Turning Back the Hands of Time
The boss sat back in his chair, interlacing his thick fingers, bringing his index fingers to a point before touching them to his lips as he contemplated the situation. His pawn wasn't supposed to have been in here, he had planned on dealing with him in the outer office. He couldn't gauge his reaction to seeing the portrait, it would have been more valuable to have been here for the unveiling. It had been his original plan to use the portrait as a test on John, should any doubts about the deprogramming arose.
Judging from what he could see, the brainwashing had been thorough and complete. Once a man is broken it becomes much easier to break him again, if need be. His pawn had been one of his most prized possession, taken and remolded into a callous, uncaring mercenary, trained to do his master's bidding without question. When he'd lost him all those years ago, the boss had been devastated.
Now he had him back and he intended to keep him this time around, using him to his full potential. Glancing at the clock, the boss noticed it was nearly tea time, he rose and exited his offices, heading for the veranda. He was humming a little aria and there was a lilt in his stride, he was happy again.
Stefano opened the French doors and stepped out onto the veranda, looking he saw see her sitting there waiting for him. A broad smile crossed his face, she had her back to him and he crept up quietly behind her. Leaning in, he inhaled her scent before placing a soft kiss on the nape of her neck. Her skin felt like the finest of silk against his lips and she smelled divinely.
She let out a small gasp of surprise, followed by and endearing giggle. "Oh, Stefano," she cooed softly giving him a bright smile that warmed his heart beyond compare. He sat down across from her while a servant brought the tea and scones, pouring them each a cup, "will there be anything else sir?" "No, you may go." With that the servant disappeared and they were alone on the veranda.
He put out his hand across the table, and she gently placed hers within it. "How are you feeling my darling?" He asked.
She smiled up at him, her big hazel eyes sparkling in the sunlight, "Better now that you're here. I'm fine you can stop worrying about me." She said, giving him a reassuring grin.
Stefano sat back, with a contented sigh and smile on his lips, today was the day he'd been dreaming of, working towards. At long last he had her back, he had managed the impossible, to turn back the hands of time. His prized pawn was back in the fold and she was at his side once more, everything was right in his world again. He gazed intently at her, basking in her undeniable beauty and radiance, smiling as he knew the brainwashing and conditioning had apparently achieved his goal. It had taken much effort from his bright boys in the back room to erase time and give her back to him as she once was, everything seemed to be working out splendidly.
Tonight would be the true test however, he would finally be able to put his mind to rest that everything was as it seemed. If not, he would detect it and more work would have to be done. After tea and idle chit chat he looked into her eyes, he could see the love shining there. "I'm afraid I have to take my leave of you now my darling, work beckons me." She groaned and gave him her best pout, which caused him to chuckle heartily. "I will be finished in plenty of time for dinner darling, we have a guest coming tonight."
"Oh really, who?" She asked. "Just an associate of mine." He told her.
He stood up and moved closer to her, placing a light kiss on her forehead. "I supposed I will have to occupy myself with a walk on the beach," she sighed as he left her to her own devices.
