Chapter 2

AN: Okay, I wrote that there were 20 or so pods. I watched the movie last night though and realized that there should only be 12 pods. Reason: Adama got a message at the end of the movie stating that there were only 12 Cylon Models. Also, Number Six stated the same, her being the sixth model.

Let me know if I’m right or not, but I count six so far that we know of. The PR guy from the movie (the one that got left at the armory), the guy who was jettisoned by Roslin, Number Six, Xena (lol) and the doctor on Caprica…oh and Boomer. Did I forget anyone? I have my suspicions regarding other possible models (like Tigh’s wife but that could be just because I don’t like her lol). But I won’t include those suspicions with this story.

Also, this story takes place before the second season finale. After seeing it, I thought of a way to include it but that won’t be for awhile.

Again, this is unbeta’d. While I am using spellcheck, I’m doing nothing else. This is just so I can get it out of my head so I can continue my other two stories. I’ve given myself a goal for each story before returning to this one and fixing it up, fleshing it out and making it more to my liking. The title is also a working one. I kinda like it but I don’t (does that make sense? lol).

The response has been so much more than I expected. I really didn’t expect any reviews on the first chapter especially as rough as it was. Thank you so much to Lily Cat, JonnyG, Darklight, Polaris and EvilClone for taking the time to review. Please keep them coming there a great inspiration.

“I’m in.” Boomer stated as she watched the screen in front of her come alive with data. Helo and Apollo stood behind her at the end of the long room. In front of them the compartments laid before than in two even rows of six.

At that moment, Kara and Commander Adama entered the room. Behind him stood the President of the 12 colonies, Laura Roslin along with her VP and resident Cylon expert Gaius Baltar. Trailing behind the President and the VP, Dr. Cottle as well as Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol. The group paused at the first two pair of compartments.

Laura slowly walked to the pod on her right. Reaching out slowly she placed her hand against the clear material of the cover. Adama watched as she leaned forwards trying to get a closer look at the figure within. The opaque liquid made it slightly difficult to discern the features of the figure it held within.

Gaius Baltar stood frozen before even reaching the first set. His mind’s attention already turned to the voice and soft caress of a woman only he could see.

“Isn’t this wonderful, Gaius?” the smoky voice of the woman he knew in the flesh penetrated his mind. Gaius covertly looked over to the tall blond. He was amazed about the absolutely giddiness of the Cylon specter. She laughed and brought her hands up to her mouth. “I’m so excited. I wonder what she’s like.”

“Who?” He whispered, quickly glancing around to notice that the other occupants attention were diverted away from him.

“My mother. The one in which I was made from.” She strolled up to Gaius and caressed his cheek. The happiness on her face soon turned to worry. “Do you think she’ll like me, Gaius? Do you think she would be proud?”

Gaius scoffed softly. “I doubt that since you have her imprisoned here for…exactly how long have they been here?”

Gaius soon noticed that his words had once again changed the inner emotions of the woman in front of him. Angry tightened her face as she glared at him. “We did it for their protection. They would have died prematurely if we hadn’t suspended animation.”

As quickly as the wind changes, her face softened and she once again caressed his cheek and moved that caress to the nape of his neck. “Humans are so fragile, Gaius. They become ill over the tiniest organism and they age. We had to protect those that meant so much to us. By keeping them here, their safe from disease and the hands of time.”

“How long?” He whispered, closing his eyes at the wonderful sensations her hands created to the tiny hairs of his napes.

“Hmm, we encountered them soon after you forced us to leave the 12 colonies. This’ she moved her arm to signal the whole of the base, ‘ was our first home.”

Gaius gasped. “They’ve been like this for over 35 years.”

She smiled and nodded. “And they haven’t aged a single day since than. We made sure of that.”

Adama walked slowly down the middle of the space created by the six pairs of pods. He stopped briefly by Tyrol and looked into the pod. A duplicate of the woman who had shot him laid before him. His face remained expressionless as he glanced at the man that stood next to him. He noticed the awe and confusion that graced the man’s face before turning and continuing his trek to the other Boomer.

“What do we know?” He asked stoic.

“Nothing more than what Boomer has said.” Lee stated. “She’s currently trying to retrieve more information but she’s sure that the people in those pods are from Earth.”

Laura Roslin moved next to the imposing Commander. “How can you be sure?” she asked quietly.

Boomer looked up, grimacing as the slight movement caused the spiceled wire self-injected in her arm rippled in pain. “I…I just know.”

“What else can you tell us?” Adama questioned.

Boomer glanced at the screens in front of her, looking for the information requested.

“I think this was the Cylon home world before the solar flares made it necessary for us to move.” She stopped the streaming information and began to read. “It looks like the ship in the hanger showed up in the outer realm of the system. Having detected it and thinking that it was the 12 colonies coming to push us further away, we powered down all systems to make it seem like the base was unoccupied. But the unknown ship still spotted the base and came to investigate.” She paused momentarily and gasped in awe. “Wait…there’s video of their arrival.”

The screens quickly changed to the scene of the hanger bay that they had arrived on. The empty bay was soon occupied by the same ship they had seen on their way to this room. The group, which enlarged by the other members of the expedition, watched as the ship landed and a hatch in the rear opened, spilling light into the darkened. Shadows of figures obstructed the light and indecipherable speech could be heard from its interior.

Slowly, several figures appeared cautiously from the hatch and made their ways forward. Two of the figures were armed, including one that resembled the first human-like Cylon that Adama had encountered in the armory. After several words were yelled back into the hatch, three more figures appeared. A tall blonde that the group recognized in their brief encounter when she accused Baltar as a traitor and another unknown male and female.

“What are they saying?” Lee asked, bending forward to take a closer look at the screen.

Boomer shook her head. The conversation on the screen continued. “I don’t know.”

Slowly the figures fanned out slightly. While the camera slowly spanned to encompass their movements, the group was able to notice slight movement along the darkened corners of the room but the Earthlings seemed obtuse too.

Suddenly, the shadows moved forward and approached the explorers. The camera also moved in until the group was surrounded by Cylons. While the group was obviously nervous, they remained calm and seemed to try and speak with the Cylons.

“I think the camera is actually one of the drones.” Boomer whispered. The rest remained silent.

The leader, a tall man with sandy brown hair pointed his weapon to the ceiling of the bay and lifted his other hand showing its lack of weapon. An obvious sign of peace that was duplicated by the other shorter armed man. The leader continued to speak but was unanswered by the silent robots that stood surrounding the group.

Another screen changed view points and the Galactica passengers were now watching two viewpoints of the first contact. The second viewpoint showed the hatch once again as it entered the craft. Two females, including the original of the famous reporter, backed away slowly from the approaching robots, the other female obviously attempting to speak with the machine. The large room the Cylons had entered showed machinery all around. A catwalk leading across the upper half of the bay was soon filled with the other five members, including Boomer’s otherself and the otherself of the man they had left at the armory. Kara recognized the otherself of the doctor that she had “killed” on Caprica. He was yelling down to the other two as well as the three Cylons that now occupied his ship.

On the other screen, the group of Cylons attacked, hitting the weapons out of the hands of the humans. Yelling, the five tried to fight back the attacking Cylons.

The Cylons within the ship striked out at the two females, quickly knocking them unconscious before moving to the metal staircase that led up to the catwalk. The five on the catwalk soon spread out at the obvious threat to their ship. With a quick statement from the tall black man, one of the females ran deeper into its hull while the others gathered weapons and began firing upon the drones.

On both screens, the Galactica visitors watched as the Cylons quickly disarmed and knocked unconscious the humans without ever firing the shot. The screen showing the outer hanger bay showed the five humans lying on the floor in a jumble and quickly went dark soon after. The last screen showed the same but soon moved to the catwalk as the Cylon moved up to the upper levels of the ship. The Galactica crew saw their first glimpse of the inner ship as the Cylon quickly moved down the narrow hallway.

“He’s chasing the last female.” Lee stated.

Kara held her breathe, understanding somewhat the horror of being chased by one of these machines.

An open doorway revealed screens and boards all lighted up. As the Cylon crossed the low doorway, the remaining conscious female could be seen, quickly keying in a set of commands into the largest of these machines. She looked over her shoulder briefly at the approaching Cylon before executing a series of keystrokes. A spilt second before the Cylon grabbed her, the lights and screens went blank.

“She wiped the hard drive.” Tyrol whispered.

The Cylon grabbed the woman around the neck and lifted her above the ground. As she struggled against the metal hand, she gasped a harsh string of words at the machine.

Only one word was intelligible to those that watched as the woman slowly lost consciousiness. Earth.
