Chapter Two


By the time she got up the stairs she'd calmed down a bit and was ready to do some research, but as usual there was another interruption.
At least this time it was relatively good one, Leo orbed in with some information, "Hi Honey. Where's Phoebe and Paige? This actually concerns them directly."


"Oh they went out to take care of a few things." Piper always looked away from Leo when she had to cover for her sister's new found relationship, "What did you find out?"
"It seems Cole has been a whole lot busier than we first thought. There are numerous reports of him calling on all demons to join him in his quest to take the charmed ones down. What makes this even worse is that he's not even trying to hide what he's doing. It's like he's daring us to stop him."


Piper was flipping through the Book of Shadows while listening to Leo, "Oh he's always had a huge ego. He thinks he will win. He'll think that until he's stopped for good. Once he is then we call rest a little easier."
"Well I wish it were that simple." Leo said solemnly, "Cole may not be our biggest problem right now. He's brought in some very dangerous demons and they are not working alone like they normally do. So instead of worrying about one demon at a time we may be dealing with a large group working together in unison to kill you three."


"Your right. This will be a big challenge for us. I'm not afraid and I know that Phoebe and Paige will be up for the challenge as well. We'll just have to be more aware of everyone around us." Piper responded, still not taking her eyes of the book.
Leo walked over and stood beside Piper, "That's an understatement. As I said there seems to be some kind of talk going on that Phoebe and Paige are specific targets right now. But, not for death. We haven't been able to determine what Cole wants with those two but whatever it is we can assume it's not good."


Piper didn't seem to pay attention to what Leo was saying and instead let out a loud, "Yes!. I found it."
"Found what?"
"A spell to protect the hourom rom Cole orbing in and out at will. Not to mention any other demons from catching us off guard all the time. " Piper was glowing and looked at Leo who smiled at her and gave her a hug.


"That's great. Do you need the other two for this or can you do the spell on your own?" Leo asked as he studied the spell in front of him.
"I can do this one on my own. I don't think those two will be available for a couple hours anyway." Piper sneered, making yet another vague reference to Paige and Phoebe.


Leo had heard more than enough little hints and digs at those two in the past few months and wanted to find out what it was all about, "Okay what's going on with those two? Is there something your not telling me?"
Piper walked away from Leo and looked out the attic window, "I can't get into that right now. It's something they need to talk to you about."


"Come on Piper, I need a little more than that t on. on. I've seen this tension between you and those two for awhile. Not angry tension just a sense of disapproving is what I'd call it. Have they been abusing their powers? Neglecting things around the house?"
"It's nothing like that. I love those two and that will never change. It's just something that's very, very hard to get used to. I may never get used to it, but I have to." she turned to Leo and put her arms around his neck and gave him a hug, "Do me a favor though, if you do ask them about this take the time to listen to them and try not to over react."


Leo pulled back from Piper with an even more confused look on his face, "Now I'm starting to get very curious about all this."
Piper smiled and walked back to the Book of Shadows and began to study the spell more closely.


Cole was sitting in a meeting with about 20 other demon when he called it to order with a huge fireball that scorched the ceiling, "Now that I have everyone's attention I'd like to begin. First order of business is to organize the capture and or killing of Piper Halliwell, Paige Mathews and that annoying white lighter of Leo. A large two headed demon stood up, "I have one. Can we eat the others after we kill them? It's a tradition for my race."
"Eat them, fillet them, boil them, fry them, BBQ them into little tasty snack treats, I don't care. As long as they're dead." Cole then looked around the room, "Anything else?"


Another rather odd looking demon with a sharp pointy spiked running down it's spine and the biggest set of ears in the room stood up, "I have another small question about the details of the killing. Is it okay to save the corpses as trophies? I prefer keeping them in storage for when I have the house parties and such. They make great conversation pieces."


Cole was trying to remain calm in the face of such absurd questions, "Let me try and clear this up for everyone. Dead means dead. Once they are dead I no longer care what you do to them. Are there any other questions that don't deal with this subject?"
Once again a rather furry type demon with flowing red eyes and a round shaped form kind of rolled towards Cole, "My question is what is the ultimate reward for all this?"


"I thought that was clear." Cole said with an ever growing annoyance in his voice, "Whoever takes care of one of these tasks, with proof of killing will stand beside me as we take over the entire world."
The furry demon rolled closer, "That's fine then. It's a big world I think there's more than enough to share. I'm in."


"Good. Now, if that's everything I suggest you all get to work. I would like this taken care of in less than a week. I've got plans for Phoebe that are on a slightly fixed schedule." Cole then ushered everyone out the door and sat back down at his desk with his feet up.
He grabbed his phone and placed a call and waited for an answer, "Hello, Detective Morris here."


"Hey there Darryl. Cole here. I've got some bad news for ya. It appears the Halliwell family has a bounty on their heads. Just thought I'd let you know."
"I don't know what your game is but I know your back on the wrong side again so if you think I'm gonna believe anything you say, think again. Now I have real work to do." Darryl said then was about to hang up the phone.


"Wait one second." Cole said with a cocky tone, "You might want to check out room 156 on Edgemont Drive, it's the Lover's Haven motel. I'm afraid someone's in danger there and you have a chance to stop it. One chance. Then they are free game."
"Why?"
"You have the information. What you do with it is up to you. But, if you don't get there in time two of your friends will be killed." Cole then up up and sat smiling at his desk.
Meanwhile Darryl grabbed his coat and headed to his car to check out Cole's story.


Back at the motel Phoebe and Paige were lying on the bed having a glass of whine. Paige comforted Phoebe and began thinking of what Cole left her and wondered if all this was connected in some way, "I think we need to make Cole a priority right now. He has the edge at the moment because he can be anywhere he wants and we need to start beating him at his game."


"Okay then, you two be careful. If Cole knew you were then he could just as easily have killed you both." Darryl then got a call for another crime being reported down the block and took off.
Phoebe and Paige put what was left of the door up and sat back down on the bed.
"I guess we better get home then. I hate to end our night like this. I want so bad to continue from where we left off." Phoebe said as she ran her fingers through Paige's hair.


Paige took Phoebe's arm and kissed it softly, "I would love to continue this to, but we will have so much time for this once we get Cole out of our lives for good.. We need to get home and help Piper with that spell and start spending all our energy into stopping Cole from hurting any of us ever again."

Piper was trying to get the spell to work but was having trouble finding out how to test it. Leo was able to orb in and out at will, but the spell was very specific it was to keep evil out so he didn't apply.
"I have an idea. I think we have some double agents who are evil but work with us from time to time and I will see if one of them will try to get into the house. If so, then we can work on the spell some more." Leo didn't really wait for Piper to agree or disagree but instead just orbed out to do this thing.


"Bye to you to." Piper said to the air then looked at the spell again and tried to see if she missed something or not.
Piper then remembered the package Cole said he left in her room and she decided now was as good a time as any to look at it so she made her way to her room and looked around for some type of package.


As she was about to check her dresser, she noticed a box on the floor with her name on it and picked it up.
It was a fair size box. Bigger than a coffee maker box, but not as big as a microwave. Inside she found a letter sitting on the top of another box and picked it up and began to read it.


Hello Piper.


I'm glad you chose to open the package I sent you. Inside you will find some information about Phoebe and Paige that you may not want to know about. I'm sure you don't want to read anything bad about either of them and if that's case you should destroy this box and it's contents now.
If you do you will be missing one piece of information that is way more important than either Phoebe or Paige's past indiscretions.


Each box can only be opened if you read the letter provided and do exactly what your told. Any deviation from this will result in that final piece of information being destroyed and you will never know the real truth about your mother.

At the end of the warrant was a brief note from Cole.
