Explanations of a Private
~~~~~~~~~~
"What happened?" LeBeau asked upon seeing the red mark on Carmel's
face when Carmel entered the barracks.
"Nothing." She said.
"That isn't nothing, love." Newkirk said.
"I said it's nothing." Carmel said, pouring herself a cup of coffee and setting down.
"Love, whatever Klink did to leave that mark on your face just isn't cricket."
Newkirk sat down beside her. Over the past week, Carmel and Newkirk had become fast friends.
"He just gave me a talking to." She told him.
"Yeah... A talking to with his hands by the look of it."
Carter said, setting down across from her.
"Klink has never hit a prisoner, let alone a female, since we've been here.
The Kraut has hit a new low." Kinch said.
"I've got to talk to Klink." Hogan said.
"COLONEL HOGAN! You can't, sir!" Carmel cried, getting up and stopping Hogan.
"I have to. This is against the Geneva Conference." Hogan said.
"Colonel, sir, if you talk to him, Klink will think I've said something
and he'll come down on us all." Carmel said.
"You never cared about what Klink had to say before,
so why are you caring now?" Hogan asked.
"Well, Wilhelm..." Carmel stopped at calling Klink by his first name.
The whole barracks had went silent.
"I see you're on a first name basis with the Kraut colonel." LeBeau snapped.
"LeBeau! It's not like that." Carmel said.
"Yes, it is. You've sold out to them." LeBeau said.
"I have not!" Carmel told him.
"Well, why were you having sex with Klink in his private quarters?" LeBeau asked.
Everyone's jaw dropped.
"I seen what happened." LeBeau told her.
"Because that was my punishment for everything I've done since I've been here.
I've thrown cold water on him in winter; I've locked the doors to his office;
I've locked the doors to his staff car while it was running. If that doesn't
deserve the punishment that I received, then please, tell me what would be
the proper punishment?" She snapped.
"Carmel, you're a lovely young lady. You deserve better than being
screwed by a bloody Kraut." Newkirk said.
Carmel broke down and permitted herself to cry. She sobbed uncontrollably.
"I didn't want to do it." She said between sobs.
"It's ok, love." Newkirk said softly. He led her over to the bunk
and she laid down. "You need to rest." Newkirk told her.
"Sir, you can't talk to Klink about what happened. It's bothering her enough
as it is." He told Hogan when Carmel had seemingly fallen asleep.
Hogan looked Carmel but didn't respond.
"I think she did that for us." Carter said. They looked at Carter.
"What are you talking about?" Hogan asked.
"Well, I think, in a way, she did what she did to protect us.
See, while she was with Colonel Klink, we were able to carry out our
assignment without him spotting us." Carter said.
"You've got a point." Kinch said.
"See, she done it out of love for us." Carter said.
