The Announcement
At first, I didn't believe that I was reading it correctly. My hand was shaking as I held up the "official winner" letter that Renaissance Pictures had sent via courier.
I remember entering this contest. The first time they ran the promo afa Xea Xena episode, I went to the web site and entered my information. I never actually thought I would win anything. I figured I would just receive a monthly email informing me of new promotions or something to get me to keep returning to their site. Or, if I was accidentally lucky enough, I might win one of the 1000 fifth place prizes of a lovely 'one-sided' ion ton tee shirt - whoa!
But I liked Xena well enough, and decided to sign up for it regardless of the guarantee that unsolicited email was to follow. Besides, I was fantasizing that I had already won the grand prize and had been flown off to New Zealand to film a scene with the reast ost of Xena, with Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor, and that babe, Kevin Smith! Boy, do I ever dig thy hey he plays Ares! Oh, yeah! That guy is a hottie! Of course, he would take one look at me and would just have to have me. You know, fall madly in love with me and follow me back to the States.
HA! Yeah, right. In your dreams, Ginger. Oh well! The thoughts were entertaining while they lasted.
But here I was, seven months later, standing in my living room. At the time, I only knew three words and I keep saying, no shouting them over and over again.
"OH! MY! GOD! - OH MY GOD! - OH MY GOD!"
All three of my cats scattered from the room to take cover, probably thinking that the sky was falling or some other life-threatening situation was about to occur. Nope, it was just me, in an absolute state of joyful shock, as I read letter aloud.

I just couldn’t believe it. At first I thought one of my friends was playing a joke, but how would they know I entered the contest? I hadn’t mentioned it to anyone. As a matter of fact, I had forgotten I even entered. And the letter did come by courier. None of my friends would go to those extents just to play a trick on me. It had to be real!
I screamed again as I fell onto my couch, lost in a wonderfully vivid daydream. Ah, Kevin Smith. I get to see Kevin Smith. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! Aaahhhh! My mind was reeling.
