Chapter 2

“So you have absolutely no idea who clobbered you?” Bodie asked the pretty young nurse. She was badly bruised and beaten and would have a hell of a black eye very soon but she was brave and was letting them know all she knew.

“No sorry. I did see Mrs. Fieldrich with Professor Harrington-Smyth on Monday I think. They were having quite a heated discussion. Something about getting more babies and asking more for them. Mrs. Fieldrich was saying something about when the girls think they are signing an admission form substitute it for an adoption form and just take the baby straight away. It’s so cruel. Those poor babies.” She was visibly upset. Bodie took her hand. The knuckles were bruised and swollen. He knew what that felt like.

“You’re doing the right thing Amanda. We will stop them I promise you and we will return whatever kid’s we can. We’ve got a meeting tomorrow with Mrs. Fieldrich and hopefully it will stop there.”

“Be careful. She’s mean but she’s smart. Who’s going with you?” Amanda asked carefully, the split lip was playing havoc with her mouth.

“One of my colleagues – Rhiannon.” Bodie was gently rubbing his thumb over the swollen knuckles. He, same as Ray, truly hated to see a woman hurt.

“Make sure you get your stories straight. She’ll know if you’re lying and she will try to trip you up.”

“Like how?” Ray asked. He was getting a tad worried about this.

“Things like when you got married, how long ago, wedding details, how long you dated. Stuff like that. Things any normal couple would know without thinking about it. If you want my advice, keep it simple, she’s clever.” Amanda was getting sleepy again; they could both see that.

“OK luv, you take care and well be back tomorrow.” Bodie gave her hand a gentle squeeze and followed Doyle from the room.

Rhiannon and Betty were in the cafeteria chatting about last night.

“So where did Bodie take you?” Betty wanted details

“Renaldo’s.” Betty nearly choked on her tea.

“Wow! – He is out to impress. Then what?” Rhiannon was remembering the night with a silly grin on her face.

“We went dancing and walked around for a bit and then went back to Bodie’s for a night cap and did some more dancing.”

“Oh I think I’m jealous. What was he wearing?” Bodie’s fashion sense was well known among the women of CI5. He was a stylish dresser but would be a scuff by the time he’d come off assignment.

“Would you believe a suit?” Rhiannon remembered fondly.

“Oh wow. Bodie looks fantastic in a suit, so does Ray.” Betty had a soft spot for Ray Doyle but she would never tell him. He was a bad enough tease now but if he knew that Betty fancied him, he’d be insufferable.

“Hmm but it was much more fun getting him out of it.” Rhiannon was teasing Betty cause she knew she’d take it the right way.

“Oh Yer and just what are you not telling me?” Betty demanded.

“We were, well” Rhiannon was hedging.

“You were what?” Betty asked impatiently.

“Fooling around.” She admitted quietly. Betty’s eyes were round with astonishment.

“You’re kidding aren’t you? At Rhiannon’s shake of the head, Betty pushed for more details. “Come on, spill. You can’t stop there.” Rhiannon could actually feel herself blushing.

“Well we went back to his place and he put on this soft sexy jazz music and we were dancing around the living room. Oh he’s such a good dancer and he kisses like you would not believe and I figure why not. I mean were both adults and its no one else’s business.” Betty was hanging onto every word.

“Yeah so, come on Rhiannon, stop teasing.”

“We ended up in Bodie’s bedroom fooling around and then Doyle showed up. Bodie was not happy I can tell you – neither was I. I have not been that horny for ages. I got dressed and walked out into the living room and Ray’s eyes nearly popped right out of his head, he was so apologetic but Mr. Cowley wanted them ASAP so what could I do.”

“Ooh how frustrating. Are you seeing him again?” Betty was match making.

“Yes, probably some time today you know was the funniest part of getting interrupted like that?” At Betty’s shake of her head, Rhiannon continued “Bodie nearly went back out in his suit. He was fit to storm out the door and I asked him if he was going out dressed like that and he looked down at his suit like he’d forgotten he had it on. He marched into his bedroom and got changed. I tell you Bodie in a suit might be devastating but Bodie in tight faded old blue jeans is something else indeed.” Rhiannon was remembering the sight fondly. Bodie had stormed out of the bedroom with jeans still unzipped tucking in a t-shirt with a shirt flapping loose around his shoulders. He may have been dishevelled, blue jawed, rumpled and half-dressed but God he was gorgeous.

“Bodie in blue jeans? I don’t think I’ve even seen him in jeans.” Betty was amazed.

“Oh just wait till you do!” Rhiannon replied which a chuckle “They put Ray’s to shame.” Ray’s jeans were a continuing source of amazement to the women of CI5. The simple fact he could get into them was a feat in itself. God they were tight but he had a gorgeous body and could get away with it. So, did Bodie but you never saw him in jeans, until today?

A long low wolf whistle followed Bodie and Doyle down the hall. It came from the secretaries’ pool and there was no way Bodie was going in there today. He’d be eaten alive. He’d copped hell all day because of those damn jeans. He’d been so pissed off at Ray that morning they were the first thing he pulled out of his wardrobe and he’d just put them on without thinking about it. And he was paying the price too. You’d think that no one had ever seen him in jeans. Come to think of it, no one had. These were original Levis 501’s and had cost him a bloody fortune for a pair of jeans and he was not going to wreck them at work. He went through enough clothes as it was.

“God that’s a sight that would make a nun horny?” One of the secretaries commented. At Doyle’s smirk, Bodie knew whom it was directed at – but Ray was in for a shock.

“Hmm two fine arses like that in front of you – mamma mia!” Bodie looked at Ray to see the smirk gone. This teasing was directed at both of them. Oh hell Bodie thought.

“Makes you wish they were coming this way – I’d like to get my hands on those backsides” some one else called out.

“Nah, get em out of those jeans and then make em come!” Bodie turned around in shock. Doyle just stood there shaking his head in amusement. Most of the secretaries were now crowded around in the corridor watching Bodie and Doyle. It was bloody embarrassing the comments these women were coming out with.

“Hah, you’d need a crow bar to get em out of those.” Another one came out with.

“Yeah but think of the fun you could have with em off?” A communal groan of appreciation came from a few of the women.

“Do you lot bloody mind?” No one could call Bodie a prude but this was embarrassing. He felt like a stallion on the auction block.

“Not if you don’t?” Someone called back cheekily. Bodie tried not to crack a smile at that one. It was actually funny.

“Jeez, if I’d know a pair of jeans would get this sort of reaction I’d have worn em sooner.” He shot back cheekily and waited for a come back. He didn’t have to wait long.

“Oh please wear em again – soon!” Doyle snorted in laughter.

“You’ve got competition Ray, better be careful!”

They were still bantering back and forth when Mr. Cowley stuck his head out of his office door looking for them. Bodie was just about to deliver the punch line of a rather ribald joke.

“Don’t you dare finish that joke Bodie!” Cowley knew only too well, what the punch line was, he’d told it to Bodie in the first place. Doyle had slid to the floor in hysterics. He had to hold his ribs from laughing, tears streaming down his cheeks. Bodie had a wicked sense of humour and was one of the best joke tellers that Doyle knew and when he had a captive ordinance – well enough said. The secretaries bolted back to their workstations. Fun was over. Mr. Cowley was trying very hard not to laugh. He would never admit it but he had a soft spot for these two. He’d thrown them into some very hairy situations and they always came through for him. Now he had another one for em.

“My office – now.” Both looked like chastised schoolboys when they shuffled into the office. Bodie winked at Rhiannon as he passed and Betty nearly fainted with the sight of those jeans. My God, they were tight. At the sound of Mr. Cowley clearing his throat both girls blushed – they knew they had been caught perving. Rhiannon just looked up at Mr. Cowley as if to say well what do you expect?

“So what did the young nurse have to say?” Cowley put a whisky in front of both of them and then sat down on the other side of his desk.

“Amanda.” At Cowley’s blank stare Bodie clarified “the nurse, she said that she’d seen Mrs. Fieldrich with Professor Harrington-Smyth and they were arguing about getting more babies.”

“Apparently she wants them to sign the consent forms as soon as they get there and exchange them for the adoption forms so they don’t know what they are signing.” Doyle was getting heated about all this.

“Amanda also said that this Mrs. Fieldrich is clever and we’d better get our stories straight cause she’ll try to trip us up.”

“On what?”

“Personal details.” At Cowley’s raised eyebrows Bodie continued “wedding details, how long we’ve been together, what the wedding was like that sort of stuff.” Mr. Cowley got up and walked over to the outer office.

“Rhiannon and Betty, would you please come in here.” Both girls looked worried but obeyed. Cowley directed them to two chairs beside Bodie and Doyle.

“It seems that we have to get our stories straight and we’ve got just under 24 hours to do it. This is totally out of our league so its up to you girls to help.”

“Us Sir?” Betty looked worried.

“Och, come on Betty. Most men can’t remember their wife’s birthday little one all the other stuff but women always do.” Betty looked ready to argue but Mr. Cowley interrupted her.

“OK answer me this – when did you meet your first boyfriend.”

With no hesitation Betty answered “1st May 1980 Sir at Tower Bridge. He was working at the tourist booth there and his name was Anthony.”

“See, Rhiannon?” Mr. Cowley asked smugly.

“Christmas day 1982 at my Grandmothers in Ireland and his name was Liam.”

“OK Bodie, Doyle?” both shook their heads

“Would not have a clue Sir. I think I was about 12 or 13 or something like that.”

“Doyle.”

“Same Sir, no Idea. Looks like we need the girls to help us.”

“OK I want you all back in this office at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon so we can go through what you’ve come up with and until then vamoose. I don’t want to see you here until then. Go.” All four scrambled out of Cowley’s office as fast as their feet would carry them.

Doyle and Betty were in the back of Bodie’s Capri and Bodie and Rhiannon in the front and they were heading to Bodie’s place. Just how that had eventuated neither girl was quite sure of but here they were.

“OK so what sort of stuff do we have to learn.” Bodie looked at Betty in the rear view mirror quizzically.

“When did we meet.” Rhiannon supplied.

“And where?” Betty supplied.

“How long have we been married.”

“And how long did you date for before hand.”

“And where did you propose.”

“And where did we get married and how many people.”

“No elope – its much more romantic.” Betty supplied with a sigh. Bodie pulled into the gutter, stopped the car and looked at both girls with amazement.

“We’ve only got till tomorrow not next week you know.”

“Yes – its not much well just pick easy dates to remember.” Rhiannon climbed out of the car and walked around to where Doyle was helping Betty out of the back of the Capri.

“God, I’ve not been in the back of a car for ages.”

“Yep and totally unmolested.”

“Yes unfortunately.” Betty replied and walked up the front steps with Rhiannon leaving a gapping Doyle in her wake. Bodie slapped him on the shoulder

“You may just be in luck my son.” Doyle gave him a filthy chuckle.

“God I hope so.” And followed the two girls into the flats.

“Wow – nice.” Betty was impressed. It was one of the nicer CI5 flats and Bodie had been there for about 6 months so he knew he’d probably be moving soon. 8-9 months was about the average but he’d miss this place. He liked it. It was on the second floor at the front and had large bay windows in the living room and his bedroom that looked out over the road below. He walked over and threw open the curtains. He was not often home during the day to appreciate the difference natural light made but the girls were wandering around looking at everything. Rhiannon seemed quite taken with his trophy shelf.

“You are a clever dick aren’t you?” She asked reading the inscriptions on some of them. Most were for karate and shooting, one for motor cross.

“Keeps me fit.” Was Bodie’s only reply.
“I thought Macklin did that?” Betty replied. She’s seen the results of a work out with Brian Macklin all too often – glad the office staff did not have to go through the same training as the agents.

“Macklin is a sadist. Him and his bloody 10-mile runs. Come on lets get on with this.” Doyle plonked down on the sofa and Betty sat next to him – at the far end admittedly but on the same sofa and it was only a two seater.

“OK – when do you want to get married?” Rhiannon was taking notes so not looking at Bodie when she said it.

“Oh when ever you like luv!” he joked back with her. Rhiannon looked at him exasperated.

“Will you be serious – what are you like at remembering dates?”

“Hopeless sorry.” Bodie was sitting on the floor leaning back against the legs of the chair Rhiannon was sitting in.

“OK, birthdays are easiest.” Betty supplied looking at her own notes.

“OK, when is your birthday?” Bodie looked up at her backwards.

“Why – you going to send me a birthday card?” he said.

“No – at least it’s a date you’ll remember and you aren’t going to get in there and forget your wedding date. Well?”

“May 27th. Isn’t it going to look suspicious when they ask me that and they’re both the same day?

“No” Bodie glanced at Doyle puzzled. Doyle just shrugged. He had no Idea either.

“Why not?” Ray asked.

“Because the luckiest day to get married is the grooms’ birthday. Next, how long have we been married.”

“Well it can’t have been his next birthday, that’s only about 8 weeks away.” All were trying to come up with dates.

“What about 3 years?” Doyle supplied.

“Why 3 years.” Betty asked

“That’s how long we’ve been partners. You should be able to remember that.” Bodie gave him a 'thanks very much' look

“OK – 3 years it is.”
“Where did we get married?”

“Paris” Bodie immediately supplied. This one he was determined to win.

“Why Paris – have you ever been to Paris?” Rhiannon asked suspiciously.

“Yes I’ve been to Paris and if you want to elope somewhere romantic were else would you choose? Paris! Have you been there?” He demanded.

“Yes, a long time ago. OK we eloped to Paris.”

“Oh elope to Paris in the spring time to get married.” Betty gushed.

“Now who’s being a die hard romantic.” Doyle teased Betty about it.

“I’m not denying it. You ask any woman were she d like to elope to and 9 out of 10 will say exactly that!”

“No special day with hundreds of guests and the big church and the dress and cars and all the stuff?” Doyle asked curiously.

“Ugh, no way!” Rhiannon recoiled in horror as if struck.

“Why not? I thought that was what all women wanted?” He genuinely did. Every wedding he’d ever been to, and that was not many, was exactly that.

“It’s so tacky and expensive. Besides, all the trimmings don’t mean a thing if you’re marrying the person you love. You only need each other and two witnesses.”

“OK a simple ceremony in Paris, what else?” So far, it was easy things to remember.

“Where did you stay?” Betty asked. Without hesitating, Bodie answered her.

“The Paris Renaissance.” Rhiannon nearly fell off her chair.

“You have got to be kidding. What if they ask us anything about that place? I won’t know what to tell them” Rhiannon was panicking.

“So I’ll tell em.” Bodie was serious.

“You’ve stayed there?” Betty was amazed.

“Yes and I figure if we can afford to buy a baby when just to get into the appointment is ten thousand pounds they wont be expecting us to stay anywhere else. Come on girls, think big.” Bodie smirked up at Rhiannon and she smacked him on the shoulder.

Eventually they got it all sorted out and the details stuck in Bodie’s brain. They were doing some last minute changes when Doyle looked up to ask Bodie something and the question never passed his lips. Bodie was still sitting on the floor at Rhiannon’s feet. She was reading over her notes but her hand left hand was running through Bodie’s hair and she was not even conscious she was doing it. Doyle nudged Betty until she looked at him and nodded towards them. Betty stifled a giggle. Neither was aware they were being watched. Betty was sure she could hear Bodie purring from here. His eyes were closed and he was as relaxed as she’d ever seen him. The diamonds on Rhiannon’s hand were catching the light as they glided through Bodie’s hair. The dark strands against the diamonds made them stand out even more.

“God they look like an old married couple already!” Doyle said to Betty loud enough to get Bodie’s attention.

“Piss off Ray, you’re just jealous!” Bodie mumbled but didn’t move or open his eyes. He was enjoying this far too much to give in to Doyle’s teasing. When Rhiannon had first started playing with his hair he had thought she had wanted his attention but soon realised she was not aware she was even doing it and he’d just sat back and enjoyed it. He loved to have his hair played with but as it was short, no one ever bothered.

“I’ve just realised something.” Rhiannon gave Bodie’s hair a gentle tug so he knew she was talking to him.

“Hmm, what’s that?” He replied lazily.

“What actually is your first name and don’t tell me you were christened just Bodie!” Ray looked up interestedly. He knew that Bodie hated his Christian names so much so that he never used them. He mumbled something but Rhiannon was having none of that.

“I can’t hear you!” She sing songed at him. Resignedly he repeated it.

“William Andrew Philip.” He replied again.

“Nice names – why don’t you use em?” Betty asked curiously.

“Cause I was named after my father and I can’t stand the bastard.” Bodie was not going to elaborate. His father was the reason he’d run away at 14.

“Sorry.” Both Rhiannon and Betty said at once.

“Don’t be.” Bodie did not want to think about his bloody father. It put a damper on the whole night. Up until then, it had actually been fun. He was suddenly restless. “Come on, let’s go out to eat. I’m staving.” The girls rolled their eyes at him. His appetite was also legendary around the corridors of CI5.

“Haven’t you got anything here?” Rhiannon asked puzzled. She was warm and comfortable and not in the mood to go out in the cold. Bodie walked into the kitchen and peered into the fridge.

“Nope – nothing.” Ray walked over the peered into the fridge over his shoulder. He was right. There was 6 cans of beer, 3 apples, ½ bottle of milk, some butter, bacon and eggs for breakfast when he was actually home to eat it and some left over Chinese from last night. That was it.

Betty and Rhiannon were sitting in the lounge watching them and it was a very pleasant sight. At a piercing whistle Rhiannon looked up to meet amused blue and green eyes.

“You are not listening to us are you?” Ray asked laughingly.

“No – perving.” At Betty’s straight forwardness, Ray could feel himself blushing. Bodie chuckled also. The girls were fun.

“I think I should get out of these jeans before I cause any more trouble. They’re no worse than Ray’s.” Bodie looked down at the jeans in question and they were just as tight as Ray’s but he’d been on the receiving end of teasing all day. Instantly the girls complained about that suggestion.

“No don’t!”

“Well leave you alone – promise.” Bodie had to laugh at the crestfallen look on their faces.

“OK, come on lets go eat. What do you fancy?” He and Ray grabbed the girls’ coats and their own and herded them out the door.

“Oh if only you knew lover, if only you knew!” Betty and Rhiannon disappeared down the stairs giggling like schoolgirls.

“God I’d love to turn that comment into reality!” Doyle commented as he waited for Bodie to set the security locks.

“You and me both sunshine, you and me both.” Bodie replied and followed the girls down to the car.

“Ah Mr. & Mrs. Bodie, do come in.” Mr. Cowley held the door open as Rhiannon and Bodie, Betty and Doyle all trouped into his office. He was enjoying this immensely. It was not often he had the opportunity to tease either of these two and he was not going to deny himself either.

“Sir.” At Cowley’s puzzled inquiry Bodie continued “shut up.” Cowley smiled at him.

“Now Bodie, eventually there was always going to be a Mrs. Bodie and you know it. How did the integration go? All your personal details settled then?” At the nods around he was convinced.

“OK, the appointments in an hour and we need to get in the door and find out what is happening to not only these girls but their children. We’ve got at much details about these two as we can get but its still going to be up to you. We’ve no script we can go but so just get what you can out of them. I want to know how they select who gets these children and who doesn’t. Is it a case of just having enough money or do they screen parents. Get as much out of them as you can – you’d better get going, you can’t be late.”

Bodie slammed the Capri door shut after he’d helped Rhiannon in and walked around to the driver’s side. He could tell she was nervous. Her hands were shaking.

“Hey, you’ll do fine. You look great by the way.” Rhiannon looked down at the dress she was wearing. She’s wanted something business like but still elegant and this dress was one of her favourites.

“Thanks. You should always wear blue, it suits you.” Bodie glanced away from the traffic and smiled at her.

“Ta. More strictly social clothes. I ruin enough as it is – the good stuff only comes out for a special lady.” He winked at her. The suit was just basic black but beautifully cut with subtle gold buttons but it was the sapphire blue silk shirt underneath and dark blue tie showed off his gorgeous eyes in all their glory. Blue was definitely Bodie’s colour.

“Ah Mr. & Mrs. Bodie, do come in.” Mrs. Fieldrich smiled at them from the door to her office as she directed them to chairs on the other side of her desk. They could both feel themselves under scrutiny. “You do have the deposit I hope.” Mrs. Fieldrich got straight to the point. Bodie took the envelope out of his coat pocket and handed it across. Mrs. Fieldrich did not bother to check it. “Professor Harrington-Smyth has informed me that you’re looking to get a baby. How long have you been trying?” It was kindly enough said but Bodie did not like this woman. Rhiannon replied when he hesitated.

“Ever since we got married – I wanted children straight away. While we were young enough to enjoy them but without some outside help its not going to happen.” Rhiannon looked Mrs. Fieldrich straight in the eye. She also did not like the woman.

“Yes I can see from the notes that Professor Harrington-Smyth sent across you have a low sperm count Mr. Bodie. So unfortunate.” Bodie could feel himself squirming at that piece of information thanks Cowley he thought to himself.

“Isn’t that just a pit personal.” He grumbled.

“Oh were going to get a lot more personal that that Mr. Bodie, I can assure you.” Mrs. Fieldrich was taking notes so she missed the worried look that passed between the two of them. Just how personal both wondered?

“How often do you and your husband make love Mrs. Bodie?” Mrs. Fieldrich had a saccharine sweet smile plastered to her face when she asked that question.

“About 5 times a week.” Rhiannon boasted. Bodie tried to keep a straight face at that guess. God she’d kill me at that rate he thought.
“Are you quite sure! That’s an awful lot.” Mrs. Fieldrich looked very doubtful. Rhiannon leant over and took Bodie’s hand.

“As you can see Mrs. Fieldrich I have a very sexy husband and I can assure you there is nothing wrong with our sex life.”

“Nah nothing, except I’m firing blanks.” He tired to look pissed off about that. It would have been nice of Cowley to inform him of who they were blaming for their childless state.

“Of course you won’t mind that we obtain proof of your claims of 5 times a week. Not that I don’t believe you of course.” Bodie interrupted her at that point.

“Just what do you mean proof?” He did not like the sound of that.

“We want to get to know all of our prospective parents better. To make sure the kiddies are going to the best homes. Ones that can afford to give them the best with two wonderful loving parents. You do understand of course.” She was making Rhiannon’s stomach turn. She had no interest in the kiddies, only the money.

“What do we have to do to prove it to you?” Rhiannon questioned.

“We have an estate in the Cotswolds and all of our parents are required to attend for a two week stay. Well watch you together, with other people, we may bring out some of the babies to see how you handle them. Consider it a holiday before you get the baby.”

“And if we don’t?” Bodie wanted to know. This was not what they had agreed to.

“Then you may as well leave now and forget about getting a baby.” She told them directly. “But I’ll give you to tomorrow afternoon to decide.” She smiled. She reminded Bodie of a piranha with that smile.

“Very well. If we go through with this and you approve of us, when do we get our baby?” Rhiannon wanted to come across as the impatient young wife.

“As soon as you part with the one hundred thousand pounds we request you can have your choice. We have new babies available to us all the time. “ Mrs. Fieldrich was again filling out details in their file. I’ll just bet you do. Bodie thought sickly

“That’s a lot of money. What if we don’t have it?” He asked.

“Don’t play stupid with me Mr. Bodie.” Mrs. Fieldrich snapped. “We know you have the money, we’ve already done a full financial check on you and your wife is wearing Harvey Benzene diamonds if I’m not mistaken so I know you have a great deal of money. You will correct me if I’m wrong now wont you.” She demanded sarcastically. Bodie liked her even less.

“Yer, that’s right. So what.” He demanded.

“We know you have money Mr. Bodie. We have done a full background check on you both. With any luck you may have this baby by the time your fourth wedding anniversary comes along in nine weeks time.” Bodie wanted nothing more than to slap her. He’d never felt more repulsed by anyone.

“OK well do it. When do we have to leave?” Rhiannon announced while Bodie and Mrs. Fieldrich snapped at each other. Bodie stared at her shocked.

“We’re full up for the next week but we can take you in the intake after that. Say the First of April – hows that?” she again smiled that saccharine sweet smile that made both their stomachs turn.

“Fine. Is our lovemaking going to be filmed?” Bodie asked apprehensively.

“Yes.” Mrs. Fieldrich watched him closely for a reaction. It was exactly as she’d expected. He exploded.

“That’s filthy.” Bodie was pacing around the room furious. “What we do in our bedroom is private and personal and you’re not going to sully it with your bloody cameras.” Bodie was mightily pissed off now and he was not acting either.

“Well Mr. Bodie, those are the conditions. Either accept them or leave.” Rhiannon knew she had to quieten Bodie down fast.

“Please Darling, it’s OK really.”

“OK, how can you call this OK. Some filthy degenerates watching us making love its sick.” He shouted “And I don’t want any thing to do with it.” He was about to leave when he caught sight of Rhiannon’s tears. She looked so crestfallen. Mrs. Fieldrich also noticed the tears but said nothing.

“You promised me a baby and we still don’t have one and its all your fault and now you’re ruining it again.” She accused tearfully. Bodie felt like a real bastard now. He walked over and gathered her into his arms and let her cry.

“OK.” He accepted the conditions reluctantly. How the hell are we going to get out of this he wondered? Rhiannon dried her tears and they sat down again.

“Fine this is the address and well expect you there on first of April. Some time in the afternoon would be best. Good day.” They were shown the door.

“You’ve got to what!” Mr. Cowley was fuming. “It’s all turning into a fiasco.” Mr. Cowley was pacing the room agitated.

“I couldn’t see any way out of it Sir. It’s the only way you’re going to get these people and anyhow I’ve already agreed to it.” Rhiannon told him.

“You’ve what?” Cowley demanded incredulously. He turned on Bodie “And you let her agree to this madness?”

“Steady on Sir. Rhiannon said it before I had a chance to argue about it.” Bodie came to his own defence and so did Rhiannon.

“Bodie had no idea Sir and he did try to talk me out of it but I gave him a little dose of guilt and he gave in.”

“You call that a little dose jeez. I’d hate to be on the receiving end of a real guilt trip I can tell you.”

“Sorry but I had to think of something to get to you quieten down.” Cowley was watching this interaction with interest.

“What did you tell him to get Bodie guilty Rhiannon?” Mr. Cowley was curious.

“Just that he’d promised me a baby and it’s his fault that I didn’t have one.” Mr. Cowley actually winced at that.

“Yeah Sir, you could have at least warned me that I was to blame for us being there. I don’t think I like my reproductive capabilities discussed like I’m not there. Bloody bitch so unfortunate my arse, she didn’t give a damn except for the money.” Cowley smiled at that one.

“Sorry Bodie but it was easier to fabricate documents about you than for Rhiannon. Are you prepared to go through with this Rhiannon? It’s certainly not, what we asked you to do. I quite understand if you say no.” Cowley wanted Rhiannon to go through with it to close the case but it was a huge ask and he didn’t feel right doing it. Regardless to what some of the agents thought of him, he did have a conscience and it was nagging him greatly at the moment.

“Yes Sir, I said I would.” Rhiannon did not miss Bodie’s shocked expression. “You’ve tried to get them but have failed, this may be the only chance to stop these, these bastards.” She finished heatedly and Bodie nearly gagged on his tea. When would she stop doing things he didn’t expect?

“They claim that they’re going to be filming us together as well Sir.” Bodie was none too happy about that. “And I don’t like it at all. How the hell can we get away with that if they’re filming us?”

“Just do it then!” Rhiannon piped up and both Bodie and Cowley stared at her in astonishment. “Oh come on, Bodie don’t look at me like that. We were within half an hour of it a few nights ago so don’t be a prude now.” Cowley chuckled at that piece of information. Bodie could actually feel his face going beet red and he’d not blushed since he was a kid.

“Are you blushing Bodie?” Of course, bloody Cowley had to notice.

“No Sir.” he tired to get out of it, no such luck.

“Looks like it to me laddie, are you sure?” Bodie was not used to being teased by Cowley. Reprimanded, ordered around, pushed and yelled at yes, but not teased.

“Sir?” Bodie pleaded embarrassed. Cowley chuckled but let him off the hook.

“If you’re quite sure Rhiannon?” at her nod Cowley continued. “Very well then. Obviously, the interview went well even with Bodie’s temper getting the better of him. I know of this estate of course.” Mr. Cowley was glancing at the addressed they’d given him. It was a large palatial estate with enormous grounds but there was as much video equipment as they had told him getting his own surveillance would be very difficult.

“Betty, get me Doyle will you.” Cowley went back to studying the address.

Ten minutes Doyle wandered in to the office. He’d been finishing off reports and was glad of the respite.

“Change of plans Doyle. You’re going undercover as a butler.”

“Excuse me Sir?” Doyle was horrified but Bodie could not help grinning.

“Bodie and Rhiannon are being sent to this place.” Cowley passed the address to Doyle “for two weeks and you are going along as my spy. There is no way with the equipment that they will have there that Bodie will be able to report back via either phone or R/T so he’ll tell you and you can report back for him. These people are clever so keep it extremely low key hey lads. That will be all for now.”
