Prologue

Prologue
Wilhemina Blackwood was different to all the others at Smallville High. She was beautiful, enigmatic and sophisticated but also shy and quiet as well as being somewhat of an anachronism. Clark had always thought she was pretty and admired her seemingly superior intelligence but given his once all consuming love for Lana, he never really noticed her beyond that but since Lana had moved on and after everything that happened with Alicia, that began to change.
Every so often he'd see her when he went to the library to study, reading things like Nietzsche, Sartre and HP Lovecraft and couldn't help but watch her as he grew more and more fascinated with the aubergine haired beauty.
Mina had always secretly had a crush on Clark but knowing he loved Lana, she didn't want to interfere but suddenly she felt everything change. Suddenly she saw him around more often and in the times that she had, she constantly felt his pale green eyes on her.
Ever since Clark had first seen Mina in English class he noticed she never once smiled and it made him wonder if he could make her smile just once, even if it shattered that mysterious allure of hers, what it might look like. From far away it looked as though Mina's eyes were pitch black but in the one time he had managed to see them close up he saw that Mina's eyes weren't black at all but the darkest blue he'd ever seen. Since then he hadn't seen anyone else with eyes that dark and began to wonder about just how "different" she was.
Mina on the other hand had always known that there was more to Clark Kent than he let on. Everyone did, but not in the way she did. She, unlike the others who had suspected something was up with him, knew he wasn't human, she could feel it. But Clark's energy signature was like nothing she had ever felt before and being a vampire, she had encountered every supernatural being that had come through Smallville. Aside from him being easy on the eye and being an all round nice guy, Clark's "uniqueness" was what drew Mina to him.
In her weaker moments when her senses run amok, she felt several different things from him; the strongest being loneliness. ith that she realised that setting aside their obvious vampire/alien difference, that the two of them were a lot alike. Neither of them could let anyone in from fear of exposure and then Mina had to deal with the fact that if she did ever manage to let someone in that in time they would grow old and die while she lived eternally and would never age a day over at least eighteen. Then of course there was the threat of hunters whether they be the kind that kill or the kind that lock beings like them in cages and study them like animals.
One night Mina is in the library researching for her history assignment when she looks up, feeling Clark's presence. As she glances at him behind her thick black framed glasses, Clark suddenly feels less self conscious about having to wear glasses himself; figuring if someone as beautiful as Wilhemina Blackwood could get away with it then maybe there wa hope for him yet.
Hearing this thought, Mina smiles faintly and looks back down.
Time passes asnd Mina looks up again to, as is becoming a common occurence, find Clark staring at her. She smiles shyly and waves then he waves back and they reurn to what they're doing, occasionally exchanging a furtive glance then she gets up to look for a book on Elizabeth Bathory and when she returns, Clark is gone; their moment over.
