The Quest - Chapter 2
The two friends walked for hour on the trail they loved and cherished; they often hunted deer in this area in the fall.
They used and maintained a shelter in the area. They both preferred sleeping on the ground under the stars. When rain, fog or colder weather came, they would use the shelter.
They both sat on logs, drinking fresh cool water, and just enjoying the breeze from the trees and the bustle of animal life around them
Mingo spoke first.
"I went on my first quest the summer I came home. Rain Cloud told me I needed to find my guide, it was a unique experience and helped cleansed my white blood."
”It seems to me that you handle your white blood rather well, my friend” Daniel stated simply.
"Does it seem like that to you Daniel, truly?" Mingo asked.
"No, not always. I have been to four of your white blood cleansing ceremony since we became blood brother, Mingo. I know this duality of yours is not the easiest task of your life." admitted Daniel in a rare show of open feelings.
"I wouldn’t be the man I am without all the white blood and the British education behind me. But I like it when my Cherokee blood is strong in my veins."
Silence followed this very intimate exchange between the two friends, who called themselves brothers, who were family to one another.
"Rain Cloud thought that my activities last winter had thinned my Cherokee blood. Remember how many days I spent at the fort with the settlers, hunting with you and them, while food was scarce for your people."
Daniel noticed right away the 'your' preceding the people. Mingo's (superb) coloring and tone was darker and deeper than usual.
"And what did this quest bring you, Mingo?"
"Daniel, I don't know. I don't know."
As the silence continued, Mingo (superb) hands started fiddling with thin branches by his feet (superbly) covered with new moccasins.
"Daniel I had a vision. But I cannot make head or tail of it. I spoke in counsel last night after my return. None of my brothers and friends could understand. Neither did our medicine man." Mingo was openly stunned.
Daniel waited. Mingo (superb) eyes and (superb) dimples were bright and rich. His(superb)dark brown eyes showed his wonderment.
"There was a man who looked like me. But he was a white man. He wore the white man clothes. However, they didn't look like any of the clothes the settlers ware or any of the British, I knew in my youth. His hair was short. He wore a white shirt, and tight black trouser. His house was made of fine brick on the outside but inside the paneling was smooth. He sings constantly and is a happy man."
Daniel listened eagerly and nudged Mingo to continue.
"So Mingo, this white man looked exactly like you?"
"Exactly like me, Daniel. Whiter. He seemed to willingly live within that wondrous house."
"Wondrous house Mingo?"
"Wondrous house, full of wondrous artifacts, Daniel."
"You have lived in Britain. You are the son of a lord. You have seen wondrous things before my friend." told Daniel.
"Nothing like this, Daniel. Nothing like this. There was a door, leading to a privy. A privy the likes of which I had never seen, Daniel. And that man, that white man who looked so much like me, got undressed in it, as I do when I go swimming. He entered a cubicle, with a glass window. The water started to flow from the ceiling. Then the man, who looked like me, in all the (superb) details, sang and washed with delight under the water streaming from the ceiling.”
"Mingo, that's what a vision is about, no? You love swimming, you love the water, and you love the feeling of cleanliness. You dislike the white men around here who don't wash."
"Daniel, I do not go around daydreaming of being clean." critiqued Mingo in his (superb) voice. Then he continued.
"The water stopped flowing at some point. I realized then that the white man (with the superb body like mine) had control of it. It was an artifact worthy of the Roman plumbing system tenfold and it was under his control.”
Mingo drank more water, and some dripped off his (superb) lips, which he wiped with his (superb) hand.
"Then this woman came in, without shame, and spoke to him. She had a white towel, very rich and very thick with a wonderful smell"
Daniel stopped Mingo at this point.
"You smell things in your vision quest?"
"In this instance, I did. It was rich, thick, white and soft even for I touched it as the woman passed by me. The man looked at her with a (wondrous) and (superb) smile as she gave him the towel.
He promptly started to towel off his lean, muscled torso, and then handed the towel back to her.
"Darling, could you get my back please?"
Although he was much taller, she started with his broad shoulders, down his back, then putting her arms around him, she wrapped the towel at his waist. He turned to her,
"Your turn now," he said and switched on the shower so that the room began to get steamy.
