Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Rita excitedly pumped her fist in the air. "Yes! I've outdone myself this time." She danced maniacally on the lunar balcony. "Did you see that, Finster?"
"Er, yes my queen," he answered, watching her awkward jig.
"The test worked out perfectly. Tommy couldn't even lay a hand on my new Putties. They would've given him a good beating too if not for his dumb friends. We finally have the means to destroy the Green Ranger, and after they finish him, we'll move on to the rest. With this new force I'll be unstoppable!" cackled Rita.
"Yes," agreed Finster "and the Rangers haven't seen anything yet."

Ay yi yi! This is just terrible, thought Alpha. He scuttled about the control panels at the Command Center as he listened to Tommy and the others tell Zordon the details from the most recent attack at the park.
"They fought better than anything we've gone up against," said Tommy.
Zordon looked down at them from his glowing blue tube. "This is indeed disturbing news, Rangers. Rita's new Putties are formiddable, but I am fairly certain that this is only a part of a greater plan- as is usually the case with her."
"Have you ever seen anything like this before?" asked Jason.
"No, I have not. We do not yet fully know what we are up against. I can only tell you all to remain vigilant for the time being."
"I'm sure you all will get through this just like every other time," Alpha tried to reassure them.
Jason turned to his friends who were all looking pretty glum. "Lets head back to the juice bar for now, guys" he suggested. Everyone nodded in silent agreement as they activated their teleporters.
*********
Tommy hesitated outside the glass doors of the juice bar while Zack, Jason, Billy, and Trini headed inside.
"Aren't you coming with us?" asked Kimberly.
"No, I'm going to head on home. I just need to clear my head," said Tommy.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I'll call you later tonight."
Kimberly reluctantly watched him leave. She almost ran after him but stopped herself. He'd said he wanted to be alone, just not in so many words. She knew him well enough to know when he meant it, but she watched him until he was out of sight.
Tommy turned off the sidewalk into a small wooded area on his way home. He didn't even give it a second thought as he had taken this short cut countless times before. The towering oak and maple trees loomed ominously on either side as the well worn dirt path stretched into the distance. As he made his way further along, Tommy couldn't shake the feeling that he was being followed. It slowly gnawed at him, but he forced the thought to the back of his mind, chalking it up to what had happened earlier.
He inwardly breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the end of the trail just up ahead when he noticed something. The birds had ceased chirping their usually happy tunes, and everything had fallen eerily silent. Out of the corner of his eye he thought he saw something dart behind a tree.
"Who's there?" he shouted to no one in particular. Silence was his only answer. Tommy smiled to himself for being so paranoid. He had convinced himself that it was all just his imagination when the sound of a twig snapping behind him pierced the deafening silence. He quickly whirled around.
"Kimberly?!" he said, totally caught off guard. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, Tommy I was so worried." She ran up to him throwing her arms around his neck.
"Why, whats wrong?" he asked, a little confused. He hugged her back trying to ease her fears.
"I'm so glad I found you. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"Tommy hurry up and kiss me," she said. Actually it sounded more like a demand.
She started lean toward him.
He gently moved her back a little. "Wait. What the heck is going on? Why are you acting this way? I told you I was fine."
Kimberly's demeanor suddenly changed as she looked Tommy coldly in the eyes. "You won't be for long," she sneered. Before he could react she pulled him in, ramming her knee into his gut, causing him to stagger back in pain.
"No......" Tommy watched in horror as Kimberly's face and skin started turning gray. Her whole body slowly changed shape. After a couple of moments, what he had thought was his girlfriend transformed into a female puttie before his eyes.
Tommy held his smarting mid-section as he regained his breath. What the hell else were these things capable of, he wondered. There was a simultaneous rustling in the brush all around him as more female putties revealed themselves from behind trees, bushes, and rocks. Five in all. He was completely surrounded.
"This day just keeps getting better," he said through clenched teeth.
