Chapter 2
“Greetings,” Zordon’s voice said, and they were surprised by the ‘humanness’ in it. “These are my Personal Journals. If you are watching this, two things must have happened; I have discovered what happened to William Cranston and/or I am gone, and you are Power Rangers who are directly impacted by both events.”
“What happened to William Cranston?” Kimberly suddenly paled, and they looked at one another, horrified, as Adam jammed his finger on the pause button.
“What does he mean, what happened to Billy?” Zack suddenly straightened, and he looked more serious than anyone had seen him . . . ever.
“Billy’s safe on Aquitar with Cestria, right?” Kimberly demanded, and she gripped Tommy’s arm tightly.
“Kim,” he said, his voice taut. “I’m not sure. We assumed . . . I mean, he left us to be with her. He left us to get healed . . .”
“But he never got back in contact with us after he left,” Aisha said. “I didn’t know him that well, and I wondered if that was normal . . .”
“We contacted him a few times, and we were told by Cestria he was fine and having fun exploring the planet,” Adam said, his face drawn.
“He was always too busy to talk to us,” Jason frowned. “We could believe that, knowing how deeply Billy got involved in his experiments. Sometimes we’d even have to remind him to eat . . .”
“And we did believe it, and even accepted it as part of Billy,” Rocky frowned. “But if Zordon didn’t know what happened to him, why didn’t he tell us that something was wrong?”
“Let’s find out,” Zack frowned, pushed the play button, and they riveted their attention on the screen.
“I can imagine your first question would be why I didn’t tell you when I realized Billy might be in trouble. You had far too much already to think about, and if I couldn’t find Billy, with all my vast resources, there really wasn’t that much anyone else could do about it either . . . nor did I have any wish to worry you unnecessarily.
“There are certain things in here which you may not want to see, but I feel the need to explain my actions regarding young Billy, and his regarding me, so there will be no repercussions or unpleasant surprises in case you decide to pursue the information regarding Billy contained within this personal journal.”
“That sounds fairly ominous,” Zack said, and they all quieted, as a playback started. It was a montage of Billy taken over the three years he was with Zordon, and all the ways Billy changed, with emphasis on his physical form.
“Is it just me,” Jason blushed scarlet, “Or does Zordon seem to concentrate on Billy’s body just a bit too much?”
“No, it’s not just you,” Zack cleared his throat, and watched as a scene from Billy’s uncle's cabin showed, and Billy watched Zack dance. No one missed the fact that Billy covered his middle with his hands, and then the pillow, which he promptly threw at Zack, which started a riotous pillow fight.
There were other scenes where Billy clung just a little too long to Jason, or gazed a little too long at Tommy, stood a little too close to Rocky, and looked a little too pleased when Adam understood what he said and was willing to work with him.
By the time the montage ended, they all had a pretty clear idea of what Zordon was saying without actually saying it.
“Wh-hoa,” Kimberly said, as Adam stopped the footage, and no one could look at the other comfortably. “So seriously did not know that Billy swung that way.”
“Science journals,” Jason said, and swallowed. “Good cover.”
“But he also liked girls, right?” Adam asked as he cleared his throat. “I mean, you guys told me that . . .”
“In the beginning,” Kimberly said, and shrugged. “But even then we had to practically push him into it and throw him at them . . . or the bad guys had to throw them at him.”
“After that thing with Valerie, and he got stuck in the Command Center, I don’t think he ever really went after another girl again . . .” Tommy said, and they slowly looked at one another, and then the screen.
“You. Don’t. Think . . .” Rocky said about as hesitantly, and as uncomfortably as one could speak, and he couldn’t finish.
“Anything’s possible, but I don’t think Zordon would want us to look at this for no reason,” Aisha blinked, and indicated the play button.
“And Zordon did intimate that Billy was in trouble. I mean, we could stop this now, turn it off, and just walk away, because of how we may feel, and how our society says we should feel,” Adam raised his hands helplessly, and looked at the others.
“Is that what you want to do?” Jason asked. “Any of you?”
“Billy’s my friend, man,” Zack frowned. “And, all things considered, I’ve had a lot less of a person want me. I tell you, had Billy been a girl, I wouldn’t have minded dating him,” he chuckled. “Wouldn’t have understood what he was talking about most of the time, but I tell you, a truer heart that isn’t in this room, or a grave, you couldn’t hope to find.”
“I agree,” Tommy said, and hit the play button. The Power Chamber was quiet, and Alpha was bent over, obviously in ‘recharge mode’, and they watched as Billy hummed to himself as he rolled back and forth under several consoles, and made several different adjustments.
