Chapter One

It was Clark’s sophomore year in high school and he was having a really hard time concentrating in his biology class. It was so hot out and the air conditioning unit in the whole school was broken. He was slowly starting to go crazy because the heat was actually starting to affect him on some weird level.

He had to listen to Chloe complain about her makeup constantly running and Pete moaning about it being too hot to have to deal with all this school crap. He just wanted to sneak off and go take a private dip in the school pool. Nobody else would dare to even think about doing such a thing. It was against school rules to use the pool without a supervisor.

He leaned back in his desk to get more comfortable when his teacher began to play the film they were going to watch for extra credit. It had to do with mammal reproduction and all that jazz.

He turned his head around to see that Lana was looking out the window. She had a few drops of sweat running down her forehead. She was lazily fanning herself with a black folder.

“Okay, Class.” Mr. Sandman said, turning back around to face them all. “I want a full page written on what you thought about this film. You all know the format that I like, and I am not going to take crap. If you so much as give me crap, I’m going to rub it in your faces and laugh at you for being stupid. Now, pay attention, and enjoy. Some of you young men might actually learn a thing or three.”

Clark lowered his head when he heard some of girls in his class laugh. It made him blush something terrible, but it also made him feel bad. All of the other guys in this class could have an intimate relationship with a partner of their choosing and not have to worry about accidentally tearing them in two during the heat of the moment.

That was when the images of that dream suddenly came back to him. He could feel that alien creature in his arms and how it made him feel so good. The thought of making love to such a thing should disgust him, but in the dream, it had been so erotic. Hell, it had been down right hot. All those tentacles wrapping themselves around certain parts of his body nearly had him cringing with want.

All of a sudden he began to feel really tight in his jeans and something was seriously funny with his eyes. They felt as though they were on fire and then the television screen in his line of sight suddenly exploded into flames.

His jaw dropped open in shock and many of the girls screamed.

“Evacuate the room!” Mr. Sandman yelled, running for the fire extinguisher.

Clark got to his feet and quickly followed everybody out of the room. He quickly realized that something was not right down below and took off towards the restrooms before anybody got the chance to notice that he had a bulge in his front.

He ran through the doors, locked himself in the farthest stall from the door, and took a seat. That had been a close one. He did not think that anybody saw. If they did, he was so going to hear about it later.

He put his hands over his eyes and tried to calm himself down. What had he done to that poor television? It had done nothing to him.

Now he had another freaky ass power. As if super strength, super speed, indestructibility x-ray vision, and floating while dreaming was not enough. Now he could shoot some kind of heat ray from his eyes. This was just great! He was now even more of a freak. They should just put his picture in the dictionary right under the definition for freak.

He rested his head against the cool wall and sighed. How in the world was he going to control this one? It could come back at anytime. What if he accidentally hosts a barbeque with his classmates? He was damn sure that Chloe would not appreciate being well done. That would probably just piss her off even more. She still had not forgiven him completely about leaving her at the prom.

He got back to his feet, repositioned his tamed cockatoo, and walked back to where the students were huddled around the door. They could all hear Mr. Sandman talking it over with Principal Kwan. Clark was relieved. Nobody knew what had happened. He was off the hook, for now.

Abel was standing in his shower, allowing the hot streams of water to roll down his body. The faucet above his head was huge, and he had the setting set on waterfall. Steam just seemed to billow around him as he threw his head back, washing the sweet smelling shampoo from his hair.

He knew that he was being watched by the three other females that were in the lab. All of his actions were monitored and written down for further observations. Sometimes, if he focused hard enough, he could slide into their minds, seeing that they actually enjoyed watching him.

They thought his body to be gorgeous and his facial features flawless. The females thought him beautiful and sometimes a few of the males would think along the same lines. He could hear how some of them even longed to touch his body in ways that were foreign to him.

He closed his eyes and leaned back against the warm glass as the water hit him soothingly. Images of the green eyed, dark haired male came to his mind. He could feel those strong arms holding him, as both of their bodies moved to some strange rhythm under the surface of the warm water. Glowing blue and green bubbles were floating all around them as that great feeling in his nether region took hold.

Look how big he is…

His eyes snapped open and he looked down to see that the organ between his legs had grown once more. He slowly wrapped his right hand around it and slightly cringed at how good it felt when he gently squeezed it.

Oh my god, he’s touching himself…

That voice made him stop. He looked around to see that Lex had entered the lab. Lex never came in when he was bathing. He turned his head away and dropped his hand.

He turned off the water and grabbed his big white towel. He stepped out of the shower room, drying himself off. Lex looked really uncomfortable for some odd reason. Why was that?

“Please, cover yourself up, Abel.” Lex told him. So, you’re starting to feel things like that, huh?”

Abel was not about to ask what Lex meant. That would just upset him.

“What were you thinking about when you were in the shower?” Lex asked him, as he watched Abel put on his clothes. He could not help but to admire how smooth and toned his body was. He looked like an alabaster Hyacinth.

Abel turned around and looked at him while slipping a shirt on over his head. “I was thinking about someone that I keep seeing in my dreams.”

“Oh?” Lex asked. “Who is this person you see in your dreams?”

Abel shook his head. “I’m not sure who he is. He will not tell me his name.”

He? Did he just say he? Oh my god, we’ve created a homosexual alien.

Abel hid the puzzlement from his eyes. What was homosexual? What is this god thing?

“What did he look like?” Lex asked him, taking a seat at the desk.

Abel walked over and sat down on his bed, picking up Rocky to hold. He did not know if he should tell the truth or not.

“Are you reading my mind right now, Abel?” Lex asked him.

Abel shook his head. “Things come in and then they go away.”

That was a complete and total lie but Lex did not need to know that. He looked down into his teddy’s little black button eyes and frowned. He came to the conclusion that he could not trust Lex.

He could see how beautiful the world on the outside looked. The grass was all green, the sky was all blue, and there were all kinds of strange colored things growing in the grass.

“I’m not sure what he looks like.” He lied. “But, he is really strong.”

“Like you?” Lex asked.

Abel nodded.

Lex’s face turned thoughtful.

“What are the many colored things that grow with the grass called?”

Lex listened to him describe what the many colored flowers looked like. He decided to be the good guy and tell him.

“They are called flowers, Abel. Some of them smell really, really good. Would you like for me to bring you one?”

Abel’s eyes lit up and he nodded enthusiastically.

“Did you read my mind just now?” Lex asked him.

Abel nodded. “You were on the outside, looking at all those flowers. They reminded you of someone that you…had emotions, still have emotions for.”

Lex cocked his head to the side and wondered if he should be afraid right now. Maybe it would be best if he left. He did not want Abel asking him questions about his mother.

“I’m not doing anything bad? Why are feeling afraid?”

“It’s not good to read other people’s private thoughts, Abel.” Lex told him, slowly rising to his feet, remembering how strong this creature was. “It is bad to do so.”

Abel frowned. “Bad?”

Lex nodded. “It hurts me when you read my thoughts without me asking you to.”

“Do you feel pain when I do it?”

“Yes.” Lex told him. “It makes me feel sad that you would do such a thing, Abel.”

Abel knew what sad was, but Lex did not have any tears. He was not crying.

“I won’t read your mind anymore then.” Abel told him, but he was lying.

Susan had explained to him what lies were yesterday. It was bad, but he did not like Lex anymore. Lex was the one who was lying to him. The outside was not bad. It was the people on the outside that was bad.

“You promise?” Lex asked him.

Abel held Rocky tight. “I promise, Lex.”

That made Lex smile. He knew that Abel was lying and he knew that Able knew that he knew.

“Susan will come and see you later.” Lex told him, as he walked away. “She will be running some more tests.”

Abel lowered his head. “Are you going to put me to sleep again?”

Lex stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around to face him. The look on Abel’s face was that of a frightened child, but this was no longer a child. He had the body of an adult youth and he was gorgeous.

“Yes.”

“I don’t like doing that.” Abel told him. “I see scary things.”

“They can’t hurt you, Abel.” Lex smiled. “Dreams can’t hurt you.”

Abel watched him leave, and lied down. He closed his eyes, feeling something deep down inside of him start to slowly slither to the surface.

“Kent!” A loud voice called out to him as he carried his lunch tray over to where Pete and Chloe were sitting. “Nice tent you had today? Were you able to relieve yourself when you ran to the bathroom?”

Clark lowered his head. It was moments like this that he wished he was a turtle. He would hide his head inside his shell and only come back out when everybody was gone. Everyone at that table was laughing at him.

“Why were you looking, Collin?” Pete yelled back. “You said that his tent was nice! So, you have a thing for Clark, eh?”

That made the jock snarl, and turn back around. The people that were sitting at his table were real quiet.

“Thanks Pete.” Clark said, taking a seat beside him.

“No problem, man.” Pete laughed, hitting him on the back. He turned back around and Caught Collin’s eye. He gave the jock his signature look which clearly said, I’ll cut you in your sleep, cracker.

Clark took a bite of his school pizza and made a face. It was still half frozen. He looked at it and wished he could somehow figure out how to heat it with his eyes. This heat thingy was going to be a neat trick if he could just figure out how to turn the damn thing on and off.

“What’s wrong?” Chloe asked, taking a bite of her chicken salad sandwich that her dad had made for her.

Clark spat the piece out into a napkin, wiping his tongue clean with another one. That had just been plain nasty.

She laughed. “That alone answered everything.”

Clark knew that Pete was burning to ask him what the hell had happened in biology earlier. He was just going to have to wait until the two of them were alone. Chloe was a good friend, but that damned poisonous pen always seemed to come first.

“I wonder what happened in biology today.” Pete said, taking a bite of his sub. “Mr. Sandman nearly had a heart attack.”

“Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream…”

Both boys looked right at Chloe.

“What?” She asked, taking another bite of her sandwich. She loved that song.

Pete shook his head. “I really needed that extra credit, too.”

Clark rolled his eyes. “You have an A in there just like me.”

“Hey!” Pete smiled. “Every point counts.”

“Okay, Sweetpea.” Susan said, getting the needle ready. “I want you to close your eyes, and start to count backwards from ten just like we always have.”

Abel gave her a small smile and did as she asked. He got to three before he was completely under.

“That was amazing.” The doctor next to her said. “My other patients don’t even make it to eight.”

She smiled. “This patient is unlike any other, Markus.”

They started to monitor his brain patterns, and his heart rate.

“Something strange is happening, Susan.” Markus said, pointing at the monitor. “His pulse rate is rising dramatically.”

She turned away from the counter to look at the monitor. Something was not right. Was he having another nightmare?

Just then that strange noise began to echo from his throat. It was like a dolphin clicking along with nails on a chalkboard. Both of them had to cover their ears as the glass in the room shattered all around them.

Susan screamed. “Abel!”

The noise stopped and Abel’s body started to convulse violently. Susan was at his side in an instant, trying to figure out what was the matter. This was not normal, whatever it was. Nothing like this had ever happened before.

“Susan!” Markus yelled, slowly backing away towards the door. “His skin is changing!”

“What is going on?” A loud voice asked over a speaker.

Susan ran over to the monitor and pushed the green button. “We have a serious problem!”

She cried out when that terrifying noise issued forth from Abel’s mouth once more.

“I did not sign on for this!” Markus yelled. “This thing has scales and tentacles!”

Susan spun around to see that Abel no longer looked human at all. His body had gotten bigger and a lot stronger looking. His skin no longer looked like skin. It was so black it looked blue in the right light. It reminded her of the rubber like skin that a dolphin or a whale possessed. He had tentacles slithering and coiling from his head and along his back. His arms had grown longer, and his hands had elongated into razor sharp talons. His legs had grown long and powerful. Those feet no longer looked like human feet at all. They were longer and more deadly looking. They looked like something that belonged to a raptor.

It all so horrifying it was beautiful in some scary way. She could not take her eyes off of his alien form. The noise that his voice box produced had shattered all the glass in the room, and it died away once more.

The door opened up, Lex came stalking in, only to freeze in his tracks when he saw what he assumed was Abel. He gulped and dared not step any closer.

“I’m out of here!” Markus yelled, and took off running out the door.

Lex just stood there right beside Susan as Abel’s body slowly started to look human once more. It was like the alien body was shrinking back inside of the more human looking one.

Lex could not form words to describe how awesome this was.

Susan merely shook her head in awe. “Beautiful.”

Sea green eyes fluttered open and Abel sat up in a slight daze. He looked around at the mess that seemed to surround him.

“Did I do something bad?”

Both of them were completely flabbergasted. He just came out of the sleep that should have lasted for hours.

“I had a scary dream.”
