ooh ooh
When you love someone so deeply
They become your life
It's easy to succumb to overwhelming fears inside
Blindly I imagined I could
Keep you under glass
Now I understand to hold you
I must open up my hands and watch you rise
Chorus
Spread you wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly (Oooh)
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly were meant to be, so spread your wings and fly
Butterfly
I have learned that beauty
Has to flourish in the light
Wild horses run unbridled
Or their spirit dies
You have given me the courage
To be all that I can
And I truly feel your heart will
Lead you back to me when you're
Ready to land
Chorus
Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly (Oooh)
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me, we truly were meant to be
So spread your wings and fly (spread your wings and fly)
Butterfly (butterfly)
Bridge
I can't pretend these tears
Aren't overflowing steadily
I can't prevent this hurt from
Almost overtaking me
But I will stand and say goodbye (stand and say goodbye)
For you'll never be mine
Until you know the way it feels to fly
Chorus
Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly (Oooh)
Fly abandonedly into the sun (fly to the sun)
If you should return to me (I will know you're mine)
We truly were meant to be (spread your wings and fly)
So spread your wings and fly
Butterfly (my butterfly)
Chorus
Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly were meant to be (you and I)
So spread your wings and fly (spread your wings and fly)
Butterfly
So flutter through the sky
Butterfly
Fly
Spread your wings and fly
Butterfly.
The Doctor sighed as he watched her. The steady beep of the heart monitor and the breathing tube were all that was keeping her alive. Jack followed Martha in as the woman came to check on her patient.
“Doc...” Jack said softly.
The Doctor looked up.
“What?”
Jack sighed and took a breath, preparing for the outburst that he just knew would come from the Doctor after he said what he had to.
“Torchwood...”
Jack could see his eyes burning in anger.
“They sent her on a suicide mission, Doc,” Jack said to the man, “they began to see her as a liability. They knew that if she was to find you...then they would no longer be able to control her.”
The Doctor was seething.
“They did this to her....”
Jack nodded, “They are responsible, yes.”
The Doctor looked back at Cade.
“They will pay...but not right now...”
The Doctor sat next to Cade. Martha pulled Jack aside.
“I met the Queen when we met Shakespeare,” She told Jack, “so...Torchwood...”
“Was created by Queen Victoria because of the Doctor,” Jack confirmed.
Martha didn't understand.
“Why would they kill her?”
“Because she is desperately in love with and blindly loyal to the Doctor.”
Martha's suspicions were confirmed where Cade and the Doctor were concerned. She pulled something out of her pocket and put it in Jack's hands.
“Can you tell me if she wrote this?” Martha asked, blocking the Doctor's view of what Jack was doing.
Jack looked in his hands to see a leather bound journal. He opened it carefully and read the first entry.
Dear Rosie,
Barty is a sweet man. He didn't deserve it...oh, we were captured and he was tortured for information that he didn't have...or if he did, he didn't tell them. That's not the kind of man that Barty is. When they brought him back to our cell, Rosie...he was shaking...so badly. Like...the Cruciatus from that Harry Potter book you got me to read.
I don't really know what the Cruciatus looks like, but you can probably guess...
Jack looked to Martha.
“It's her diary...She was writing to her cousin...to Rose. She calls the Doctor Barty in this. And she mentions Harry Potter....”
I held him while he shook, Rosie, and his tremors...they were really bad, Rosie...really bad. I just wish it was me instead...he's so sweet...he didn't deserve that, Rosie. Well, we are back on the TARDIS now. And boy, she was pissed...if she could have, she would have ripped those fuckers apart with her bare hands...but she didn't...doesn't...have hands. That was our very first adventure...well not his...but mine...with him.
Jack chuckled.
“It describes bits of her first adventure with him. They were captured and he was tortured. She mentioned the Cruciatus in comparison to his tremors when they brought him back to their cell...”
Jack and Martha left the room, to go over the journal. To see if it had anything helpful, to see if she knew what Torchwood was going to do was coming.
“Cadence...” The Doctor sighed, “I...I shouldn't have...I should have found you sooner...I...I just....”
The Doctor felt warm tears run down his cheeks. This was new for him. To truly feel enough to cry. Losing Rose hurt him, but he didn't let himself cry. But Cadence...he couldn't stop himself.
“I missed you so much, Cadence....so much that I just threw myself into my work. I let it distract me...I should have found you...I should have protected you....”
The Doctor lay his head upon Cadence's stomach, almost fully asleep when he felt a hand in his hair, tugging it. He looked up to see her awake, with a hand at her throat. He removed the tube and helped her sit up. He sat behind her and held her closely, gently tight, and held onto her for dear life.
“Barty...” She rasped.
The Doctor looked up and into her bloodshot eyes.
“Cade...” He started.
She put a weak finger to his lips.
