Chapter Two
Green
Flora Winters
I do not own Smallville.
Summary: Something bad is going down in the small town of Smallville and it’s all Lex’s fault. He has always been too curious for his own good. If only he had not tripped and fallen that day while snooping around the Kent farm when the elder Kent’s were out of town and Clark was at school.
Chapter Two
A beautiful woman stood in the midst of glowing green crystals. Some were huge beyond description, while others were the same size or smaller than her. Her skin was like pale porcelain and her eyes made emeralds pale in comparison. Glowing green lights slithered around her willowy frame like serpents. Her hair was the exact same color of the stones that were all about her. It flowed over and around her shoulders as smoothly as water would over pebbles in a stream. Her lips were full and sensual and were begging to be kissed.
Those emerald eyes fell upon the one looking at her. She slowly opened that seductive mouth and the screams of millions spilled forth.

Lex shot up out of his sleep in a cold sweat. He gazed around his dark bedroom and looked over at his clock. It was only four in the morning, “I guess I should not have had that scotch.”
He rubbed his temples and lay back down on his pillow. He still had goose bumps, and a cold chill went down his spine. All those screams, he could still hear them. A few minutes later his eyes closed, and he was out like a light.
********************************************
Clark had missed the bus again and Pete made another ten bucks off Chloe. Clark used his super speed and made it to school just a little after the bus arrived. He did not want to look too conspicuous. Chloe smiled and punched Pete in the shoulder as she passed by goofy Clark to concoct some evil story to write for the Torch.
He got to his locker and suddenly hissed in pain as he opened it. He looked over to see Lana smiling at him, “Hi Clark.”
Clark smiled weakly, “Hi Lana, how are you?”
“I’m good,” she said looking closer at him, “Are you alright? You look really pale.”
Clark gave her another weak smile, “I’m fine. I got to get to class,” he said waving, “See you later Lana.”
He walked by her and she said, “See you Clark, Whitney, hi.”
Clark rolled his eyes, “I should have thrown that stupid necklace into the lake.”

Lex woke up and squinted at the light shining though his very expensive curtains. His head was killing him and his body ached. The dream he had disturbed him greatly. He had never dreamed anything quite like that before. Maybe he should cut back on the Sci-fi movies or something.
The woman had been more beautiful than any woman Lex had ever laid eyes on, and Lex Luthor knew a lot of very beautiful women. They would all wither and look like hags compared to the beauty of the woman he saw in his dreams.
Lex got out his journal and began to record her physical characteristics. He put in that she had emerald eyes, green hair, green lights that clothed her, and that she was very tall and thin. She had been beyond super model gorgeous. Her skin had been as pale as the moons light in the night sky. He then thought for a moment and described her mouth and the screams that came from it.
He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. All those screams came back and he grabbed his head almost falling out of the chair in pain. He cried out and then it was gone as quickly as it had come. He looked around the room to see that glass had shattered. He gasped in shock and said to no one in particular, “Damn and those were one of a kind.”
********************************************
Clark was sitting at the lunch table with Chloe and Pete. Lunch today was beyond the word disgusting, and Chloe was trying her very best to link it to a meteor mutant who was hell bent on making the students of Smallville High suffer this terrible food for the rest of their days at this school.
Clark inhaled his fries and burger and then looked up at Chloe who was glaring at him, “What?”
She just looked at him and said, “Never mind Clark,” she sighed, “I see you’re enjoying this garbage.”
He drunk the milk carton dry and sipped his juice cup, “I’m sorry, what?”
He winced when she gave him her Chloe is not happy look and he was about to apologize when he got a face full of fries. Pete snickered. Clark looked at her and laughed while she rolled her eyes and started to write some notes down on her pad.
Clark was about to say something but was interrupted when the cell Lex had given him went off. He quickly pulled it out of his jacket pocket and answered, “Hello.”
Lex’s voice came in loud and clear, “Hi farmboy.”
Clark rolled his eyes, “Hi Lex, what’s up?”
“A lot actually,” Lex said, “I was wondering, can you come by the castle after school?”
Clark thought for a moment, “I should be able to,” and then he got worried, “Is everything alright?”
“For the time being,” Lex said, “See you later then.”
Clark was about to ask what he meant by for the time being but the phone went dead before he could ask. Chloe and Pete saw the look of confusion on his face and Chloe asked, “Is everything ok?”
Clark smiled, “For the time being.”
**********************************************
Clark made his way to Lex’s office when he heard Lex arguing with someone and the sound of a glass being broken. He ran through the door just as Lionel ran out passed him as an object sailed by Clark’s head shattering against the wall.
“And stay out,” Lex yelled not looking up from his desk.
Clark just stood there in complete silence until Lex came back to himself and looked up from his desk noticing Clark standing there in the doorway.
He quickly came around the table, “I’m sorry you had to see that Clark.”
“It’s ok,” Clark said, “Your dad actually looked scared.”
“He thought he would go and pull another one over on me,” Lex said running a hand over his smooth scalp, “But, this time, I snapped.”
Clark nodded, “Is everything ok?”
Lex smiled for the first time that day and offered Clark a seat on the couch, “Let’s go out tonight.”
Clark’s eyes widened and he shook his head in confusion and Lex noticed this and quickly said, “Not like that Clark.”
Clark felt stupid and put his head down so Lex would not see the disappointment in his eyes and the embarrassed flush he had. Sometimes he really could be so stupid. He mentally kicked himself.
Clark looked back up at him, “So, what did you have in mind?”
“I figured we could go to a club in Metropolis,” Lex told him.
He watched a grin form on Clark’s face and then it quickly vanished, “I don’t think my parents would let me Lex. It’s a school night, and I have chores that need to be done. Plus I’m only sixteen.”
Lex loved it when Clark babbled like a fool when he got nervous. It was so damn adorable. He wanted to walk right up to him and just kiss those pouting lips.
Lex gave him an understanding smile and turned to walk back to his desk when Clark quickly said, “But,” and Lex turned back around, “We could go for a drive, or go to the Talon for coffee. I hate coffee, but I think I can tolerate it for you, and then we can just do whatever afterwards.”
Lex had not caught the last part of what Clark had said. He was still caught on the whole, “I can tolerate it for you.”
He quickly turned around to hide the joy and the relief that was more than likely showing on his face. Clark really did want to hang out with him. He so did not deserve to have a friend like Clark, but here he was.
“Sound like a plan,” Lex told him, “Just call me when you get done with your chores.”
Clark smiled, “Of course.”
Lex walked Clark to the door and put a hand on his broad shoulder, “Thanks Clark.”
Clark smiled at the friendly touch. He loved Lex’s touches of endearments. He turned around and gave Lex his goofy grin, “What are friends for?”
Lex released his shoulder and Clark took off at a jog down his drive. He closed the door and leaned back against it smiling like a damn fool. Everyone else might hate him, but at least he knew Clark would be there for him. He always was.

“Clark,” Jonathan asked seeing his son zip back and forth all over the farm at tremendous speed getting everything done as quickly as he could, “What’s the rush son?”
He stopped in front of his dad which made Jonathan blink in surprise, “Going out tonight.”
“With who,” his dad asked him.
“With Lex,’ Clark answered as the hay looked as though it was flying up over the fence, and for Clark to reappear back in front of him.
“Clark,” Jonathan told him patiently, “You know I don’t like you hanging around Lex Luthor.”
“Dad,” Clark actually whined, “Lex is my friend, he’s my best friend.”
Jonathan cut him off, “Pete and Chloe are your best friends.”
“Can’t I have three,” he asked.
Jonathan sighed and rubbed his hand over his mouth, “It’s a school night.”
“I’ll be home by eleven,” Clark told him as he quickly put fence posts in the ground.
Jonathan really had no choice. When Clark set his mind to doing something there was just no stopping him. He let out a defeated sigh, “Just call if there’s trouble.”
“Dad,” Clark called to him and Jonathan stopped his leaving and turned back to see his son smiling, “Thanks dad.”
Jonathan nodded to him and made his way to the house. Clark then went back into super speed to fix the fence and feed the cows. He was so happy. He was going out with Lex, and he actually got permission from his dad.
*******************************************8
Clark was standing in front of his mirror with his hair still wet from his shower. His hair had gotten so long and shaggy it was falling into his eyes.
He quickly put on a good pair of jeans and a green t-shirt. Sometimes he wished he could wear nice clothes like Lex, but then again his clothes were more comfortable than Lex’s looked.
He smiled at himself in the mirror and noticed that his mother was standing behind him. He turned around to see her walk over to sit on his broken bed. He woke up floating a few days ago and fell.
“What’s up mom,” Clark asked her while trying to do something with his hair.
She smiled at him, “I was just wondering what your and Lex’s plans are for the night,” she said, “My goodness Clark, just give it up baby, your hair is fine the way it is.”
Clark smiled at her in the mirror, “We are going to go for a drive and then stop in at the Talon to have coffee,” he told her and then thought, “And maybe go to Crater Lake to hang out for awhile.”
She smiled up at him and got to her feet walking over to him, “Have a good time.”
She kissed him on the cheek and then hugged him. Then before Clark knew what her dark intentions were she ran her hands all through his hair messing it up and proceeded to run from the room yelling, “Be home by eleven!”
He just stood there in complete horror. He was too afraid to turn around and look at himself. Throwing his head back in aggravation he looked at himself and laughed. It was the way it always looked, wild and untamable. Clark just shook his head and went to put on some sox and his good sneakers.
****************************************
Clark was coming down the stairs when he heard a, “Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Kent.”
“Hello Lex,” Martha said in warm greeting.
Jonathan just nodded his head and Lex took that as a he was not going to shoot him gesture.
“Hey Lex,” Clark said entering the room.
Lex looked Clark over and hid the delight in his eyes as Clark did the same, “Ready to go? I’ll have him home before eleven.”
Clark was too busy admiring his black pants and his purple shirt to pay any attention to what was going on around him. Purple always looked good on Lex. He was then brought back by a hand on his shoulder, “Ready to go?”
“Of course,” Clark said.
He hugged his dad bye and kissed his mom on the cheek, and then proceeded to follow Lex out to his newest car. It was not as flashy as the others, but Clark never really paid that much attention to what Lex drove. He was more interested in the man behind the wheel.
They both got in and Lex drove slowly out of the drive, and once they hit the road he turned into a driver out of hell. Clark could not help but laugh and Lex only poured on the speed.
*********************************************
“How’s school going Clark,” Lex asked him as they were pulling into the Talon parking lot.
“It’s going well so far,” Clark told him as he undid his seatbelt.
“Your grades,” he asked.
“Passing,” Clark told him.
“Passing?”
“Yeah,” Clark said, “As in all A’s.”
Lex snorted and then smiled at him as they both made their way inside. Clark just rolled his eyes and followed Lex to a table.
They both sat down and Clark turned pale and knew who it was before the, “Hi Clark, Lex.”
“Clark,” Lex asked seeing how pale he had gotten, “Are you ok?”
“Yeah,” Clark told him, “Hi Lana, I would like a Pepsi please.”
Lex smiled and told her that he would love a coffee. She smiled and bounced off to get them their drinks.
Lex put a hand on Clark’s arm, “Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Can we get our drinks to go,” Clark asked just as Lana walked up with the drinks, “Here you go guys, Clark you ok?”
He nodded and Lex took the drinks telling Lana that they had to be going. She smiled and gave Clark a hug and he thanked the gods that the stone did not touch him even though he wanted to scream in agony. She let him go and he gave her a forced smile and quickly followed Lex out.
Once he got outside he felt fine and noticed Lex was looking at him with concern. He smiled at Lex and took his Pepsi from him and walked over to Lex’s car.
“Would you care to explain what all that was about Clark,” Lex asked gently.
Clark kept silent for a few seconds trying to think of a good lie that he had not already used before but decided to tell the truth, “Sorry Lex,” he said, “I just don’t feel like being around Lana right now.”
Lex hid his confusion and excitement at that statement, “Really?”
“Yeah,” Clark told him, “I kind of have my eye on someone else I care deeply about.”
Lex felt really confused now, “But I thought you were really in love with the lovely Miss Lang?”
He watched as Clark’s face turned a lovely shade of crimson, “I thought I did,” he said, “But feelings change. Do you want to go to Crater Lake?”
Lex was confused, excited and then just plain blown out of the water. He nodded and Clark smiled. His mind was in turmoil. Clark was interested in someone else. Of course Clark was, he’s in high school after all. High school crushes changed all the time. Whoever this new bitch Clark was interested in was damn lucky. He wished them a nice and painful death.
********************************************
Lex followed Clark to a bunch of huge boulder that seemed to line the shore of the lake. He had to admit that this place was very beautiful at night. The lake looked like the sky. Billions of stars glittered on its still surface.
Clark took Lex’s hand to help him up on the big rock and they both sat down looking out over the lake. It had done started to get a little cool out and the sound of the water was soothing. Clark laid back to look up at the sky.
“I come here to think or to vent,” Clark told him.
Lex filed that information away under a cute little icon with Clark’s face all goofy looking. He smiled despite himself and turned to look at Clark, “What do you think about?”
“Nothing and everything,” Clark told him, “Life, love, school, grades, Chloe, Pete, mom, dad, you,” he ranted on worrying that he had put too much emphasis on the “you”.
Lex looked out over the lake smiling. Not only had Clark said that he came here to sometimes think about him, but he did not mention Lana at all. Had he really gotten over her? He even wondered what Clark thought about him. He then decided to ask, “What do you vent about?”
“What is this,” Clark said teasingly, “Ask Clark a hundred questions night?”
“Of course,” Lex said, “Now tell me what you sometimes vent about.”
“Tons of things,” Clark said, “Mostly just school related. My dad won’t let me play football. The Torch drives me up the wall, but I love spending time with Chloe. Lately it’s been mostly about how my dad treats you.”
Clark realized his mistake and shut his mouth. Lex turned to see green eyes looking at him in horror.
“It’s alright Clark,” Lex told him reassuringly, “It’s no secret that your dad does not like me. I am a Luthor after all.”
“He just sees the name,” Clark said sadly, “Not the person.”
Lex had no idea what to say to that. He was silent for a few moments and then dared to ask, “What kind of person do you see when you look at me Clark?”
Clark looked at him, “Do you really want an honest answer?”
Lex cocked his head to the side, “It would be nice.”
Clark looked back up at the sky and said, “I see a person who is afraid to be him self all the time for fear of what his father might think.”
Lex was silent and Clark went on, “I see a person who would never willingly do anything to hurt the ones he cares most about.”
Lex looked over at Clark and then closed his eyes, “Is that really what you see Clark?”
“You told me to tell the truth,” Clark said afraid that he had really hurt Lex.
“But,” Lex said, “I have done some pretty terrible things Clark.”
Clark looked at him, “Never to me Lex.”
Lex looked deep into his eyes, “Are you so sure?”
“Of course,” Clark said, “You are my best friend Lex. I love you.”
Clark’s eyes suddenly went wide realizing that he had just said three little words that could destroy everything.
Lex sat very still. Was he shaking? A Luthor never shakes. Did Clark just say three little words that he had been waiting so long to hear come out of the beautiful farmboy’s mouth? Are those tears in my eyes? Why are there tears in my eyes? A Luthor never cries.
Clark reached out slowly, “Lex, I’m sorry. I know you’re mad. I should never have said that. It was wrong.”
Lex’s head snapped to look at him so fast it startled Clark and he fell over backwards into the water with a gurgled yelp. Lex scrambled to his knees and moved to the edge of the rock and shouted, “Clark!”
Clark came up spitting water, “I’m ok.”
“Thank God,” Lex cried, “Your dad would have killed me if I brought home your drowned body.”
Clark looked up at him hesitantly, “You’re not mad,” he asked shyly.
“Of course not Clark,” Lex said feeling so very happy, “You’re my best friend to. You’re my only friend, and I, I, I love you to.”
Clark’s face lit up and he swam to the rocks to climb out. Lex helped him up and quickly hugged him. Clark was surprised by the embrace he had to ask, “Lex, your clothes?”
“Who cares about my clothes,” Lex said, “I thought you had hurt yourself.”
Clark hung his head, “Sorry.”
“You should be,” Lex snapped, “Your dad would have filled me with bullets and then mounted my head on his wall.”
Clark snorted but then realized he would not tell Lex yes his dad was more than capable of doing such a thing, but he could not help himself, “Nah, dad would just shoot you and mom would use you to fertilize her rose bushes.”
Lex gulped, “Thanks Clark,” he said, “I’m going to have nightmares now,” Lex told him as glowing emerald eyes flashed through his mind.
He gasped and lost his balance but Clark caught him in his arms. He was shaking as if cold, and realized that he was cold, and he was being held by a very wet drop dead sex farmboy.
“Lex,” Clark asked worriedly, “Are you ok?”
“Yeah,” he said through chattering teeth, “I’m just a bit cold.”
“Let’s get to the car and put some heat on,” Clark told him.
Lex nodded his head and took a step just as blinding pain hit him right between the eyes. He cried out and pitched forward onto the dewy grass not even hearing Clark shout out his name.
