Chap 2

Sam finally found his voice and looked over at Dean."What is so interesting out there?" He turned slightly from the window and met his brother's puppy eyes.
"The car, she's in the car." Sam looked even more confused for a moment. "Amber had a girl, Sam. I picked her up really early this morning and she's in the car." Once again Sam's eyes flew wide open and he stood up so fast he got dizzy.
"She's in the car, my...niece is in the car?" Dean walked over to his little brother and a slight smile showed up on his face for a brief moment. It made Sam's heart soar to see that little smile even for a second.
"Yeah Sammy, she's in the car. And she has no intention of getting out apparently. She hates me, hates you because you're my brother. I drove to Stanford from San Antonio...It's been a really long day." Dean said softly finally sitting on the edge of Sam's bed.
"You left a what? A ten year old girl alone in a car..here!?" He winced at Sam's words and then looked at him helplessly.
"She's almost ten, she wouldn't come out of the car and I needed to talk to you. She's alright, I made her promise to honk the horn if there was a problem."
Sam ran his hands through his hair and sat next to his brother. "Dean, she's a nine year old girl you can't leave here out there alone. Don't be like dad, she needs you." Dean made a noise, suspiciously like a snort and layed back on the bed.
"Sammy, we both know that she needs someone right now but she's determined it won't be me. She's very stubborn, kinda reminds me of you actually." Dean wanted to be annoyed but the fact that she could be anything like Sam made him smile. "Maybe you can turn those puppy eyes on her and she will come out, could you try Sammy?"
"It's Sam, and I could try to talk to her for you if you want." Sam's words died off when he felt Dean move on the bed so his head ended up in Sam's lap. Dean had never done this, not once that Sam could remember but he immediately started to run his hand through his brother's blonde hair, trying to soothe him.
"I'm scared Sammy, what person in their right mind leaves a child in my care." The soft sigh that came from Dean nearly broke Sam's heart. He leaned down to kiss Dean on the forehead, but at the last second Dean tilted his head up and their lips met. Sam closed his eyes and suddenly had flashbacks of nights long past. Nights of sweaty skin, shushed moans and sticky sheets. He felt his face flush and his body tighten with excitement. Dean's scent filled his senses and almost made him dizzy as his older brother started to sit up, not breaking the kiss and pulling Sam to him. The kiss was soft and unsure, Dean didn't kiss like that but Sam knew tonight he needed this, and was scared he would be rejected by someone else he loved.
Sam kissed Dean back, deeping the kiss, sliding his arms around his brother's strong shoulders. A quiet moan escaped the younger Winchester's lips a second before there was a knock on the door and the brothers sprung apart like they were on suddenly on fire. Dean stayed on the bed as Sam got up and opened the door. Standing there was a young, willowy, redheaded girl. Sam assumed this must be his niece. She had her mother's long red hair and pale skin. She definitely had Dean's eyes and lips, and Sam stopped himself from smirking when he realized the sullen attitude screaming from her, and her obvious readiness to fight was exactly like himself. She raised a dark eyebrow at Sam as he continued to smile at her.
"Ok you're obviously my geek uncle right? Yeah Dean told me all about you." She went to continue when Dean cut in.
"Mara, one he's not your geek uncle he's your uncle Sam, two Dad not Dean." Mara smirked at Dean's words. Oh yeah that smirk was pure Dean.
"Yeah ok whatever, do you have a bathroom Uncle Sam?" She was being sarcastic but Sam couldn't blame her, it had to be a tough last two weeks.
"Down the hall to the left." He said smiling and she shoved her hands into her hoodie and walked really fast into the bathroom, slammed and locked the door.
"So that's Mara, attitude huh? " Sam shut the front door and walked over, lifting his shoulders in a shrug as he sat down next to Dean.
"She's just trying to deal with it all Dean, it can't be easy." Sam watched as his brother chewed on his lower lip and then nodded.
"I know I just, she's so much like her mom and you, she's whip smart and has to push as hard as she can, and I don't have one fucking clue what to do with her. How the hell do I live my life with a nine year old girl?" Sam gave Dean a long look and then sighed.
"I can't let you do this on your own, you need help." Dean grinned at Sam and hugged him hard.
"Thanks Sammy, I knew I could count on you."
"Yeah yeah, it's Sam by the way and I don't know how much help I will be. I don't know how to handle a nine year old girl either." Dean's grin went away suddenly and he looked at his little brother.
"But Sammy, school. I can't make you leave, I'm sorry what was I thinking?" Sam rolled his eyes as once again Dean ignored his request to be called Sam and hugged him, smiling.
"I will take the semester off, and come back for next year it will be fine don't worry." Dean smiled wide at him and Sam knew, he'd give anything to see that smile everyday. It hit him in that moment, the reason he never had girlfriends that lasted more than a few months...he loved Dean and he would never love anyone else he way he loved his brother.
