"Well Nicodemus. I'm honored to have you as a crewman" Janeway held out a polite hand, which the boy shook, with a polite dignity.
"Thank you Captain"
"Doctor you may want to start a Med file for our newest Torres, or is he a Hansen? or a Paris perhaps?"
"Are far as I'm concerned he's a Torres-Hansen, or is it Hansen-
Torres" B'Elanna mused aloud.
"Hansen-Torres" Seven stated. "It's alphabetical" she explained at B'Elanna's lifted brow.
"Oh my ladies. The fact remains that no matter whom Seven's counterpart sent him to, his father's counterpart is also aboard this ship. And in some crazy way he does have right's" Janeway rubbed her brow feeling a force 10 migraine coming on.
"But Captain Seven sent him to us because Helmbo- Paris wasn't handling being a father well" Torres began to rage.
"From the impression I got he was not much of a father" Seven coincided.
"Yes. But that was his 'counterpart'. For all we know 'our' Tom could be a wonderful father. So could Harry for that matter. We have to accord to his right's Lt." Janeway reasoned.
"But Captain Seven sen thim away from the man why give him right back" Torres' voice rose.
Nico remained silent for most of the exchanged now squeaked at the supressed anger in B'Elanna's voice.
Janeway finally returned her attention to the object of their argument "He doesn't need to hear this Lt. Torres perhaps you should put him to bed or something, then we can reconvine"
"Yes Captain" B'Elanna didn't want to cause her son anymore problems because of his immature father. "Come on Nico let's go home" B'Elanna lifted him from the biobed fitting him against her hip. Seven belatedly moved to her side. Together they moved to the Sickbay doors.
"And Lt." Janeway called crossing to a nearby work terminal.
"Yes Captain" B'Elanna almost growled, unwilling to allow Nico to hear anything further pertaining to his custody.
"I'm authorizing extra rations to your account, as well as acquiring family quarters for you and Seven. Congratulations. Be in my Ready Room in Twenty minutes" Janeway said smartly.
B'Elanna began to smile "Thank you Captain"
Janeway smiled back and gave a little wave "Good night Nicodemus"
Nico nodded his head politely "Good night Captain"

Seven stroked the smooth brow of her now sleeping son, and effieciently tucked him in. Quietly she crossed the room and disappeared into the living area, careful not to wake him.
B'Elanna sat on the couch staring away into nothing. So deep in thought that she jumped a good meter when Seven sat down beside her.
"Do you think we'll have to honor his right's" B'Elanna's voice was more worried than Seven had ever heard it.
"I do not know Lanna. But I do not wish to make him unhappy. If having Ensign Paris around him does that,I do not care what the Captain thinks is right. I will not allow him to hurt my son" Seven enveloped her wife in a reassuring hug.
"Protectiv wha what's yours. You'd of made a great Klingon Annika" B'Elanna joked.
"You would not have made a good borg my love. The oneness of the Collective would have destroyed the perfection that is 'you'" Seven said seriously. "We must report to the ready room now Lanna"
"I know"
B'Elanna just prayed everything would turn out well. It just had to.

"So your saying that I have a son" Paris asked for the 4th time in as many minutes.
"Yes" Janeway repeated.
"And he's here" Harry Kim asked again.
"Yes"
"And he's with Seven and B'Elanna in their quarters right now" Paris asked, again.
"Yes" Janeway thought she must sound like a broken record.
"Can I see him"
"N"
"
"Yes"
"No"
"Why not" Paris whined.
"Because he is resting" Seven said as she and B'Elanna entered the Captains Ready Room.
"Oh. Then can we see him tomorrow?" Paris asked.
"I suppose. If his 'mothers' think he's ready" Janeway said slowly.
"He'll never be ready" B'Elanna stated flatly.
"You can't keep me from my own son Lanna" Paris countered.
"But I can keep you from 'MINE'" B'Elanna's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"Lt. please your not making this any easier" Janeway tried to be diplomatic.
"Lanna he just wants to see him" Harry offered.
"But what if Tom just 'seeing' him hurts him? His other 'father' barely acknowledged his existance" B'Elanna entreated.
"You don't know that Lt." Janeway broke in.
"Yes I do I saw it first hand. Nico and I had made some 'minor Improvements' on the EMH's physical parameters. Paris came in
and didn't even acknowledge him. Looked through him like he wasn't there. but he managed to annoy everyone" B'Elanna growled.
"My counterpart also said as much in her letter to us" Seven added. "You yourself has read that Captain"
"I know Seven. But that was not 'this' Tom Paris. We have to give him a chance" Janeway explained "We can't hold something against him that 'he' hasn't done"
"But what if 'I' do not wish for 'him' to see Nicodemus" Seven said stubbornly.
Janeway paused at that seeing the pugnascious look on the young woman's face. 'She's beginning to act like her wife', Janeway thought.
"Do you have a good reason?"
"Yes. I believe that deep down he is the same 'stupid' man that his counterpart is" Seven snapped off.
The Ready Room was silent. And the silence was deafining.
Harry was the first to speak.
"There is no reason to insult him Seven"
"One day ago he asked me to dinner Ensign. He is joined with you and yet he asked me to accompany him on romantic terms. In the short time I have had contact with Nicodemus he has shown more maturity then I have seen the entire time I have known
Ensign Paris" Seven reasoned logically.
Janeway, Torres, and Kim all turned to look at Tom.
"It was a joke?" he tried to cover his childish actions.
"Well Ensign I have to admit she's right" Janeway said leaning back "Just yesterday both my wife and the other B'Elanna threw themselves at you in a rage due to your behavior"
B'Elanna looked surprised "And your still considering letting that wonderful 'impressionable' child be in constant contact with this guy?"
"He is his father Lt." Janeway reasoned.
"But Nicodemus doesn't look a thing like him. I want a paternity test" B'Elanna said grasping at straws.
"Lt-" Janeway began.
"And he doesn't act like him" she continued.
"B'Elanna" Janeway almost yelled at her chief engineer "I can see you're not going to be fair about this. So I'm making a decision.
He will meet with Ensign's Kim and Paris tomorrow in 'your' quarters. Then we will gauge his reaction to them and see where it goes from there"
"And what if I don't let them in my quarters" B'Elanna challenged.
"Then I'll throw you in the brig and give sole custody to the father"
