards him, she also broke from a walk to a small jog and as they got close Kristien jumped into his awaiting arms and he held onto her. His lips found hers and he kissed her hard and full. God he had missed her. The embrace continued and Hawke, got very passionate with her, his tongue tasting her and explored her mouth, his hands affectionately rubbing her body, holding her close. He never expected her ever to return to the Cabin, but here she was.

If only he could just keep her there, forever.

“Wow, if you do this just with a week apart I would hate to see what you would do with a month.” Kristien replied savouring the passionate embrace.

“Jeez a month, we would do pay per view for that.” Carsten nudged Redwood.

Special Agent Redwood raised his eyebrow at Special Agents Carstens out spoken whisper. Both of them looked at Hawke as he stared at them hard, obviously he had picked up their whispering. Hawke held out his hand and motioned Carsten to give him Kristien’s overnight bag.

Carsten held the bag to Hawke. “So you crashed it, eh Hawke?” Carsten chuckled with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Hawke snatched the bag from Carsten and gave him a deep piercing look which Carsten totally ignored. He loved rubbing Hawke up the wrong way.

“Boys play nice.” Kristien couldn’t believe it after Carsten had promised on the Concorde charter flight over that he wouldn’t rile Hawke about breaking Airwolf. When Carsten took a bullet for Kristien and subsequently Kristien was taken by Byron, Hawke joined forces with Carsten to deal out revenge on Bryon. It appeared then that finally Hawke and Carsten were getting along. But the performance between the men was short lived. The fact that Kristien nearly died had brought them to work together, to get on with one common goal, but once achieved they both returned to their immense dislike for each other.

Carsten ignored Hawke’s mood and got straight to business and picked up his radio and checked in with the Navy SEALS who were deployed around the woods near the Cabin. Although they had all resigned from Secret Service when the Presidential Orders came through over the complaint from Saudi, the White House had reinstated them, even though Archangel had created another section for them to work under for the FIRM. Carsten enjoyed having every agency in the World at his beck and call. He revelled in it!

“Eagle one at base camp.” Carsten depressed the button and awaited the reply.

“Affirmative, in position and await your arrival.” The male voice replied.

“Right that’s our cue.” Carsten looked at Kristien. “We will go monitor everything from the SEALS camp.” He handed Kristien a P-90. “You stick to the plan and everything will be fine.” He assured her. Kristien looked directly at her protection bodyguard and despite feeling a little scared his reassurance did help. After all Carsten did take a bullet for her during the Minotaur hand over to Byron.

Carsten looked at Hawke and pointed a finger directly at him. “You owe me. Again.” He reminded him before he walked off.

Hawke watched Carsten and Redwood disappear up the wooded path to the left of the cabin. Hawke kept his arm around Kristien and walked her up to the clearing in front of the cabin. Kristien stopped in her tracks as she saw the cabin and the open door. She froze. Hawke felt her dealing with the last time that she was here. The kidnapping seven years previous. With the recent abduction to Dubawi and brutal rape she endured, maybe this was a little too much for her. Hawke brushed his lips over hers so tenderly. He wanted her to deal with her ghosts and demons in her own time.

“Come in when you are ready.” Hawke gently whispered in her ear and he walked away into the cabin, he went upstairs to the loft and put Kristien’s bag next to the bed and he wandered down again and went direct to the kitchen. Kristien watched through the open door. She took a deep breath in through her nose and exhaled through her mouth and tried to move. Her feet were not obeying her. She turned around and looked around at the dimming light, the lake with its crystal toped waves with the half moon’s light. She closed her eyes and smelled the air, everything returned about this place, nothing had changed, the mountain with its’ snow topped peak, the fresh scent of the pine woods, the gentle lapping of the waves on the lake coming to shore, the memories good and bad. Tet had walked out and placed his head under her loose hand and nudged her for attention. Kristien dropped to her knees. “Tet! Hello boy how are you?” She stroked him all over and paid particular attention to his big floppy ears. He loved that. He sat his aging body down in front of Kristien and remembered her from the last time she was here. Tet felt the coldness of the evening air on his old body and decided that it was time to go back and place himself in front of the roaring fire, preferably with Kristien stroking his ears.

He turned and trotted up to the porch and stood waiting for Kristien and when she didn’t move he started to whine at her quite loudly and he kept looking at the open door and then back to Kristien. He didn’t understand why she would want to stand outside when there was a warm fire to share with him.

“Hmmm if I didn’t know better I would say you were trained to do that.” Kristien told him. She didn’t want to rush herself but at the same time she couldn’t stand out in the cold all night, plucking up the courage to over come her painful memories both recent and past. If she stood there much longer Carsten and Redwood would return to see what was wrong.

Tet sat down on the porch, convinced he should be looking after her and wagged his tail from side to side and gave a large ‘woof’ to her for extra encouragement.

Hawke was sorting out the meal and he smiled and looked over to the open door and saw Tet on the porch encouraging Kristien to come in. He looked out through the cabin window and saw Kristien still stood in the clearing. He wiped his hands on a tea towel and threw it to one side. He walked out from the cabin and patted Tet on his head.

“Good boy.” Hawke told him and he strode confidently towards Kristien. “I’ll bring her in for you.”

“I am coming…….” Kristien bit her bottom lip when she saw Hawke coming towards her.

He put his hands in hers and just brushed his lips over hers and went to her ear. “I know you are.” Hawke picked her up in his muscular arms. Kristien put her arms around his neck and looked into his eyes which had a small playful twinkle in them. “I promise you everything is going to be alright.” Hawke had spent a lot of time talking to Alfred about Kristien, learning how to handle her very complex painful memories and how to avoid any repeat of the night tremors that she had started again.

Hawke strode forward with Kristien in his arms and he walked into the cabin. Tet followed inside and using his foot Hawke kicked the door shut. He looked into Kristien’s eyes and saw her fear. He had never seen Kristien fearful before, vulnerable maybe when he found her bleeding to death in the Palace in Dubawi after her brother beat and raped her, but not fearful.

“You want to go up to the loft?” Hawke smiled at her, hoping to divert her fear.

Kristien looked directly at him. “I have been here less than five minutes and you are already trying to get into my pants.”

“I meant to freshen up before we eat, but if you want to make love right away we can.” He joked playfully with her and looked at her in his arms.

“Oh.” Kristien again bit her bottom lip and took a deep breath. After her charter flight on Concorde and then the short helicopter ride from LAX to Hawke’s cabin, she could do with throwing some cold water on her face.

Hawke gently brushed his lips over hers, teasing her. “So up you go and dinner is in ten minutes.” He placed Kristien down and he watched her go to the stairs, she looped the P-90 on the wooden post and then went up the wooden stairs, looking at the art collection as she went up. Tet realising Kristien was off up stairs, flew into action and ran up the stairs behind her and followed her into the bathroom. He loved having Kristien about again. It had been a long time since he saw her and despite his very advancing years he remembered her.

Hawke was just serving up when he saw Kristien walk down the stairs dressed in one of his shirts. He smiled as she walked over to the kitchen and perched herself on one of the stools at the breakfast bar. Hawke fought off the tears of happiness as he saw that she was starting to relax. Kristien watched as he took over the tureens for the vegetables and placed them on the candle lit table. He returned to the kitchen and picked up the steamed trout’s on their beds of rice. He stood at the captains’ chair and beckoned for Kristien to be seated. She wandered over and Hawke looked at her bare legs, his shirt on her coming half way down her thighs, his mind started to wander and his male instincts arose. Hawke seated her and he sat next to her. He watched her just help herself to a small amount, her appetite still hadn’t returned after the operation to save her life nine weeks before.

Kristien loaded her fork up with the trout and savoured the taste. She had missed this.

“I thought Dominic and Cait would have been here.” Kristien told him between bites, her eyes wandering about the cabin taking in Hawke’s beautiful art collection. Right from her first meeting with Hawke, Kristien adored the collection of rare art work that Hawke’s Grandfather had collected for his wife. Kristien herself, had hundreds of rare pieces herself. Her Fifteenth century house was adorned with rare art collected by various Dukes before her. Even Kristien’s Grandfather, concerned about his daughters marriage to an Arab Sheik wanted the Dukedom and all what went with the title to remain in England and went to great lengths at bypassing Bryon and giving it all to Kristien, with the Queen’s approval of course.

Hawke filled up his goblet of wine and took a mouthful. “Well I haven’t told them you were coming.” He put the bottle down. “I want you all to myself anyway tonight.” Hawke took a few more mouthfuls of the steamed trout. “Besides Carsten said tell no one.” Hawke said knowing that Carsten was probably listening in.

“Since when do you do as you are told especially from Carsten?” Kristien smiled and she started to push the food round on her plate.

“There’s always the first time.” Hawke smiled at her, watching her push the food about. Surely she wasn’t full already? “I have got your favourite desert in the oven.” He tempted her. Alfred had given Hawke strict instructions on how to handle Kristien’s recent fussy food fads that had developed, due to the pregnancy and the operation.

Kristien’s face lit up. “Really?” Kristien said half not wanting to eat anymore but part of her thinking she may have a midnight feast.

“I thought you could have it when you were looking over the reprogramming for Airwolf.” Hawke explained.

“Reprogramming? Is that what you call getting hit by a missile now?” Kristien put down her fork and took a sip of her orange juice. “Only you could bloody break the infernal machine?” She told him with a playful tone but also a small telling off too.

“Why thank you.” Hawke took a little bow at the table and smiled at her. He placed his fork down after finishing his meal. He looked at her as her eyes were wandering around the cabin looking at his art collection, absorbing it. “You go and sit down and I will do the dishes.”

Kristien’s eyes came back to Hawke. “I’ll give you a hand.” Kristien stood up and started to clear the dishes. Hawke calmly put his hands on hers and stopped her.

“I have my orders from Alfred.” Hawke smiled at her. “Go and put your feet up.”

Kristien paused and wanted to protest, but let it drop and walked over to the window box and pulled out a blanket and paused looking at the Gaugain painting absorbing the brush strokes of the portrait of the young girl in it. After refreshing her memory on the Gaugain she went over to Hawke’s book case and picked out a couple of first editions to read.

The dishes sat draining on the rack next to the sink and Hawke walked over with his wine goblet and bottle. Kristien was sat with her legs on the sofa with a blanket covering them. Tet was laid against the sofa next to Kristien fast asleep. Kristien had one of Hawke’s first editions on her lap and she was already three quarters of the way through having scanned it in the short time Hawke was doing the dishes. Hawke stood next to Kristien and she moved forward and Hawke sat in the space behind her and made himself comfortable, Kristien shifted position and laid down, using Hawke’s lap as a pillow and carried on reading. Hawke switched the lamp out which was connected to the main lights in the cabin, making a romantic ambience with the low lights and the firelight. Hawke sipped his wine and his hand lifted the shirt that Kristien had borrowed from him and he placed his hand on her small twenty three week pregnant bump. He could feel a small fluttering from the baby as it moved about inside of her. Kristien finished the book and placed it down on the coffee table and she closed her eyes, savouring the tender moment between her and Hawke.

Hawke allowed his hand descend from her small bump down under the blanket, where he found that she wasn’t wearing any underwear. A small smile appeared on his lips as he brought his other hand over and started to open the buttons. Again to his surprise she had only two buttons done up. With these undone he slipped the shirt open, revealing her full firm breasts. As if on cue, Kristien gently kicked the blanket from her legs, showing him her naked body, which glowed with the orange fire light opposite. He adored looking at her naked body, holding it, caressing it and kissing it. Most of the time he would love just to do that, but Kristien had a very large sexual craving, he swore sometimes it was an addiction, and she always wanted to make love. Hawke had noticed that if they had been apart for a time whether it be twenty four hours or longer, she would often seduce him, usually very hard and fast. Then after that ‘getting down to business’ had satisfied the cravings she would give herself to him, to allow him the pleasure of tasting her and he would chose how to do that. True when he was inside her, there wasn’t a feeling quite like it, it was so unique the emotion they created together.

“You’re naked.” He whispered to her.

“Mmmmmhhhh.” She sighed. “Which means you are over dressed.” She whispered and she put her hands over her head and deftly undid his shirt. Hawke pulled it from his body and dropped it to the oak floor and by the time he had done that, Kristien had already unbuttoned his jeans releasing his hard penis from its restraints. Her hands still above her head, started to stroke his erect manhood and he took deep breaths to keep himself calm. The week that had separated them, was a lot for him to bear especially since they had only just started to make love again after Kristien’s brutal beating and rape from her brother. Just as he was trying to regain control, he looked down at her with her arms over her head and for a split second he saw Kristien’s restrained wrists, chained and her bloody body during the rape. His heart raced and he took an involuntary gasp of air. Without thinking he instinctively grabbed her wrists and held them down. He didn’t remember how, but he was now on top of her and he forced open her legs and thrust himself inside of her. He was savage.

“String?” Kristien was kneeling on the sofa, next to him, she was still wearing his shirt.

Hawke looked at her so disorientated. He looked around the cabin frantically, taking short, sharp breaths. “Kristie?” He gasped and then realising where he was, he threw his arms around her and held her tight. Hawke was struggling deep inside.

“Well this is different falling asleep on me.” Kristien replied and then as he held her tightly. “String, breathing becoming an issue here.” Kristien’s body was healing well but occasionally she had twinges and certainly being held this tight and with the baby growing, her diaphragm struggled a lot of the time.

Hawke relaxed his tight hug on her and she sat on his lap her arms around his neck. He was still clothed. Nothing made sense. Did he just try to force her? What the fuck happened? For a moment he felt he was Bryon. Hawke felt sick.

“Kristie, what happened? You ok?” He whispered and he looked at her in his arms, the shirt she was wearing was open and he struggled to put out the graphic images of her rape from his troubled mind. He saw the discarded blanket to the side and reached out and tried to put it on her. Kristien gently pushed the blanket from her body. She was already hot from the roaring fire and did not want to be any hotter.

“You fell asleep, that’s what happened.” Kristien was a bit frustrated. “I lay here wanting you, you have an open invitation here and then you fall asleep on me. Never had that before.”

Hawke looked at her. He could feel her hot wet desire on his lap through his jeans. His hard penis stuck in his tight jeans, urging him that this was not comfortable and there was a much better place if only he would get undressed. “You had undressed me.” He told her very confused.

Kristien looked at him with a puzzled face. “Er, no I was laid out and you were touching me like you do and then you fell asleep on me.”

Hawke looked at her still quite disorientated. “I thought you had your hands over your head.”

Kristien looked at him quite stunned and scared. “Not funny.” She told him with a serious tone and she pushed his hands from her and stood up. “You know I am not healed enough to even get my arms above my shoulders, let alone my head, you know from being chained up to a wall for several hours does that to you.” Sadly he did know, having been captured in Nam. Kristien walked off across the cabin floor and was going to the sanctuary of the loft when Hawke called to her.

“Kristie.” He pleaded with her.

“String, the whole point about storming off is just that, what do they call it in films making a dramatic exit?” She spoke with a mixture of sadness and frustration still facing the stairs. “I need to be……well…….dramatic.” And she shrugged her shoulders and held out her hands in the air in front of her as if she was having the conversation in front of him.

Hawke walked up behind her, he had discarded his shirt and jeans. His hard penis touched her first and she shuddered with instant desire, and he wrapped his arms under her outstretched arms and crossed his hands over her breasts, her nipples becoming hard with his merest touch and he nestled his nose in her shoulder and kissed it lightly, his naked body rubbing up against her half dressed body. Kristien gently turned around in his arms and looked at him allowing the shirt to slip from her body.

“I want to be dramatic.” She insisted, still wanting to go up to the loft to try to deal with the fact that Hawke had awoken her graphic injuries to her and to lick her wounds about having him fall asleep on her and to be disappointed that she wanted so desperately to orgasm the suspense was killing her waiting for it..

Hawke placed his hands around her lower back and lifted her up and as she wrapped her legs around his firm buttocks, his hard penis entered her hot, wet awaiting desire. As she felt him enter, she let out a small gentle satisfying moan into his ear, which pleased him no end. “Is this dramatic enough?” He asked her as he kissed her full and hard.

Kristien’s legs clamped around him tighter, pushing him deeper inside her, their lust driving them towards their orgasm, Hawke broke off the kiss and couldn’t believe he was buying into this meaningless sex but he didn’t care. This lustful wave of just wanting to come there and then. He brought her over to the sofa and sat down, and he gently laid back watching her to move up and down on his throbbing penis. Somehow he was really deep inside of her, he could feel her cervix.

“Kristie.” Hawke gasped instantly thinking about the baby and wanted to slow her down, to calm her and for him to be on top of her to stop this deep penetrating sex from her on top of him.

Kristien wasn’t stopping for no one and continued with the deep thrusting, completely gone with the moment. This time when he felt her cervix he gave in and climaxed, she let out a small gasp of pain as she came down from her orgasm and she held her small pregnant bump taking small breaths to deal with the pain. Hawke wanted so much for her to get off him, to stop the pain he was inflicting on her, but she was so tight around him. He held her hips and tried to lift her off. She placed a hand on his chest. “No, not yet.” She gasped still clamped on to him, not allowing him to relax either. He looked at her, her body was dripping in sweat although they had only been having sex for less than five minutes, there was no way on this earth Hawke was going to call what had just happened ‘making love’, it was pure lust driven sex.

It seemed like ages before she could move, although her vice like grip had subsided and allowed him to gently fall from her, he wanted to move her before his male instincts recovered and would gladly take her again.

“I think you need a bath to stop those cramps.” He told her. She nodded slowly still taking small breaths. He picked her up in his arms, her arms holding him around his neck and he carried her off upstairs to the bathroom.

Hawke laid in the bath with Kristien on top of him leaning up against him. At first she couldn’t bare him touching her baby bump as the spasms were quite painful but then he started to squeeze the sponge letting the hot bath water trickle over it, she started to relax a little. He didn’t speak to her, just caressed her, kissing the top of her damp head. Part of him wanting to know what the fuck had just happened and the other part not caring and all of him worrying about Kristien and the baby. At twenty three weeks it was far too early for the baby to make an entrance into the outside world, only twenty three percent of premature babies survived at that early stage.

Hawke laid on the bed with Kristien nestled in his arms. He had made a hot water bottle after the bath and had wrapped it in a towel and placed it on her baby bump. She had refused having the sheets and blankets pulled over her so he had folded them back to the bottom of the bed. The warm fire sending out its heat and orange glow outlining her body. Kristien lay with their warm skin touching, she was still craving him. The cramps had subsided and now she was left with want in her eyes. Kristien knew if she asked in any way to Hawke for more love making he would be very stubborn and say no to her. So she hatched a small devious plan. Hawke watched Kristien as her out stretched hand went to her over night bag that was on the bedside table and she went into one zipped pouches. She brought out a small bottle of essential oils, lavender and camomile and placed it into Hawke’s hand. He shuffled back a little on the bed and allowed her to lay on her back, he looked at her and frowned thinking he was supposedly going to massage her back and then Kristien removed the hot water bottle and pointed to her small bump and he dropped a few droplets of the oils on to her bump and started to rub gently. His lightest touch sent Kristien’s skin into over drive, she was trembling and before she knew it she became very moist between her legs and her breasts tightened, making her nipples hard.

“Touch me.” She whispered with warm breath.

Hawke’s eyes narrowed at the request, he was not about to make love to her not after what had happened to her earlier in the evening. He looked at her awaiting naked body, trembling in front of him.

“Please, touch me.” She pleaded with him with a soft whisper.

“Touch only.” He told her with a stern but soft gruff voice and he allowed his hand to rub over her breasts as his lips descended upon hers and they kissed so tenderly, so lovingly that Hawke relaxed with her, sensing that she wasn’t none the worse for wear for whatever happened earlier. Their embrace continued to be sensual and deep, both of them exploring each others bodies with their lightest touch of their hands. Hawke allowed his hand to wander back down to her baby bump and then lower to her moist folds of skin between her legs, he parted the folds gently and rubbed her clitoris. Kristien arched her back and Hawke broke off his kiss from her and put his lips around one of her nipples and began to suck at it. It was hard in his mouth and he tickled it with his tongue. His hand slipped further down and he eased two fingers gently inside of her, he was surprised at how wet and slippery she was, but enjoyed sliding his fingers in and out of her and rubbing her clitoris. One thing he had never managed to do with her was to get her orgasm like that. She never would. It would always have to be his hard penis inside of her. Her pheromones were heavy in the air and awoke his male instincts so hard he thought he would climax right there.

Kristien felt his hard penis pulse against her leg, her hand gently moved from his firm buttocks to his man hood where she started to gently rub and caress the shaft, her fingers gently kneading his balls. Hawke felt the urgent need to be inside of her and resisted it. Hawke gently slipped his fingers from inside of her and ran his hand up her back to her neck where he pushed her head forward to meet his descending moist lips. Their kiss was tender and serene. Kristien opened her legs and placed her leg over his, and clamped over it pulling him over to her. His hard penis now rubbing the wet, slippery moist folds of skin between her legs. Hawke was really enjoying this, their embrace continued to be tender and loving. Dispelling all his doubts about what he was doing, he gently slipped into her, but not fully. For several minutes they continued, so gentle, so loving, so tender. Hawke moved over her and placed one hand on the carved wooden headboard to hold his body off her completely and his other hand under her, holding her in place so she couldn’t take control, he entered her fully. Kristien tried to clamp her legs around his and pull him deeper into her, she couldn’t. Her hands went to his chest, caressing the lean muscles as she moved her hips up to him. His gentle long slow thrusts doing all the work as his arm kept her in place and the leverage on the headboard helped him keep her still. Gently as he gave in to the fire in his stomach, he pulsed inside her, depositing his life force inside of her. He moved gently off her and slipped to her side and held her close. They were both glistening with sweat and breathing deeply.

“You can do that ‘touch only’ anytime you like to me.” She whispered playfully.

He kissed the top of her head. “You’re incorrigible you know that?”

Kristien smiled quietly to herself and nestled down to rest for a while, content for a while with her craving for Hawke satisfied for the moment. Hawke lay holding her, keeping her safe, happy that they had actually made love, but still concerned about their pure driven lust episode which happened first. The more he tried to think about it, the more tired he got. Finally he drifted off to sleep with her in his arms.

Hawke landed the FIRM’s battleship helicopter outside Santini Air. He hated flying it. It was bulky and had it’s missiles on display on the outside making the ship look clumsy and awkward. It was a bitch to fly and much less manoeuvrable than Airwolf. Carsten and Redwood exited the helicopter first, before Hawke had even switched off the rotors. Both men donned in their dark sunglasses checked out the Van Nuys Apron first and then went direct into Santini Air.

Everett was working on Dominic’s Jet Ranger, he saw the two dressed in black men and stopped working underneath the jet ranger.

“Can I help you?” Everett asked.

“Don’t worry about us.” Carsten told him. “We’re with Hawke.”

“Oh?” Everett looked over at the white helicopter and saw Hawke get out.

Caitlin came out of the office and saw Special Agent Carsten. “Matthew? What are you doing here?” She asked after recognising him.

“Arh Hi Caitlin.” Carsten replied. He hadn’t seen her since the State Dinner and looked sheepishly at her. He hadn’t returned any of her calls or emails. “Urm, well Kristien is here to repair The Lady.”

“Princess Kristien is here!” Caitlin looked over to the helicopter to see Hawke and Kristien exiting. “Oh dear lord, what the hell do you say to a Princess?” Caitlin shrugged.

Carsten saw Caitlin’s awkwardness towards Kristien’s title that she never used and rolled his eyes in frustration, he hoped no one was bugging the place, if they were they would now know that Kristien had arrived with minor security. “Cait. Just treat her as normal, you know, like you do me.” Carsten advised her watching Kristien come over.

Kristien walked into the hangar with Hawke and Dominic came running out of the office after finishing up with his phone call. He went over to Kristien and gave her an affectionate hug. “Oh its great to see you.” He kissed her on her cheek. “You here to fix the lady?”

“I’ll try.” Kristien replied. “It depends how broken she is.”

“What about them?” Dominic nodded his head in the direction of Carsten and Redwood.

Hawke looked over at Kristien’s protection detail. “They will have to stay here, maybe Cait can entertain them?” Hawke replied and went over to Cait to whisper into her ear. Cait held Hawke close and nodded her head with a huge smile on her face and looked directly at Special Agent Carsten, eyeing him up again.

Dominic took Kristien out to Hawke’s huge 4x4 which was parked in front of Santini Air. Carsten followed Hawke out to the 4x4 and they stood to one side. “You look after her.” Hawke ignored Carsten and started to walk off. Carsten called out after Hawke. “And for fuck’s sake don’t lose her.” Carsten was persistent and followed Hawke.

“I know, don’t bother coming back alive etc.” Hawke repeated Carsten’s threat to him when he always took Kristien off by herself without her protection detail.

“You got it.” Carsten handed Hawke a P-90. “I know she’s gonna disappear off my PDA so you check in at the agreed times, got it?” Carsten looked over the PDA and saw Kristien’s GPS locator just disappear. “I will meet you all at her stud. Times to be arranged.”

“Carsten, has Kristie been ok this week, you know since I have been away?” Hawke asked him.

“Well she’s a bit pissed off, if you know what I mean but then she isn’t galloping her racehorses, so that would explain that.” Carsten looked at Hawke unsure as to what the question really meant. “The best person to ask would be Alfred.” Carsten noted Hawke’s uneasiness. “Anything I should know?”

Hawke raised his eyebrow up at Carsten. “Nah.”

Hawke drove the armoured 4x4 through the valley of the gods towards Airwolf’s Lair. Kristien took in the beauty of the place. Hawke drove into the Lair’s entrance and pulled up inside. Airwolf stood with the autumn sunlight from the chimney, bathing down on her. Dominic looked at his baby and sat taking in the moment.

“See I knew it was in a bloody bat cave.” Kristien looked around Airwolf’s lair as she got out of the 4x4. The cold hit her first. “Fuck me I am sure Bruce Wayne had heating in his though.” She muttered under her breath watching the steam come out of her mouth.

Hawke looked over at Kristien at her realisation about his ‘bat cave’. She was always right. He wished he had an all singing and dancing hangar for Airwolf, but he didn’t. The lair was all he had to keep Airwolf firmly out of every government agencies reach, both friendly and foe.

Dominic trundled out of the 4x4 after spending time admiring Airwolf. He went over to the helicopter’s nose and stood patting her. Kristien got into Airwolf and got into the back sitting at the EDCC. Immediately Airwolf’s computer sprang into life. Kristien typed direct into the keyboard and opened the port storage bin and retrieved her laptop and plugged it straight into Airwolf’s CPU. Hawke and Dominic both got into Airwolf and looked directly at Kristien working away. Kristien typed into Airwolf’s keyboard and her other hand typed into her laptop. Various screens on the EDCC lit up and had the various ‘error codes’ flashing up on them.

“Tell me again what you did?” Kristien pressed a couple of the touch screens and types codes directly into the EDCC, shaking her head at what she was getting back on her laptop.

“We told you on the secure transmission.” Hawke reminded her of their conversation 48 hours previous. “NDR.” Hawke told her. Kristien rolled her eyes at Hawke’s quip.

“We told you honey.” Dominic opened his arms submissively and also rolled his eyes at String’s answer. “We were flying our baby, avoiding missiles and the bad guys, when we had a real close call, a missile got near us and exploded on the starboard sponson. Everything went off! Poof!” Dominic shrugged his shoulders. “String, nearly bust his arms holding her together ya’ know.”

Kristien looked up at Hawke, certainly didn’t feel that way last night, she thought. Hawke looked at Kristien and produced a smug little grin, knowing what she was thinking.

Dominic continued. “We made an emergency landing and well tried everything to get her working again, but she wouldn’t.” Dominic replied. “Me and String, limped her home cold.”

Kristien put the vague sequence of events into order. “So you have already repaired the damage to the starboard sponson?” Kristien asked already noting that nothing seemed out of place on the prototype.

“Well, that’s just it honey, there was no damage.” Dominic admitted to her. “It was as if the missile didn’t have any teeth, you know like a firework, had all the noise and the shockwave, but that’s it.”

“Shockwave?” Kristien queried.

“Yeah, the kind that knocks you over in an explosion.” Hawke sarcastically replied, impatient that Kristien hadn’t pressed just one button to repair Airwolf.

Dominic looked over at String, giving him ‘you are not helping’ look. Kristien looked directly at Hawke, her eyes meeting his piercing look. “Thank you but I already had my physics PhD before you finished Junior High.” Somehow Kristien kept her bubbling rage under some control. “What sort of force are we talking of boys?” She continued satisfied that she had given Hawke a suitable rebuke.

“I don’t know, we didn’t cover those sorts of things in Junior High.” Hawke pulled on his sunglasses and got out of Airwolf and walked away, clearly frustrated with the helpless situation he was in.

“Hey, what the hell is up with him?” Dominic said surprised at String’s sudden coldness towards her.

Kristien shrugged her shoulders and got back to work on the laptop. “I might be able to salvage Airwolf’s on board tactical memory bank that records everything, it will be in machine code but I should be able to decipher it to see what kind of force we are talking about.”

Hawke had sat out in the Valley of the Gods for over an hour in the snow. He was brooding and licking his wounds. He was trying to make sense of the graphic nightmare he seemed to have where he was raping Kristien, the consequent rampant sex that they sparked between them, the chronic pain that it inflicted on Kristien although she did seem none the worse after tending to her. True, they had made love further on in the evening and that was more like he was used to but he was struggling to make sense of anything. His old dark ways and moods were slipping back and he was helpless at stopping them from taking over.

Since he had rescued her from Dubawi, Kristien was different somehow. But before that he stupidly had successfully upset her deeply by becoming drunk and accused her of sleeping with another man. Nothing could have been further from the truth. This caused the whole house of cards to implode. Archangel had been planning for many weeks a meeting with the arms dealer, The Minotaur, who had sold a whole heap of nuclear warheads to Bryon, one of which found its way inside the USS Andromeda, sinking it with all hands. Kristien had gone off with her Secret Service agents and then got ambushed by the Minotaur, handing Kristien over to Bryon, her brother, who then drugged, beat and brutally raped his beloved Kristien. Hawke’s deep intense brooding shielded him from feeling the icy cold air of the scenic Valley of the Gods that already had bitten deep into his bones.

Dominic came out looking for Hawke with a hot cup of coffee. Hawke held out his hand and the heat from the coffee felt hotter than it was due to his icy cold hands. He passed it from hand to hand for a couple of minutes before finally getting used to the temperature.

“Tell me to mind my own business, but if I didn’t know any better I would say that you pair are drifting apart.” Dominic sipped his coffee which was already losing it temperature in the icy cold air.

Hawke looked over at Dominic. “It was that bastard Bryon.” Hawke sighed. “I should have killed him.” Hawke spoke full of regret over not killing Byron. He had never assassinated a Head of State before.

“I agree with you on that but he had Zafar hidden away, besides you were on a self destruct with her before that you know.” Dominic reminded him. “I was the one that separated you pair that night. I was sure you were going to hit her.”

Hawke, embarrassed, looked down at the snow covered sandy desert floor hoping at some point it would swallow him whole. It didn’t. “She severed our bond.” Hawke finally admitted.

“Oh? Like when she disappeared, you know for five years?” Dominic asked softly glad that Hawke was at last talking to him.

“No, before I could feel her, I knew she was alive and that was enough for me.” Hawke explained visibly dealing with past traumatic memories. “Dom she stood less than ten feet from me and it was as if she wasn’t there. She cut me off, I never knew she could turn it off like that.”

“It didn’t look turned off when we rescued her you know.” Dominic dismissed Hawke’s concern, not realising that the bond was working in full graphic colour with Hawke in the middle of the brutal rape, helplessly allowing it to happen. Dominic knew the flight to Dubawi was quiet, but he felt that was due to Archangel insisting he came to baby sit just in case Hawke caused an international incident. “Look, how do you know that being pregnant isn’t screwing around with your ESP stuff, huh?”

“When Kristie was pregnant before everything was great between us.” Hawke remembered back with fondness.

“Well that was then, this is now.” Dominic reminded him. “You pair have been through a lot you know.” Dominic finished the coffee, it was nearly cold. “Look after she fixes the Lady why don’t you pair go away for a while, just the two of you.”

“Yeah, good idea.” Hawke smiled weakly, he didn’t think for one moment spending exclusive time with Kristien was the answer to their problems. “That’s if she can fix it.”

“Oh, doubting her now are we? I wouldn’t let Kristien hear that either.” Dominic queried. “She says she can do enough to limp her out of here and get her to her seven forty seven at her Californian Stud to take back to the Hangar in England, where she can fix it.” Dominic said. “She’s already got a list longer than a prostitutes till roll of parts and stuff that Archangel will need to send over to her.” Dominic confidently told him. “She says in two weeks our baby will be as good as new.”

“How long will it take her to get the Lady limping again?” Hawke asked.

“Oh about four hours, I was gonna go back and fly back with some hot food and stuff.” Dominic said. “You know Kristien is eating for two.” Hawke did know and it was a shame that Kristien’s body didn’t wake up to that fact either, instead of developing these weird fussy food fads. Kristien always had a lovely curvy body, muscular but very womanly. She was never skinny, until now.

“I’ll go Dom.” Hawke offered already standing up and making his way back to the Lair.

Dominic raised his eyebrows in shock. “Leave me here with Kristien?” Dominic crossed his hands in front of him. “No way String, Uh oh, we’re in the middle of nowhere and the Lady, she’s got no teeth, remember. If someone comes I’ll be left here in my shorts.” Dominic did not want the responsibility of having to take care of Kristien’s security.

Hawke turned and patted Dominic on his shoulders for reinforcement. “Dom, everything will be ok besides I have to run an errand before I go back to England with Kristie.” Hawke looked at him. “Please Dom, you will be fine, no one knows about the Lair.”

Dominic looked at Hawke and couldn’t believe what was happening. “If I say no then will you listen?”

“Only when you mean it.” Hawke patted Dominic affectionately on his shoulder.

Hawke sat outside The Sunshine Day Care School in Oakland in the 4x4. He had arrived just as the last children were being picked up by their parents. Hawke didn’t understand why you would go to all the trouble of having a baby and then palm it off at the earliest convenient time and go back to work. God if he had a child he wouldn’t leave it alone for one moment. As his mind drifted off to thinking about Kristien’s current pregnancy, time seemed to pass.

“Hello String, it’s been a while.” Megan Ravenson stood at the open passenger window.

Hawke sat in Megan’s house. It was very homely. Megan had helped Hawke and Dom find Archangel when he was taken to get the Fortune Teller device. Megan’s psychic ability made a believer out of Hawke despite his scepticism pushing Megan over the edge and revealing to Hawke all of his ghosts that he carried around on a daily basis and the curse by which he lived by, keeping him safe from letting people get close. And yet here he was, having allowed someone get very close, he was struggling with some kind of inner turmoil that on a daily basis was ripping him apart.

Megan handed Hawke a cup of coffee and she noted all of his ghosts and the deep immense brooding, like before but this time there seemed to be hope, slightly jaded at the moment, but there was a speckle of it.

“So String what are you doing here?” Megan made herself comfortable in her big armchair.

“Aren’t you supposed to know that?” Hawke asked quite short.

“String, you know it doesn’t work like that.” Megan was about to launch into her “you came to me’ talk but she saw his struggling with everything inside of him, ghosts, traumatic memories, turmoil, hurt and love.

“So who is Kristien?” Megan asked softly.

Hawke raised an eyebrow, stunned. “She’s my er, well, urm…….we’ve been together a while.” Hawke stammered unsure what to call Kristien, and reached inside his leather pilots jacket and took out his wallet. He placed a few photo’s of him and Kristien on the coffee table, him holding Kristien, Kristien riding horses. Megan looked at the photo’s but did not touch them. She could feel he had left another picture inside of his wallet. He was testing her. Megan giggled and shook her head at Hawke with disbelief.

“What’s so funny?” Hawke asked feeling that he was probably the butt end of it.

“Even now you doubt what I do, you are testing me and I don’t like that String.” Megan sipped her coffee. “It’s a gift I have String, not a PhD, you can’t test me, you know how it works.” Megan explained. “I get images, sometimes they mean something, sometimes they have a double meaning, I have to work it out. You came to me String, remember.”

Hawke looked at Megan, knowing he had hurt her feelings. “I’m sorry Megan.”

“So are you going to show me a photo of your babys’ photo in the womb then?” Megan asked directly to Hawke.

Hawke smiled and shook his head with amazement. He returned to his wallet and took out the 4D photo of his baby and held it across to Megan like a prized trophy. Megan felt Hawke’s barriers start to melt and she took the photo and stared at the 4D photograph of a perfectly formed baby boy. He was sucking his thumb in the picture.

“Gift of God.” Megan mumbled.

“What?” Hawke prompted. “You see something Megan?”

Megan handed the photo back to Hawke. “String, you know how this works.” Megan reminded him. Hawke placed the photo back into his wallet and put it back into his left jacket pocket next to his heart. “Gift of God, that’s what I got from the photo.”

“What’s that mean?” Hawke asked trying to piece things together. Hawke remembered the night that he had made passionate love to Kristien and that she conceived after the tragic miscarriage that she had. “I would say he is a Gift of God, what we’ve been through lately.”

“So you didn’t come to talk about babies did you?” Megan told Hawke. “If I am going to help you I need clarity from you String.” Megan looked at Hawke who was looking down at the photo’s of Kristien. “No ghosts String, no regrets, no should have done this, could have done this, no blame and no brooding.” Megan set the rules out to Hawke in plain sight.

“I’ll try.” Hawke stammered.

“There is no try String.” Megan told him firmly. “You don’t have time to go round the houses with this. Kristien has nearly fixed Airwolf to fly already so you have an hour, unless you get her to fly direct to her Stud and meet her there. That gives you two.” Megan told him calmly.

Megan’s prediction jolted Hawke back to normality. He took a deep breath and exhaled. “I met Kristie over eight years ago. It was like looking into a mirror when I first saw her. She erected all these barriers and kept everyone away from her and by the time the sun set on the first day I knew I would be with her for the rest of my life.” Hawke began. “When we touched, it was like, I don’t know how to describe it, we just connected. She knew what I was thinking, feeling and I vice versa.” Hawke sipped his coffee, and started to relax talking about Kristien. “Everything was great. She was pregnant with my baby and then got Kidnapped. I lost her Megan. I couldn’t find her.” Hawke’s eyes filled up with tears. “I could feel her fear and I knew she was alive, just but I couldn’t find her.” Hawke held back the tears and the fears for his first born. “We don’t know about the baby. He’d be seven now.” Hawke cleared his throat and put the fears behind him about their first borns fate.

“You didn’t know she was a princess did you.” Megan told him.

Hawke smiled. “No she kept that from me, not that it would have made any difference, I fell in love with her, she just made life worth living!”

Megan smiled back. “It’s good to see you smile. Keep going I am getting a lot, it doesn’t make sense to me but I am hoping that once you get to the end it will.” Megan encouraged him.

Hawke felt happy with Megan’s encouragement and the fact she was really tuned in to him. “Well nearly two years ago I found her again. It was hard at first to connect again, she was grieving and blaming herself for everything, I guess I understand about all of that. We got back together and it was as if we were never apart, we just fitted back and yes, we knew what each other was thinking, doing, feeling. It was very intense, so intense that I don’t think she could handle it and for every couple of months we spent together she sent me away for a couple of months.” Hawke again started to visibly struggle with what was coming next.

“You married her.” Megan told him.

“Yeah, I thought if I told her I loved her and married her then it would show her that we could be together forever.” Hawke tried to explain his complicated need to marry Kristien. “Everything was perfect. We were married, Kristien conceived but then another man tried to claim her. Annulled our marriage and I had to protect Kristien from him. He had this sick arranged marriage and wanted to, well you know.”

“Consummate the marriage.” Megan filled in the gaps easily.”

“I stopped him.” Hawke finished up his coffee which had gone cold, he felt he had been talking for hours and then paused. Megan got up and walked to the kitchen door and just put her hand round the corner and brought over the coffee pot and topped up Hawke’s mug and then her own.

Megan picked up one photo of Kristien and closed her eyes. “Go on.”

“I….er…..I messed up.” Hawke stammered remembering the night he completely fucked up.

“You accused her of sleeping with another man.” Megan looked at him.

“Yeah, I was so stupid, I just saw this contract, for one night with him, he would release Kristien from the marriage and as he was leaving, I just put two and two together and made six.” Hawke admitted with immense sadness. “I got so drunk, so stupid I know, God if I could take it back I would.” Hawke bit his lip trying to prevent the sorrow from taking control. “I called her a whore.”

“You have really wounded her deeply with that, more than you know and more than she will admit to anyone.” Megan told him.

“Oh she punished me, believe me, she cut me off, severed me, I felt dead without her.” Hawke admitted to her and he looked into his coffee the blackness reminding him of the awful emptiness he felt when Kristien just cut him off without warning. “She accepted a mission that I should have gone on and as she wasn’t talking to me in every sense of the word so went with others.” Hawke shook his head. “Everything went wrong. She was taken by her brother, Kristie called out to me, she begged me to help her. I was getting to her as fast as I could.” Hawke struggled to keep his composure. “He beat her so badly and raped her.”

Megan got drawn in to Hawke’s mind, he was reliving it again. “You witnessed it in your mind.” Megan too felt shocked at the intensity of what she was feeling from Hawke. Kristien was very powerful, an immense energy that was connected to Hawke.

Hawke hung his head and nodded and whispered softly. “Yes.”

Megan knew Hawke had his sixth sense and could ‘feel’ things happen, usually to people he was close to. Since picking up Kristien’s photo she felt immense energy, power and strength, that Hawke was connected to. She too was being overwhelmed by it, but with her incredible psychic powers, calmed everything down and kept herself outside of Hawke and Kristien’s world. Megan calmly closed her eyes and saw Hawke holding Kristien during the brutal rape, keeping her mind safe. Whoever Kristien was, she had immense strength and powers and such a strong mind. Megan delved a little further into Kristien’s mind and opened her eyes and quite panicked threw herself back into her chair with some force. Megan had inadvertently seen a deep rage from deep inside Kristien, a rage that she was not prepared for.

Hawke looked at Megan. “You ok? You see something?” Hawke was concerned.

“She has died once in her lifetime.” Megan pieced together bits of what she was seeing. Hawke looked stunned at her.

“When she was born.” Hawke told Megan, remembering what Kristien once told him in the Scottish Highlands, when she finally told him her life story.

“Tell Dominic and Kristien to meet you at her Stud.” Megan told Hawke. “This is going to take some time.”

Hawke delved into his pocket to reach for his mobile. It rang. Hawke looked at the caller ID, it was Dominic on the Satellite phone. Hawke answered it.

“Dom, You and Kristie bring the Lady to Kristien’s stud, I’ll meet you there.” Hawke told him.

“How did you know I was going to say exactly that?” Dominic was surprised that String knew what he was thinking. “He hears telephone signals now! We’ll head over now then, see you there.” Hawke put down the phone and returned it to his pocket. He looked at Megan.

“Now then, let’s discuss how you two are soul mates.” Megan began. “And how Kristien can draw you in to her world to protect her like you did.”

“I didn’t protect her. I failed her.” Hawke mumbled taking more of the dark liquid hoping it would drown out the imminent brooding he was heading for.

Megan stepped forward and knelt down beside Hawke and placed her hands on his. “String, you protected her mind, therefore keeping safe her heart and soul. Our bodies are just shells, vessels that we inhabit just to walk the earth.” Megan softly replied. “You cannot hold on to what happened in the past, what’s done is done.” Megan paused. “Your faith needs restoring.”

“And what if I don’t know how to restore my faith.” Hawke asked feeling incredibly lost with Megans’ true revelations about himself.

“Then what you are left with will tear you apart.” Megan looked up at him. “At first you won’t know what is going on. It’s subtle at first, just small changes, dotted about here and there. The darkness will slowly, day by day, take you over.”

“So how long have I got?” Hawke barely whispered already knowing the truth.

“It’s already started.” Megan told him in a sad voice.
