Chapter 2
(Six weeks later)
Grissom sat in his new office going through his files. He was on his own since the assistants the department set him up with and his secretary would never learn his system soon enough to help him pull his lecture together. He found the old file and turned back to his desk. Looking around the room he had to smile. This office had a much more open feel to it than his office at CSI did. There were no crazy experiments lying around, no blood in his refrigerator and no grotesque looking jars on shelves. He had brought his fetal pig in a jar with him, only because it was an interesting piece and came in handy for lectures. But this office had something the other one lacked: part of himself.
On a shelf behind the desk he had his photos of Wrigley field and a few baseball collectible items. On his desk was his computer, his phone, and a photo of his team from CSI at his wedding reception. Beside his computer monitor was a crystal frame that held two wedding photos: one of himself and Sara, and one with the two of them with his mother. If someone had told him six months ago that he would be teaching forensic science at UNLV and be married to Sara, he’d have sent them to have their head examined. It was close to the end of the semester so he was finishing his colleague’s lesson plan, but next fall he’d have his own classes to teach.
Sara had been thrilled when he took the job at the university. She knew with his investments he really didn’t need to work, but even with the crime lab calling him in for consultations he was getting bored. Teaching gave him something to do, he enjoyed it, and he was good at it. The semester would be over in a couple of weeks, and then the two of them were taking two weeks off to do their big move. They had closed on a large house with a pool and a nice yard. It had been on the market a couple of times, but no one had bought it. Somehow the fact that the former chief of detectives had been murdered in that house deterred buyers, but not the Grissoms. Sara just hoped her current case didn’t interrupt their plans.
The entire night crew was working a serial case that had them stumped. Three male college professors had disappeared with no signs of them. There were no ransom demands, no bodies, no blood, and very little trace evidence. Background checks on all three had turned up nothing to link them other than their profession. The first victim was an English professor at UNLV, the second taught Early Childhood Development at the community college, and the third taught Accounting at UNLV. They had nothing real to go on, but based on the first three victims security heightened on both campuses.
Grissom looked up to one of the students coming into his office. He recognized her as Kelly Barton, a second year student from one of the forensics classes. She was tall, blonde, and had an air of confidence about her that kind of reminded him of Catherine.
“Dr. Grissom can I talk to you?”
He leaned back in his chair closing the file he had been reading. “Sure Miss Barton. What’s on your mind?”
“Your class really. I don’t understand it because I was doing so well when Dr. Bader was teaching it. Why am I doing so poorly now?”
“Well from your paper, I’d say you don’t have an adequate grasp of the material. There is still time before the final. If you want I can set up some time with Brian and he can help you out.”
There was something about Kelly that made Grissom uneasy, and then he figured it out. She was eyeing him like Sofia had one night, like he was a five-course meal and she was starving. Kelly practically licked her lips as she looked at him. His salt and pepper curls just begged to have a woman’s fingers run through them, those luscious lips that she imagined could do wonders to a woman’s body, his arms looked so strong and she wondered what he looked like without that polo shirt. He wore a ring, but that didn’t faze her. She noticed the photos by his computer and thought he must be a sweet man to have photos of his wife and daughter in his office. The older woman in the photos was no competition in her mind.
“Actually Dr. Grissom I was hoping that maybe you could help me. I mean you know the material better than anyone and I could really use the help.”
“I would love to Miss Barton, but I really don’t have the time in my schedule to do it. That’s why Brian and Chris are here.”
Grissom’s phone rang and he saw on the caller id it was Nick’s cell phone. He took the call as his assistant Brian came in to deliver some materials he had asked for. Brian smiled and Kelly and leaned in close so Grissom couldn’t hear him.
“Give it up girl. He’s married and terribly in love with his wife.” Kelly scoffed “That old hag? Oh please like I can’t get him from her.” Brian chuckled. “Who do you think those are pictures of?”
Kelly looked at him puzzled, “His wife and daughter.” Brian smiled. “Sweetie you are so outgunned it’s not funny. The woman you obviously think is his wife is his mother. The brunette is his wife.”
Kelly was getting over her shock when she heard Grissom ending his phone call.
“…Just make sure you put food in with the specimens and document the time you collected them. Send them over as quick as possible and I’ll get the regression started.”
Grissom hung up and hit the button to connect to his secretary. “Hey Jane. The crime lab is going to be sending over some specimens for me. Let me know as soon as they get here. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, this stuff is time sensitive. Ok, thanks Jane.”
“Brian, Miss Barton here was just asking me about some tutoring before the final. Do you have time to meet with her, or should I check with Chris?”
“Oh I have the time Dr. Grissom. When would be a good time Kelly?”
Kelly looked disappointed and glanced at Brian. “I’ll have to get back to you. I have a couple of things to take care of before I can make plans.”
Grissom’s phone rang again and he groaned, until he saw the caller ID and Sara’s cell phone number. “Perfect timing honey. Now let’s see if this girl can get the message.” He hit the button for the speakerphone and leaned back so Sara could hear the chair creak. “Hi honey. What’s up?”
Sara smiled when she realized he turned on the speakerphone. “Ok either he wants rid of someone or he’s really busy.” “Not much. I’m just heading home after an almost double so I’m calling to see when you think you’ll be home tonight.”
“I’m not sure. Nicky is sending over some bugs from a scene for me to do a regression on, so I’ll probably be late.”
“Ok. I’m heading over to the house. I’ll get a little sleep and start working on those rooms we want redone. When you’re finished there, pick up something for dinner and meet me there.”
“Anything special you want?”
“Other than my husband home soon? No. Whatever you’re in the mood for is fine.” She heard a female’s voice on the other end almost in a whisper with a second male voice. “Oh yeah something’s going on there.” She had to smile. “So sweetie, what’s with the speakerphone? Did I catch you at a bad time?”
“No not really. I’m just taking care of a few things for a lecture and a small situation here.”
She laughed. “A situation? Is someone doing a Sidle?”
Grissom laughed, “Yeah I think so, but I think it’s been handled.”
“Good. I’ll see you at home, Gil. Love you.”
“I love you too honey. Now get some sleep.”
When Grissom looked up after ending his call Kelly was gone and Brian was grinning. “Now would you like to fill me in on what’s going on?”
Brain couldn’t contain his laughter anymore. “Oh my that girl had it coming. She had an arrangement of sorts with Dr. Bader, which is why she was passing his class. The little tramp is so full of herself that she thought she could get the same type of arrangement with you. She didn’t count on you actually being in love with your wife, or the fact that you’re wife is a real doll. Sexy voice too.” Brain caught the look Grissom was giving him and rolled his eyes. “Oh please. Lose the testosterone, he-man. I’d be far more interested in you than in your wife.”
Grissom closed his eyes and shook his head. “Brian somehow that’s not much of a comfort. Do you think Miss Barton will be a problem?”
“After that call from your wife? I don’t think so. She’ll probably take her less than glowing grade and never take one of your classes again if she can help it. By the way, what is ‘doing a Sidle’?”
Grissom reopened his files. “Years ago I had a student named Sidle at one of my seminars who found herself attracted to me. She took every seminar I gave and wanted to meet afterwards. The catch was I was attracted to her too. So I didn’t discourage her. It went on for years.”
Brian was completely intrigued. “So what happened?” Grissom smiled. “Well at some point she fell in love with me. I fought her on it, broke her heart more than once, then I finally did the only thing I could do. I married her.”
Two hours later Grissom had called Nick with the bad news that the bugs had been stunted so they weren’t any help, then he left his office to head home to Sara. He found her in the dining room eating an apple and making notes on the walls with a pencil.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to write on walls?”
Sara smiled over her shoulder at him and went back to her notes. “I’m sure it was the same person who told me not to fall in love with my boss, and look how well I listened to that.”
He smiled and sat his briefcase down by the wall. “So what are you doing up? I thought you were going to get some sleep.”
Sara put her pencil down and threw the apple into a trash bin as she walked over to her husband and put her arms around his neck. “I couldn’t sleep. Want to help me with that?”
“And just how do you propose I do that?”
Sara smiled as she started pulling his shirt out of his pants. “I don’t know. Maybe wear me out for a while?”
Grissom pulled her to him and kissed her as she started walking them toward the couch in the living room. They had already moved Sara’s furniture from her apartment over to the house right after they closed on the house. By the time they reached the couch she already had his shirt off and was working on his belt. He looked at her with a smirk.
“Don’t you even say it. Yes I’m in a hurry. We’ve barely seen each other all week and I want you now. I’m so exhausted I can’t sleep and horny as hell.”
He attacked her neck as he removed her shirt, kissing and nipping down to her breasts and back up to her throat. It didn’t take him long to have her out of her jeans and slip two fingers inside her. He had always found Sara to be a responsive lover, and this time she was more responsive than usual. Her pants and moans were setting his passion on fire, and her grinding against his hand had him almost to the breaking point. He wondered how he would ever control himself enough not to hurt her when he heard her.
“Gil…yes…I want you….oh God I want you now…oh…..Gil fuck me.”
Grissom stopped and looked into her eyes. “Sweetheart..” Her brown eyes burned with a fire he hadn’t seen before. “Don’t talk. Just fuck me. Now. I want you, and I want you deep and hard.” She nuzzled his neck as she sat on the arm of the couch. “Come on baby. Fuck me hard. Make me come screaming your name.”
“Sara what has gotten into you?”
“Nothing. But you can fix that now can’t you?” She looked up and saw the blank expression and sighed. “I’m sorry. Obviously you think this is a bad idea.”
He reached out and stroked her hair. “Why honey? What’s this all about?”
“Gil every time we make love you are so sweet and tender with me, and don’t get me wrong it’s fantastic. But I know you, and I know you are an intensely passionate man. I just wanted to get you to let loose, lose control for a while, just feel. I won’t break.”
Sara stood up and started to walk away but he grabbed her and spun her around to face him, pinning her arms at her sides. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t give you what you wanted.” A playful smirk spread across her face as he sat her back on the arm of the couch and pushed her backwards. He watched her smirk morph into a full smile as he parted her thighs with his knee and leaned forward to kiss her neck as he slid two fingers back inside her. “Now what was it you wanted again?”
He knew while kissing her sensitive neck and his thumb rubbing her clit she could barely think let alone speak. She ran her fingers through his hair. “You. I want you.” Grissom looked into her eyes and grinned knowing he was looking at a woman out of control. “Tell me. What do you want?”
“Fuck me. Fuck me hard. Make me scream. Make me come. God Gil, shove that big cock into me so far you split me open.”
He grinned and stood up. “That’s what I thought you wanted.” He pulled her forward so her head was still on the couch and her ass was just on the edge of the arm, pulling her panties to the side and shoving into her hard. He watched her face as he pounded into her looking for any signs he was hurting her, but all he saw was pure bliss. Gil continued to pound into her as she wrapped her legs around him pulling him ever closer to her. His legs were cramping with his own climax imminent when Sara’s walls clenched around him and she wailed in the most powerful orgasm of her existence. Grissom’s vision began to darken as his own orgasm ripped through him and he collapsed forward, catching himself on the back of the couch before he fell onto Sara.
She lay panting trying to catch her breath and recover from the powerful orgasm with tears in her eyes. Grissom’s clouded head cleared as soon as he saw her tears and he moved to kneel beside her. “Honey I’m sorry. I got carried away. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Sara cupped his cheek and smiled. “You didn’t hurt me. It was just really intense.”
“You’re sure I didn’t hurt you?”
She laughed. “I’m sure. Although I’ll probably be sore tomorrow, but oh my God was it worth it.”
He took her into his arms and kissed her. “Come on let’s get you up to bed. You need your rest.”
They went up the stairs and into what was to be a guest room where Sara’s bed was set up and slid under the cool sheets. She curled up on her side and he wrapped his arms around her. “What time tomorrow is the banquet at the university?”
“Not until 7 pm. Are you sure you want to go? I mean this case is pretty big.”
“Nope I’m off so I can go. Sophia is back from her leave and Danny just passed his proficiency, so they’re not shorthanded or anything.”
Grissom smiled as he felt Sara drift off to sleep. Tomorrow they would go shopping for new furniture for their home, and then he would have the chance to show off his new wife at the university. Unlike many of the professors, Sara was no trophy wife whose only job was to look good. Sara had the perfect combination of beauty, brains, and independence that made Grissom feel like the luckiest man in the world. He didn’t know what he ever did to deserve her, but he thanked his lucky stars for every day she was in his arms.
Grissom sat in his new office going through his files.
