Nobody Knows It But Me

~~~~~~~~~~
Carter's jaw dropped and his heart sank. He had witnessed what had happened bewteen Hogan and Newkirk from the window. Carter secretly loved Newkirk. Sure, Newkirk picked at him, but Carter knew that if they weren't friends, Newkirk wouldn't pick on him. Carter wanted Newkirk as a friend and a lover.
Carter walked away from the barracks and sat down on the steps that lead to Colonel Wilhelm Klink's office. He wanted to cry, scream and tell Newkirk how he felt. He buried his face in his hands and thought. He thought long and hard about what he had witnessed and how he felt.
"What's wrong, Carter?" Sergeant Schultz asked as he walked up and sat down beside him. Carter straightened up and looked at him. After a few seconds of debating if he should or shouldn't tell Schultz, he gave in.
"Well, I have this friend that I really like in more than one way. I just found out that this friend is possibly seeing another friend." Carter said.
"Oh, is she pretty?" Schultz asked.
"Yeah. You could say that." Carter said.
"What about the personality? Does she have a good personality?" Schultz asked.
"I get picked on a bit by my friend. But my friend does have a good personality." Carter said.
"Tell your friend how you feel." Schultz said, getting up.
"Thanks, Schultz." Carter said.
"Anytime." Schultz said as he entered Klink's office. Carter watched the barracks door open. Hogan walked out as he put his hat on. He leaned against the barracks. A minute later, Newkirk came out. He casually walked over and started talking to Hogan.
"I hope no one finds out about us." Newkirk said softly.
"Don't worry. I'm sure we're in the clear." Hogan responded.
"Look at Carter. What do you think has gotten him looking so glum?" Newkirk asked.
"There's no telling." Hogan said.
Carter decided to follow Schultz's advice. He knew that if Newkirk turned him down, things would become very uncomfortable. He also knew that he had to try. He gathered his courage and made his way over.
"Newkirk, can I talk to you in private?" Carter asked.
"Sure." Newkirk said. Newkirk felt light headed about being alone with Carter. He couldn't deny that he liked Carter as friend and his feelings went beyond friendship. He picked on Carter because he had a crush on him. He figured that Carter would never return his feelings
Hogan respectfully left the pair alone to talk. Hogan felt slightly threatened about Carter talking to Newkirk alone. He had seen the way that the two eyed each other. Hogan tried to talk himself to believing that Newkirk would remain faithful to him.
"What do you want to talk about, Carter?" Newkirk asked.
"When I tell you this, I want you to know that I'm the only one who knows and I'll keep my mouth shut about it." Carter said.
"Ok... What is it?" Newkirk pressed on.
"I know about you and Colonel Hogan." Carter said as quickly as he possibly could. Newkirk went pale upon hearing this.
"How do you know about Colonel Hogan and me and when did you find out?" Newkirk asked calmly.
"I just happened to see the two of you through the window today. But that isn't the only thing I want to talk to you about, Newkirk." Carter said.
Newkirk blinked slowly. His mind was spinning as he tried to take in what Carter had just told him. He couldn't believe that Carter had seen him and Hogan together. Newkirk thought about how that ruined every possible chance of him ever having any kind of relationship with Carter other than being just friends. He figured that the chances of him dating Carter were looking very slim now.
"What else did you want to say?" Newkirk asked once he snapped out of his thoughts.
"I want you to know that I love you. I mean as a friend and possibly more." Carter said. Newkirk felt elated that Carter felt the same way about him as he felt about Carter.
