Taboo - Chapter 2
Peter came back the next day, sitting in the same booth. The moment Claire noticed him she stood still, staring at him. He caught her staring at him and she turned away, going over instead to the tables in front of the stage, seeing two men.
Even with her back to him, Claire could feel his eyes watch her every move. It made her nervous. Her cheeks flushed a couple of times and her pulse sped up…
Claire excused herself, rushing to the back room. She secluded herself in the ladies’ restroom, locking the door behind her as she leaned over the sink before turning on the faucet, splashing water on her face.
A lot of guys looked at her like that before but that was the first time that Claire could feel what he wanted from her, and it made her uneasy. This was Peter after all, her uncle. He was family and as family, she wasn’t supposed to have those kinds of thoughts about him, or least he wasn’t supposed to have those kinds of thoughts about her.
Clearly, she was mistaken.

When Claire came back later from a bathroom break, she noticed Peter still sitting alone in the booth. He noticed her from across the room. They stared at each other for a moment. Claire’s breathed heavily, staring at him and seeing the same reaction from him, she smiled a little before turning away, going to the bar. She asked the bartender for a glass of water and he obliged.
“Hey, what’s with that guy in the far booth?” he asked, nodding towards Peter.
Claire glanced over her shoulder in Peter’s direction and then back to the bartender. “I don’t know,” she mused, her Texas drawl coming through thick. “I saw him here yesterday too…why? Do you think that he’s trouble?”
The bartender, Joe was his name, shrugged, wiping the counter. “I don’t know but there's something about him,” he mused, “He certainly likes you Lily; the guy’s been watching you like a hawk,”
“Really?” Claire mused, sighing, “I hadn’t noticed,”
“Of course you have,” Joe continued, “Be careful, Lily.”
“You know that I never let any of the customers have their way with me,” she retorted, “I serve drinks and nothing else,”
She thanked him for the water before hopping off the stool and going over to one of the tables, taking out her pen and pad. Peter still stared at her, his eyes bearing down into her soul, but Claire couldn’t pay attention to him now.
Once she got her orders, she went back to the bar. Joe had gone on a break as Peter suddenly appeared beside her, sitting on a stool.
“What are you doing here Peter?” she questioned.
“What are you doing here working in a strip club?”
“I’m a seating hostess,” she retorted, glaring at him, “and a waitress,”
“Noah here with you?”
“He is.”
Peter didn’t say anything, studying her a moment. “You don’t belong here Claire,” he said finally.
She sighed. “Well, what are you going to do? Rescue me again, Peter?” she retorted. “You’re not even supposed to be here, much less even know that I’m here. How did you know anyway?”
He shrugged. “I have Molly’s power, remember?” he reasoned.
“Well, turn it off,” she snapped.
Joe came back from the back office, and Claire glanced back at Peter. “You need to leave.” she said quickly, “The bartender already thinks that you’re trouble.”
“I’m not.”
“Then leave.” she said. “Please, Peter.”
Peter stood up from the stool, abruptly leaving the club. Claire hated being so blunt with him but she had no choice. She sighed again before going back to work.

When her shift ended five hours later, she found Peter waiting for her in the parking lot. She rolled her eyes, unable to believe that he actually stayed. Claire found her keys, going over to her car, which was where Peter was standing, waiting for her.
“Let me guess, you knew which one was my car by using Molly’s ability?” she questioned, unlocking the door.
“When I found you here, I wasn’t sure what to think Claire,” he started, “I thought that you became one of those girls and then I thought, if that had happened, Noah would have dragged you out of there by the hair and never looked back,”
She shrugged. “Probably, but he promised me that as long as I’m not noticed, then I can continue to work here.” she said.
He was quiet again. “So have you ever?”
Claire turned and looked at him. “Have I ever what?” she countered.
“Had sex with any of those guys in there?”
Claire couldn’t believe that he just asked her that. The obvious answer was “no” of course; that wasn’t even a part of her job description. The manager anyway promised that she would never have to. “I’m not answering that,” she retorted, opening the car door but Peter slammed it shut, pinning her against the car. “Peter, let me go!”
She struggled to free herself from his grasp but he was strong, a lot stronger than she remembered. He leaned forward, breathing in her scent, pressing his body close to hers. Claire didn’t know what to do or say but somehow, her leg brushed against his and for a brief moment, felt a longing to touch him until he pulled away suddenly.
Claire cleared her throat, fixing her skirt, opening the car door again but stopped and turned back to him. “Do you want to…?”
Peter frowned.
“I mean, do you want to come to my place for some coffee or something?” she offered.
Peter didn’t say anything and Claire took his silence to mean that he wasn’t interested. Then, he walked over to the other side of the car and she got in, unlocking his side and letting him in.
