Chapter 2
Christy looked into the bedroom and frowned. She knew it wasn't healthy for Christy to be sitting around the house and not doing nothing. It seemed like all she did was cried anymore. And that was only whenever she wasn't at work. She shook her head and turned to answer the phone that was ringing off the hook.
"Get it and go."
"Jamie. Is that how you always answer the phone?"
Jamie rolled her eyes and then glanced up at the clock. "Sure do. You all are the only ones who really call this late at night and plus caller id."
The man on the other end of the phone laughed. "Hey. By chance your Dad wouldn't be up would he?"
"Nope."
"Ah I see. Then why are you up so late then? Don't you work tomorrow?"
Jamie drew in a breath. "Yeah I work, But I am worried."
"About?"
She sighed again and new it was time to tell her uncle the truth. "Well where to start?"
"The beginning is a nice place."
"Well see uncle. You remember once I hit high school I met a nice girl?"
"Ah. I remember her. She is the one who paid your way through collage and then got you all the house you are living in now."
"Yeah. Well see. A few months ago her husband filed for divorce. Christy, that's her name, is torn up and depressed about the whole deal. Thing was he cheated on her for more than one reason but the main one was she wouldn't get pregnant. She was taking birth control before they even talked about getting married and she wanted to work first and get established. Well needless to say. He got another woman pregnant and now Christy is all alone. I mean besides us, she has no one. Her parent's disowned her whenever she got married and well they still won't talk to her now. It is like she is on auto pilot. She gets up, goes to work, comes home and that is it. She won't go out, she just sits in her room and cries. Mamma and Dadda are so worried but we can't really force her can we?"
Her uncle took a deep breath. " I remember when your Mamma married your Dadda. My mamma went crazy about it but she cooled off. I remember when we laid eyes on you for the first time, we knew he had made the right choice by wedding your mamma. And then the boys came along and it all came together as a family. I see now why my brother never asked for any money help. You all had Christy to help you. Jamie listen. I know you are worried about Christy but I am going to meet your Dadda for lunch one day and I want you to come along with him. There is something I need to discuss with him and well seeing that it concerns your friend Christy I want your input on the whole deal. From what you tell me she is indeed as close to perfect as she can be. I hope you will not think bad of me but this is how it must be. "
Jamie turned and seen her Dadda standing there. "He is up now. Here you go uncle. It was nice to talk to you and thank you for calming my nerves."
"Anytime Jammies..Anytime."
Jamie handed the phone off and then went into her room. She stopped while leaving the door opened a crack to listen.
"Hey there brother. What is up?"
"Clint. You remember whenever Mamma made out that stupid will?"
"Sure do why?"
"Well earlier tonight we were going over it and came across a problem. It is that clause that has had me thinking all day long. I worked everything over in my mind and I remember Mary had said something about you all staying with Christy. It was in the air and well she stuck in my mind. Well Jammie just told me what went on with her and I wish to take you and Jammie out for lunch in a few days. As soon as I can get away from here, I will fly down there and speak to you all."
Clint looked over and saw Jamie's eyes in the doorway. "Sure thing brother. Just call us whenever you get to the airport and I will come and get you."
They said their goodbye and hang up the phones. Jamie went to her bed confused as to what was going on but she knew her uncle would explain in due time. It must be serious for him to want to speak to her also. She bet it had something to do with her grandmother.
Later on in the week whenever the girls were at work, the phone rang and Clint answered. After a few short answers he walked into the den.
"Mary honey. Brother is at the airport and I am on my way to get him. We are going to go by work and pick Jamie up and go to lunch. If you would like to join I am sure he wouldn't mind. "
Mary nodded and they walked out the door.
Jamie looked up as her family came walking in the door. Clint said something to Mr. Moore and he nodded and then looked at Jamie. She got up out of her desk and walked out the door with them. Mr. Moore had purposely sent Christy out of the office to handle some clients on this day. Clint had called him earlier and explained that Christy needed to be gone for this to happen. He watched the four of them walk out and wondered silently what this had to do with her.
Mary and Jamie listened closely to what Clint's brother was saying. As they finished with lunch Mary smiled.
"You see now why this is so important. I have talked to the family and they agree that it would be best. If this does happen then we can work on getting you all out there back with the family. We can set up a meeting with Christy and then later a meeting between them. He is all for it but with the way her first marriage went I am not sure that it would be possible for her to trust again."
Jamie looked over at him and smirked. "You don't know Christy. Why don't you come over for dinner tonight and we can discuss it as a family."
He nodded his agreement and they made the arrangements. He would come over at around seven and they would eat and meet with her then. As Jamie made her way back into work and settled into her desk, Christy walked back through the front doors. She smiled at Jamie and made her way to Mr. Moore's office with her reports. Jamie let out a sigh of relief as she realized just how close they came to not making it back in time.
When the girl's started to leave work Jamie wrapped her arms around Christy. "Hey the brother's are all going to be at the table tonight. We are having a guest. Mamma is making her famous Pot Roast and we are eating as a family."
Christy nodded and smiled. It would be nice to have an actual dinner. With everyone's schedule it was hard to find time to do it. The girl's soon pulled in the driveway and walked in the door.
Mary yelled out from the kitchen that they had fifteen minutes before dinner and they needed to hurry. They ran upstairs to change and was back downstairs with time to spare.
